  • Join John Eichelsheim on Lake Wanaka in this review of the McLay Raptor 741 amphibious vessel. Steve McLay and his team have gone to considerable effort to accommodate the wheels inside the boat, which really sets it apart from the others. Once they’re retracted, you’d never know you were looking at an amphibious vessel.

Finally a attractive amphibious boat. Well done Mclay boat. Grouse boat 🛥. Love the electric system personally I think better than having a extra gas motor to service and they're really loud on sealegs. Cheers.

I have been looking closely at SEALEGS however this boat certainly does look better..

SEALEGS uses the steering wheel for the outboard and the front wheel. This “joystick” might be better!

In the FLORIDA, we have boat ramps everywhere so doubling the price to add wheels is a drawback.

The questions I would liked answered. How long will it last when used in salt water and could it launch off a surf beach in the same conditions traditional methods can manage.

It is engineered for salt water use. Yes it could operate off a surf beach. Dependent on conditions and angloe of incline at the time.

Impressive engineering for sure. However, it seems to be a solution to a problem that does not exist.
