    1. Puffiness
    Too much salt diet can cause your body to retain water, resulting in puffiness in your face and body. This can give your skin a bloated or plumped-up appearance. The area around the eye is susceptible to this effect due to its thin and delicate skin. Puffiness or under-eye bags can actually be a consequence of eating too much salt.
    If you suddenly notice puffiness under your eyes, it only makes sense to examine your diet. If you’re eating too much salt, restoring the balance in your body can help with the bloating and restore your skin to normal.

    2. Dehydration- Dry/Flaky skin
    Excessive salt intake negatively affects the amount of water your internal organs absorb. This will then prompt the body to pull water from your cells and skin, resulting in dehydration. It could mean dry and flaky skin, with more prominent lines and wrinkles, as well as a lackluster appearance.
    Another problem with dry skin is that it can trigger the overproduction of sebum. When there is excessive water loss, the skin protects itself by producing sebum or oil that covers the skin surface. This can make your skin look shiny and feel greasy, with the excess oil clogging your pores and triggering breakouts.

    3. Aging
    As consuming excess salt can draw water out from the skin, your skin may become dry and more susceptible to wrinkling. Salty and deep-fried foods are specifically bad for the skin, as foods fried in oil at high temperatures release free radicals, which cause damage to the DNA and accelerate aging.
    Studies suggested that a high salt diet is associated with telomere shortening. Basically, telomeres are the caps at the end of chromosomes, which help prevent damage in cells. Telomeres gradually shorten with time, but certain factors such as eating a high salt diet, smoking, lack of physical activity, stress, and obesity can hasten their shortening. Shorter telomeres have been associated with the aging process and an increased risk of diseases.

    4. Acne/breakouts
    This effect is related to the fact that too much salt can dehydrate your skin, which will then cause the body to overcompensate by producing more sebum. Excess oil can clog your pores and inflame your skin, resulting in blackheads/whiteheads and pimples. This can also worsen existing breakouts.
    There have also been numerous studies suggesting a strong relationship between diet and acne. A case-controlled study published in the Wiley Library concluded that the consumption of salty foods is a possible participating factor in the onset of acne. This is because consumption of salty foods was significantly higher in patients with acne compared to those who are acne-free.

    5. It may cause atopic dermatitis
    Salt apparently affects allergic immune reactions. A team working with Prof. Christina Zielinski at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has demonstrated in cell cultures that salt leads to the formation of Th2 cells. These immune cells are active in allergic conditions such as atopic dermatitis. The team also detected elevated salt concentrations in the skin of patients.

    I know food affects my eczema, but I never realized salt was one of the possible triggers. Thank you for the tips :)

      Salt is not a problem. Sodium from processed food and table salt is bad. I eat carnivore and intake over 4000mg of sodium. Majority is from ancient sea salt. I actually look younger. Check out Dr Berry here on TH-cam. Believe he has a video on eczema.

      I have eczema and have recently reduced salt intake. It seems to be helping. But more time is required to confirm the conclusion. I am very hopeful that the reduced salt intake will solve my eczema problem.

    The very smart and competent Asian doctor in this video is so right and useful to us excema patients. I am very grateful to him for explaning why my topical dermatitis is so acute.       You still need some salt, about one teaspoon a day is important.

      @@Sweat-pd1pw I have to add salt to my food because there isn't salt in veggies, fruits, grains, oils etc and most of the other whole foods that I eat.

    I have a question, I’m not sure if you know much about creatine but I want to take it for working out purposes, but I’ve heard that it can cause acne. If you know if it has any skin befits or not, I’ll appreciate hearing about it. Love your videos btw

    I have a question about hand soaps. One day I happened to rub my hands together after washing my hands and noticed a white residue appear which I assumed to be from the soap. The more I rubbed my hands the more white residue I saw and it took a very long time to remove completely. Among one of the questions I have about hand soaps is if it is normal for soap to be like that on our skin. Does skin have a sponge like quality to it where you have to rub and squeeze to see more soap on it? Some hand soaps contain moisturizers could that actually be what the white residue I am seeing is rather than soap? How do you recommend getting all the soap off our hands as we are rinsing them? I think I am at a point where I am making myself crazy trying to get all the white residue off my hands each time I wash them.

    So salt causes acne, sugar causes acne, dairy causes acne, Greasy food causes acne, what else? air? maybe water? maybe the radiation from screen while watching this youtube video? I'm so done XD... I think i need to die of starvation for a clear skin lmao

      We as humans were designed to eat meat and vegetables-fruits, which has a safe amount of salt and sugar that we NEED to get energy and live .. the problem is that we used to taste very high sweetness and salt, so we do not taste the normal salty-sweet fruits and vegetables anymore.
      We also created (frying) which has more oil you put in your body.
      Some dermatologists say : cow milk and any other type of tits milk was made for their babies, and human bodies don't know how to deal with it.
