    When I was in 3rd Grade, I loved watching Gunsmoke. It was past my bedtime, so before the show was over, I had to go to bed. I had an FM radio that picked up the TV Show. So, I listened to the TV Gunsmoke show until it was over. I don't know if my parents knew if I was cheating, but they never stopped me from listening.

    It was still Bosticks' fault. Running Did make him look guilty. There were no other viable suspects. If he had stayed it would have only meant inconvenience. Yes, Dillon could have waited, but Bostick made it clear he was leaving. It's all on him.

      @ Howard Oller. There must be a reason Matt kept him. I don't think charity. I'm glad the writers did. Offers another side and causes commentators half a century+ to wonder. Hahaha 😉

      @@stuckinmygarage6220 I didn't mean to imply Chester was without merit, as he did have some obvious good qualities. I was just making a humorous observation about his occasional ineptitude.

    Plot hole: If Bostic were the perpetrator, Haney could have identified him by name. They obviously knew each other.

    • @vincentsartain3061
      @vincentsartain3061 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Remember when the dying Haney sent word to Matt that he had something else to say, but when Matt came to him, he had already succumbed to his head injuries? Haney had come to several times before, but was sketchy on the information he was able to give to Matt. But that last time he'd regained consciousness might have been when he remembered the name of his killer, which unfortunately he was unable to relay to Matt because he died before Matt could be there.
      Still, Sam Noonan was sitting up with Haney, so why couldn't Haney have told Sam who it was that had pistol whipped and mortally wounded him?

      @@vincentsartain3061 Good point. Wouldn't it be nice to have 20/20 hindsight sometimes?🙂

    So, if Bostick wasn't the perpetrator, who else was "tall with red hair?" If Bostick was innocent, and the real killer wasn't caught, then it's the second "unsolved crime" of the episodes I've heard thus far.

    No matter how dumb they made Chester on radio, he was still way better then that useless goof Dennis Weaver..At least Parley Baers version of chester was a good tracker and actually able to back Matt up now and then..and I personally think he's funny as hell. Wish they would have brought him over to the T.V. show.

    • @TowGunner

      For the first batch of episodes, Chester (radio) was actually dependable and Parley Baer wasn’t sounding like Deputy Droop-A-Long. In one episode, Dillon introduced him as his deputy. Then Baer went into full-hick mode and Chester became almost unlistenable except for a few episodes.

      I find it interesting that both Parley Baer and William Conrad (John William Cann) were both officers with the rank of captain in the US Army during WWII!!

    I’ve listened to and enjoyed so many of these Gunsmoke episodes with William Conrad as Matt Dillon. They bring back great memories of listening to them way back when. I think the writers really pushed the envelope with this episode, however. I found it quite disagreeable and way out of character with Matt’s otherwise rational disposition, even when he’s in a “bad mood.” Still, I gave it a thumbs up. As usual, the acting is superb!

      Reminded me of one of the earliest episodes, when a couple cowboys hurt Chester and Matt really loses it and drags them across the prairie. He was genuinely scary

    Whilst quite likable, that Chester is a complete dunderhead. Why Dillon puts up with the fool, I really don't know. Perhaps Chester makes Dillon feel good about himself. LOL. I know that's why I put up with my best friend. 🤣🤣🤣

    The only thing I didn’t understand with Matt in this episode is why he followed Bostick when he clearly wasn’t the culprit. The victim Identified the man as tall with red hair but he knew the accused man so why wouldn’t he just identify him by name if it was him? Matt was a bit off his game here.
