      Wang Xiang Zhai a master of xing I and creator or Yi Quan said this, after 40 years of traveling the whole country of china north and south i found only 2 real masters lol do you really think any of these people are real masters? its all commercial bullshit, today 80 years later you would be pressed to find one real master and you would have to search for decades to find him

    TBH you didn't really even get to taste let alone experience the actual art of Xingyi Quan. What you got at that seminar is the simple choreography of the five elements and the external outer shell of the shape that composes the elements themselves. They were completely devoid of any of its essence or power. Xingyi Quan requires years and years of dedicated daily practice to understand and develop their signature leg strength, willpower, focus and intention as well as the internal energy and unique internal engines used by the style. A major part of the skills that need to be developed that takes years to get right, is to time the strikes perfectly with the landing of the front foot so that the entire body weight is behind each and every strike, not just the limbs themselves. Everyone at the seminar were using only the limbs. The beginning students are required to spend an hour daily doing lines of footwork before even combining it with the fists. The outer shapes of the five elements, while they can have some techniques that can be used, are not designed to be about technique they are about generating vectors of energy. Also Xingyi Quan has the 12 Animals form. Each animal is a complete system of self defense on their own and a student after learning them all, usually picks only a few to focus on based on their body type and personality. So there is a lot more to it than just the five elements. Also there is so much Nei Gong exercises that is found within Xingyi Quan that practicing even those everyday can take an hour or more. Traditionally the first and only thing a student learns for months, is a static stance or Zhang Zhuang called San Ti Shi or Three Body Posture which you start out holding for a minimum of 5 minutes on each side until you can graduate to comfortably doing it for 15 minutes on each side. Xingyi Quan is actually a complete martial art derived from stance training or Zhan Zhuang.

    The vertical and inverted punches do remind me of similar techniques we have in Karate which makes sense since the latter was influenced by Chinese martial arts and was essentially more Chinese than Japanese until Japan colonised then integrated Okinawa.

    The Five Elemental Processes reflect the movement of each organ's Qi. For example, the movement of Wood is upward and outwards. This means that on a physical level it implies a smooth and unimpeded expanding motion and on a mental level it implies creativity, inspiration and planning.

    • @jasonwilliams8321

      Probably true from a Chinese medical aspect. Most practitioners of Hsing-i that I have come across are simply manifesting external power and then claiming to have knowledge of Chi. Or if they do have a grasp of internal power are only using beng chuan because it is one of the easier elements to work. Hsing-i is governed by the same rules of stance, posture and movement as other martial arts and you can have heavy chi in your arms all day long but if your stance and footwork sucks your technique will fall apart like a game of Jenga.

  • @UatuEd
    @UatuEd ปีที่แล้ว

    Xingyiquan actually has a large variety of techniques - it's just that they tend to practice most only as single drills; only a subset ever gets put into the forms.

  • @TaoOfTheFist
    @TaoOfTheFist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey D-Mah, just some points to keep in mind.
    So as you mentioned in the video, this particular fighting system is heavily based on spear fighting methods. As with the spear, the power comes from the ground, through the legs to the hips to the waist and outward. You want to treat the rear hand like it's holding the butt end of the spear.
    Secondly, the five elements are the distillation of the energies that the animals use, not necessarily an extension of the five elements.
    Thirdly, you always want to keep in mind Rising, turning, descending, and overturning. These are critical actions in both the system and bagua.

  • @8palmsdigital
    @8palmsdigital 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The movements of Xing Yi Chuan are based on the spear. Each of the 5 elements and subsequently the 12 animals can be practiced as solo drills or combined in an almost endless mix. The simplicity of these short movements hides the complexity of it’s depth. It’s why many may learn but few will master it.

    • @jasonwilliams8321
      @jasonwilliams8321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mastery has many levels. You can actually use Hsing-i in a mostly external context and still win fights. As I have said before Hsing-i though an internal art is still governed by the same rules of stance and movement as all other martial arts at a fundamental level. I have had guys tell me about how much chi they feel in their limbs after standing meditations and then be totally unable to pull off even a basic technique in application. At its core any internal martial art is simply physics. In no way do I consider myself a master but I can't count the times I've knocked other Hsing-i practs on their asses in either free fights or push hands. One of the main differences in my training as opposed to the common methods is that I was taught the 5 elements in a grappling/trapping context long before I started striking. This allowed me to really feel where the individual energies were emanating from (it's all natural, no hoodoo here) and when I began striking it came very easily. One of the biggest drawbacks to the conveyance of the internal styles to the western minds is simply the difficulty of native practitioners conveying that information to us. To the Chinese mind chi is a part of everyday life much like blood flowing though our veins rather than some weird psychic power.

    • @strangelaw6384
      @strangelaw6384 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, practitioners of this style can potentially pose as a huge challenge to boxers, mainly because of 1) the flow mechanics and 2) the direction of attack is always forward and *concentrated*. But in particular the flow between moves are not very well demonstrated in this video. The TH-cam channel Xing Yi Academy demonstrates and explains everything very well.... they are one of the authorities here on TH-cam. Others (in my opinion) are Ismet Himmet and Clear's internal combat arts. NOT Jake Mace's videos. We don't talk about Jake Mace's Kung Fu educational videos.
      However, boxing is a very malleable style with very simple mechanics, which allows for great variation. In addition, boxers can usually be very good with footwork (distance control and stepping). If a Xing Yi fighter wants to win, their footwork needs to be on par with a boxer.

      This was actually considered an old combative boxing style in China. The 5 Element fists were adapted into the Chinese army combatives program in the early 20th century. If you look at other war time combatives programs from WW1 or 2 such as the Martial Stillman Method, you will see a lot of similarities. At the end, hitting is hitting regardless of origin.

    These traditional styles supposedly came from the battlefield right.. That's real combat so if you're training for selfdefense you need to apply real sparring man.. Like Bruce Lee called point Karate at the time: "dry land swimming" (cause u can't learn how to swim if you don't get in the water).. Not saying everyone train for those purposes but I figure some Xing Yi practitioners ought to do that right..
    /peace&love'..

    • @bigwavesun
      @bigwavesun 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's up dude. 100 percent correct. I actually practice this flavor of Chinese combatives and I cringe when I see people talk about it being a battlefield art in videos but then practice it like it's tai chi because it's "internal" or focus on forms only. This art is broken down into 5 distinct fists with moving to teach you the fighting as well as to develop different attributes: aggressive blitzkrieging, flanking, waist snapping, flanking, etc. The 12 animals offer varying ways to implement strategy and energy on top of those 5 fists. If anybody makes it sound super mystical and complex, they probably are the intellectual types who do it for the "art" and would not know how to fight off pillows. If you want to see the same principles in actual motion look up something like Lee Morrison's UC combatives or old WW1 and 2 combatives videos. One of the grandfathers of modern combatives, Fairbairn trained the Shanghai police and adapted that to WW2 fighting for the SAS and OSS. A lot of the principles he taught came from arts like this as well as what he learned from the Japanese.

    • @DG-oo8zf
      @DG-oo8zf 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've sought out and fought a lot of people, in schools, gyms and have used it in street issues against stick ups and that petty circumstances which are just fights and I can say, this art is abusive towards the people you fight against. It gives you a calm willingness to dish the worst at people. You don't even think when you use it. It just happens.
