I bought an “open/closed” sign to use at my table for the kids to know when they could come up to me. My kids would always tell me “you are always closed!” 😂 It was true, the only time I was ever able to sit at my table was during small group instruction, so I was never “open”.
I'm a high school student and I have no intention of going into teaching especially not for elementary school, but I love this series so much! I started this morning and I will have gotten to episode 7 by tonight. It's really great because I'm dee cleaning my room right now and I have that same feelings of like moving furniture and getting everthing out before you put it all back together. It looks good! I would just watch out with all of the laminating. I had a principal point out to me once that laminating things can make them hard for kids to read depending on where they are in the room because of the glare. Take a minute to sit around the room and see if the stuff is accessible to everyone.

It's really coming along and is looking great! I may have zoned out and missed it but where are YOU planning to do your work/organizing? I see all the kids seating, the centers, library and meeting area with the beautiful green rug but don't you need somewhere for yourself (like a desk, though I know you got rid of it in one of your first videos because you said it was just too big) to do prep and other teacher-related "stuff"? I saw you put your computer over by the white board but can't imagine how you'll be able to use it...definitely excited to see how the finished product comes out!!
Turning the desk around is intentional. I do the same thing in my classroom. This helps to reduce the “i forgot it in my desk” or “i can’t find it” because children become more responsible with their items and putting it in their backpacks and binders. It also helps to reduce mess. Because she already has caddies for her children’s supplies they do not need to store anything in the desk.
I got bored and started searching youtube for random things and found this series! I love it. I am one to "hate" school but this series had me miss it so much more
This past year was my first year of teaching. You will do great! You definitely will learn a lot and have a lot of trial and error! Just don’t be afraid to ask others in your school for help and you’ll do great. Love your set up videos and can’t wait for the rest!!

Im glad the Velcro strips worked out. Not sure why the command didn’t stick but I can say this...I always clean the wall with alcohol first. Also, not sure where you live but if the humidity is high, sometimes they don’t want to stick. I’ve had that problem here in Florida a few times. FOr command hooks on cinderblock, using an alcohol swab to wipe the spot on the wall first will help the adhesive to stick better. That was the only way I could get mine to hold onto my dorm walls
I don’t know how expensive this would be but for the crate desks you could possibly put some lining or some sort of cushioning on the crate parts so things won’t fall through? Don’t know if it would work but just an idea
Your classroom looks so cool! When you have standing desks does that mean that some kids have to stand while others get to sit? Do they ever complain that it is unfair?
i think you have the grey desks backwards to the chairs. there’s a kind of divot that’s supposed to be on the top of the desk for pencils:) hope this made sense and wasn’t confusing. also this will make it so the opening for the cage part on the desk will be towards the kid for them to put their things in.
12:54 trust me it is so satisfying. watching it and even doing it. back when I volunteered at a dog and cat shelter, I helped out with the badge and id making for all the new volunteers. let me say, it took a while to correlate names and pictures to different folders and days of the people, and later I realized I wasn’t given access to a folder that had a bunch of the missing pictures to the names I had, so I wasted 1 hour trying to find them.. 😂 but laminating them was the best part...

I love watching your videos so far! I'm teaching in China and I'm at home on vacation still. We don't start pre-planning until August 13th. I'm going into my second year of teaching and I remember all the feels of last year. Here's some advice a more experienced teacher gave me last year that helped me not feel too overwhelmed. When you have all these meetings with all the confusing language, choose ONE thing to focus on and learn more about. Take notes on the other stuff, but just choose one thing. As the year goes on you will quickly learn the other stuff :) She was totally right! You have a new instagram follower and subscriber in me! I'm looking forward to seeing how your classroom turns out!
You should put round wall pop vinyl stickers on your round table. They are great to use as white boards and they're not big and clunky and take up space.

7/17 - I stopped the video at the point where you said you were going to put the legs back on the table. Wait to do that bc the coffee table has ridges and may be difficult to write upon if your student doesn't have a clip board (might tear the student's work or leave a line) the coffee table is awesome...maybe utilize as storage or seating with some pillows on top as well as a desk! still enjoying!!!

I so agree! I just finished my first year a couple months ago, and I feel so bad for my students. I know I was a good teacher, but I made so many changes throughout the year that I wasn’t the most consistent. Going into year two in a week and I am doing so much differently!

Your room looks great. Try starting from the middle when hanging letters. This will help center everything. Example with the alphabet: hang MN and work your way out.

I had a terrible time with command strips on my cinderblock walls last year. I ended up using hot glue with all of the hooks and that held. I also agree with the Scotch laminator in that it's a pain to feed the sheet through! I thought it was just mine 😂 Your room looks great by the way!
Your classroom is looking great so far! I'm going into my second year of teaching this fall (both years in Grade 1). I'm not a fan of the Scotch laminators either. My class this year will have 25 students, so I'm a bit nervous about such a big class after having 21 last year.

Kids are supposed to be able to put their folders, papers, etc. so the opening has to face them and the little indent it supposed to be away from them for their pencil

Try using matte laminating sheets. They are a bit more expensive, but they really do eliminate the glare you get with standard pouches! 🤗

Do the desk go the other way so open end is facing them? Look good but like someone said the glare is hard to read on the numbers and letters.

I love watching your videos so far! I'm teaching in China and I'm at home on vacation still. We don't start pre-planning until August 13th. I'm going into my second year of teaching and I remember all the feels of last year. Here's some advice a more experienced teacher gave me last year that helped me not feel too overwhelmed. When you have all these meetings with all the confusing language, choose ONE thing to focus on and learn more about. Take notes on the other stuff, but just choose one thing. As the year goes on you will quickly learn the other stuff :) She was totally right!

You should put round wall pop vinyl stickers on your round table. They are great to use as white boards and they're not big and clunky and take up space.
I think they would drive me crazy haha!
I’m not a teacher, but I love kids! I have 3, 5,3,1. I absolutely love watching teacher vlogs, especially getting the classroom ready! It’s so exciting, I seriously miss being in elementary school, they always say you will when you’re older but you don’t believe them 😂

7/17 - I stopped the video at the point where you said you were going to put the legs back on the table. Wait to do that bc the coffee table has ridges and may be difficult to write upon if your student doesn't have a clip board (might tear the student's work or leave a line) the coffee table is awesome...maybe utilize as storage or seating with some pillows on top as well as a desk! still enjoying!!!
I will have clipboards/whiteboards for them to write on of course!!!

I so agree! I just finished my first year a couple months ago, and I feel so bad for my students. I know I was a good teacher, but I made so many changes throughout the year that I wasn’t the most consistent. Going into year two in a week and I am doing so much differently!

Your room looks great. Try starting from the middle when hanging letters. This will help center everything. Example with the alphabet: hang MN and work your way out.

I had a terrible time with command strips on my cinderblock walls last year. I ended up using hot glue with all of the hooks and that held. I also agree with the Scotch laminator in that it's a pain to feed the sheet through! I thought it was just mine 😂 Your room looks great by the way!

A really good teacher top is to zip tie the legs of the desk together to keep all of them from growing every which way
for the wood sign you could put a red flower on one side and a green flower on the other to determine wether the kids can come up to you or not

Your classroom is looking great so far! I'm going into my second year of teaching this fall (both years in Grade 1). I'm not a fan of the Scotch laminators either. My class this year will have 25 students, so I'm a bit nervous about such a big class after having 21 last year.

Kids are supposed to be able to put their folders, papers, etc. so the opening has to face them and the little indent it supposed to be away from them for their pencil
