This series was very good all four seasons. The only thing it suffered is not having a big-budget and if it had a big budget the effects would probably been way better. For what they had they did a good job

I'm not afraid to say this was the best Superman liveaction production until the movies in the new 10s. The leads were competent and the villains (Luthor, Metallo) pretty charismatic. There were a lot of awesome episodes: the one where Super "dies" and hallucinates about his identity, the one where he travels to meet Superboys from other realities, Metallo's trial, when he becomes evil and helps Metallo, when he meets his kryptonian fake parents, and many more... Man, those were the days...
Superboy definitely captured the feel of the Christopher Reeve Superman films since the father-and-son Alexander and Ilya Salkind - the producers of the first 3 Superman films - were behind it.
I did some fan edits on my channel sticking Gerard into the CW Multi-verse trailers. Not that great, I don't have the best programs, but I was just having a little fun with it.

@@reactorleak7432 From what I know, WB wanted to distance itself as much as possible from Superboy the series. I really enjoyed this show back when it was new. I never missed an episode. With that being said, I actually really liked the way John Newton portrayed Clark and Superboy. He definitely played the character with more of a bad-boy persona which I thought was super fun. Now don’t get me wrong, I also really liked Gerard Christopher’s portrayal of Clark and Superboy in the later seasons. When Gerard first took over for Newton, he played Clark way too nerdy to the point where he was almost Screech Powers from Saved by the Bell. Luckily he only acted like that for one season and then his version of Clark evened out, thank god. I also want to point out that Gerard Christopher got progressively more buff as the seasons progressed. By the last season he was extremely well built and truly looked like Superman was riped right out of the pages of a comic book. Gerard’s acting also greatly improved with each season. I totally think the show could’ve gone on longer but the studio execs wanted to make a Superman show that focused on Lois and Clark’s relationship. That’s the real reason why Superboy was canceled. They wanted to make the Adventures of Lois and Clark. But I have to thank the person who put this little compilation together. It’s always great seeing all of Clark’s transformation scenes into Superboy.
My friend you have written literally the same thing i wrote to a reply here. Exactly how i felt about John Newton then Gerards portrayal got better as seasons progressed.
I preferred John Newton also. I think the "Nerdy" clark was to try to tie in more with the movies and it was a decision more of the directors and script than the actor. The issue with it attempting to tie into the movie is that we don't know when in the movie Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent decided to be a "fumbling nerd". It was sometime after he left the fortress of solitude, and entered the adult world. This series already doesn't really follow that timeline as we never saw Clark in the movie go to college, unless we're assuming he did so in the timeframe between leaving the fortress of Solitude and the time he started working at the Planet. During that timeframe, anything could have happened.
I really Liked John Newton as Clark Kent/Superboy. He played the character of Clark with a lot more confidence than Gerard Christopher. There was almost a bit of a Bad-boy streak in his performance which I thought was a welcomed change to how Clark was typically portrayed as. My only real complaint was the fact that the hair and makeup people parted his hair incorrectly. His hair was parted to the left as Clark and to the right as Superboy which is wrong. Super boy’s hair should be parted to the left and Clark’s should be parted to the right. The reason being, if his hair is parted to the right as Superboy then the S-Curl is backwards. That’s the whole reason as to why they always parted Superman’s hair to the left and this was especially true during the Christopher Reeve Superman movies.
Partly because the rights were tied up for years between WB and Viacom, and also partly because WB wanted *Lois & Clark* to be the official Superman franchise during the '90s. It took a long time for this show to finally resurface.
Awesome, I used to watch a lot of Superman and Superboy series, Superman was in black and white at the time with Steve Reeves. I remember watching Superboy with my kids when I first watched it. Lois and Clark was next. Love them all…❤️😊
Excellent series about Superboy. For me, the work that Gerard Christopher did was more remarkable than that of John Haymes Newton in the first season. Well, it was very similar to Christopher Reeve's performance. For many, including me, the best Superman in history. Also noteworthy is the presence of Stacy Haiduk as Lana Lang.

I think there was some copyright reason they couldn't call him Superman. I always thought Gerard Christofer was perfect for the part. He almost landed the role on Lois and Clark as well, but lost out to Dean Cain.
The film/TV rights to Superman were split at the time between WB, Cannon Films, and the Salkinds, which is why they did *Superboy* with a college-age Clark Kent. When WB got the rights to Superman back in full, *Superboy* was cancelled, as was the Salkinds' original pitch for *Superman Returns* (which would have been written by Cary Bates and Mark Jones, both comic book and *Superboy* regulars.) Simply put, WB was done with the Salkinds, which is why nothing of theirs was carried over into future projects. It should also be mentioned that *Lois & Clark* originated as a 1989 proposal from DC Comics itself called *Lois Lane's Daily Planet.* And apparently the show that emerged was a substantial reworking of DC's original pitch, with WB and ABC both pushing for an 8pm time slot and a much bigger onscreen presence for Superman than what was originally planned.

It always amazes me that this show that looks like it had a budget of $5.00 managed to get the suit so right, while other, big budget shows/movies somehow blow it.
Henry Cavill's Supersuits are absolutely gorgeous, and Brandon Routh's costume (which is a really nice retro-inspired design) is actually very rich and colorful when you see it in natural light instead of the weird sepia tone lighting *Superman Returns* employed. It's Dean Cain's Supersuit that looks like total garbage compared to the *Superboy* costumes, especially since it came literally a year later. They made that poor guy look like a cheap cosplayer when his Superman costume should have been the next step forward from the Salkind era.
The suit was basically a repro of Reeve's movie suit. They made alterations later on for Gerard Christopher. If you notice in some of the later episodes, the 'S' on his chest is bigger, and his cape has a kind of layered look on the shoulders based on the then current "Man of Steel" comic design by artist John Byrne.
@@maximusprime3459 Both Newton and Christopher are wearing the S-shields used for the official Superman merchandise. They aren't wearing customized emblems like the other Superman actors, which does separate their suits a little from Reeve's.
you can definitely see in seasons 3 and 4 where the producers and directors of Lois and Clark get their ideas from... even Lana's hair in the last scene of this video mimics that of Teri Hatcher's first hairstyle in Lois and Clark
In some ways this show was prequel to adventures of Superman or Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman since Lana Lang was he’s love like in smallville before Lois Lane
It's a strange story depending on who you ask and/or believe. John apparently wanted more money as he was doing many of the dangerous stunts/wire work himself on the show and the Salkinds wouldn't budge. There was the story of John getting tickets for parking violations as well but that's complete BS. I preferred John in the part versus Gerard. Gerard played Clark way too nerdy like and he even had a borderline lisp which bugged the hell out of me.
@@alucard624 In his first season Gerard was trying to mimic Reeve's bumbling nerdy Clark from the films. From Season Three onward he dialed the nerd factor down and settled into a more natural performance. His Clark could still be awkward and nerdy but it wasn't on the same level as before. As for John-Haymes Newton he may have looked more like a young Chris Reeve than Christopher but he seemed more comfortable when he was playing Clark than he did when he was Superboy. When I rewatched his season there are subtle little clues that he seemed to really not like wearing that costume. Christopher was a self professed Superman aficionado who loved playing both roles equally.
Graphics was sorry but he reminded me of what christopher reeve playing superman would have been like at that age but blows my mind that the movie had better graphics but older
You're comparing big-budget movies to a syndicated TV show. There's going to be drop in production values based on that alone. Even *Star Trek: The Next Generation* looks cheap at times for that same reason.
The difference between John Newton and Gerard Christopher was John kinda played it campy. Where Gerard definitely played it like he was a younger version of Christopher Reeve Superman
Gerard Christopher was a better Superboy (they're all too old for 'boy', really), but John Haymes-Newton was a more interesting version of Clark Kent, though it is hard to tell if this is a difference in acting style, or a change in directing and writing.
Newton's Clark on a skateboard is one of my fav changes into a Superboy or Superman, so damn cool!

I worked as a sound engineer on this season
An overlooked and underrated series.
Gerard's Superboy looks like Ted Mosby in a Superman Costume and since I cant unsee it, neither can you now.
So Clark can't undo his buttons at super speed and save some shirts?
34:31 Lois remind me of The Home Alone mother all she missing is saying KEVIN.
How many shirts have the buttons broken?
So, Lois and Clark adopted the spinning into the suit from this series!
I remember when John Haymes Newton changed into Gerard Christopher.
Everytime Superman enters the scene, that trumpet is getting to be too much
you can definitely see in seasons 3 and 4 where the producers and directors of Lois and Clark get their ideas from... even Lana's hair in the last scene of this video mimics that of Teri Hatcher's first hairstyle in Lois and Clark
In some ways this show was prequel to adventures of Superman or Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman since Lana Lang was he’s love like in smallville before Lois Lane
He wears button ups and khakis, has a 5 o’clock shadow. They still call him “SuperBOY”
John Newton was so gorgeous!
Adoro a primeira temporada 1😊😀💓💓💓💓💓💓💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗😙😃😃😃😃😃
I don't understand why they change John Haymes Newton to Gerard Christopher when the season 2 of Superboy was released
That was a Warner Brothers budget (Superman) vs. Viacom (Superboy). Can't expect too much.
You're comparing big-budget movies to a syndicated TV show. There's going to be drop in production values based on that alone. Even *Star Trek: The Next Generation* looks cheap at times for that same reason.
I love the music to this show
I like John Newton as superboy I hated when they changed the actor
The difference between John Newton and Gerard Christopher was John kinda played it campy. Where Gerard definitely played it like he was a younger version of Christopher Reeve Superman
Enak bnget mase Superboy sekarang jadi Superman tiba2 ada di beranda
Gerard Christopher was a better Superboy (they're all too old for 'boy', really), but John Haymes-Newton was a more interesting version of Clark Kent, though it is hard to tell if this is a difference in acting style, or a change in directing and writing.
I liked how John's Clark was an unassuming, average guy and not an over-the-top nerd but Gerard definitely pulled off a better Superboy.
This was ck in high school years and ck and also as the boy of steel
I love his hair😢
15:12 Look like an evil version of the DeLorean car from Back to the Future.
🎵🎵🎵John Williams Superman march🎵🎵🎵

WPWR Channel 50 Chicago, *every* weekend after "My Secret Identity" and "Out of This World".
Same same, except WPIX in New York.
@Your World Correct. The Fox rerun cycle was the last time it was on television. Shame too.
Great for them, there were no CCTV cameras around them at that time...
