Why I Don't Hate The Harley Street Rod 750...
Today I'm taking the 2017 Harley Davidson Street Rod 750 for a ride. This bike has gotten lots of hate from both Harley and Non-Harley dudes alike. I'm going to dive into why I don't think this bike deserves all the hate it gets. Enjoy!

I think a big part of it is the sales staff in Harley dealers. If you're not looking at a 30k+ bagger or a softail, they completely ignore you.
I'm from Australia so I don't know how it like in the USA, but when I went into one to buy a street, they where great, the whole reason I went with a harley was cause the customer service was 5 stars, and since I've had my bike I've visited 3 other dealerships with friend , the they have all been fantastic.
Def case by case. I walked into a Harley dealership and told them my cap was 6,000 and they were perfectly happy to work with me
They literally told me that I didn’t want this bike... after I researched it.

Midwestern American here, I've been to numerous harley shops and they've all had meh service. I've actually had more conversations with the bike tech department because sales completely ignored you once they realize your only looking at sportstets or street hds. Most other shops will start talking you into financing packages on used bikes to custom it out so they can bump that small commission up. The harley shops around here seem to not care to put in that effort.
Im a left BK Amputee and I absolutely love my 2018 HD Street Rod 750, I ride it all the time with no mods. Its an Outstanding bike!!!!!!

I purchased a used Street Rod last year, and once you get used to the ergonomics (the foot peg position), it’s a great bike to ride. I ride around forty-five miles one way to work, and it’s a blast. I’m not sure that would be true on a long trip...I haven’t tried that yet. But for what I paid for a 750cc,
liquid cooled, belt drive, motorcycle that will hit 100 in no time, I’m very happy with it. If you want the old school Harley thump, this isn’t the bike for you, but it wasn’t made for that.

I love the comment " it shouldn't matter what you ride". I ride a sporster 883 because that's what I like. But I rode Japanese bikes for years and they were great bikes too. I always say buy a bike that fits you and you will ride it. Buy one you are comfortable on.

Weirdly enough all Harleys best looking bikes are the most hated yet those fat bloated 30k dollar bikes are the most popular ones

Bought a 2019 street rod last week and I love it! It's my first bike and so far I think it's a wonderful choice. I'm not the tallest, so it feels pretty well for me and it has plenty of go power for anywhere local I plan on heading. I think this is a great bike!

Centauri the 2020 street rod 750 is only 7,399 base if you have decent credit and can save up $2,000 and go to the nearest Harley dealership you can get a great finance on the bike for around $100-$150 per month and will help boost your credit even more along with your car payments
After my A2 license done on a Honda cb500f is it not to dangerous because of the weight? Do you feel confident?
I’m 6ft 3 with the 2019 street rod 750 and every pro and con is the same as the ones in this video so height doesn’t play too much of a role with this bike
As a shorter rider (5'6") with long legs, I found the ergonomics to actually be quite comfortable! There's more space between the seat and the pegs than there are on the 883, which was a big deciding factor for me. Light enough for someone my size to handle well too. While a sportster or 883 would be more comfortable for longer rides, realistically I find myself dealing with traffic and fighting for city parking most days.. doesn't deserve the hate for sure; I loved it the first time I sat on it :)
I have test rode this bike. It is the best bike they have under a Softtail model. Definitely better and faster than a Sportster. It is a big improvement over the Street 750. However, for people who are looking for a traditional H-D, it is a bad H-D. So was the V-Rod. The only reason I did not buy one was due to the release of the 2018 Fatbob FXFBS 114. Which turned out to be a bigger Streetrod to me. To I bought that one. Great bike!!!
Test rode one too, personally the iron fitted better. Reason why I bought the sportster, but I totally agree with you. The v rod is a big thing over here in Germany, we younger riders love that bike. I don't get it why old school harley people bashing the v rod. It's the best bike harley ever put out.
As a 26 yo kiddo who is looking for a first bike this looks the most appealing to me at this price point.
I've had a 2019 Street Rod for almost a year. Spend a bit of time and money on a longer pair of footpegs, and the exhaust isn't as big a problem anymore. It's a blast to ride, although I've never tried to wheelie it!
Where did you get the longer pegs ? I just purchased my bike and I love it but I do admit the brake peg specially is awkward but not a deal breaker for what I wanted in a bike as my first.
Just got a 2017 Street Rod last week. So far I'm loving it. The only thing I would change is foot placement. Being 5' 10" is not the best but it's mostly for commuting so I'm only on it for about 1 hour a day. Also having been in a major accident last year in June I hadn't ridden since then because honestly I was a bit scared to get back on. That being said I felt very comfortable taking turns and coming to a stop on this bike.
I wanted a commuter bike and I tested an 883, one of these and a Yamaha Bolt. I liked everything about this except the looks, it has pretty good features for the money. The Indian plant is just an assembly plant, it uses the same parts.
The 883 was super cool but there’s just so many things that are hard to live with, in the end I got the Bolt for the 5 year warranty and worry free ownership but I bet I could get a great deal on a street rod these days.
Iv had a few harleys and can honestly say this bike handles twice as good as a sportster, changed the straight bars to 1 inch raised and return back 1 inch made a massive difference, straight bars made it handle like a shopping trolley with its wheels wrong way, changed the Silancer to a v& h looks good , sounds good, needs a re map ideally but I'm happy with it, if altered the foot brake lowered it 20 mm and extended the pedal inline with the foot rest , really happy with it ,
I got my street Rod new last year and it wasn’t my first choice but since I started to go on longer rides I love it
I rode a street 500 to get my endorsement. I thought it was real smooth. Even though the ergonomics were weird at first, I really started liking the bike by the end of the class. Every one else in the class started liking it too. I'm tall and ride a xr650l. I really think your body gets used to a new position pretty quickly imho. 🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️
jamesmegill I got my MSF certificate learning on the street500 too! I have a fondness for the bike because of this.
I put about 13K miles on a Street-Rod 750 in about 6 months time... It actually caused arthritis in my hip and with PT I was able to recover (34 year old with arthritis... Come on HD). I have moved on and am happily riding the snot out of my 2018 Triumph Bonneville T120. I love the engine and transmission. Handled very well. 2 wishes: 1) It was a 1000cc 2) Better ergos, I was in frog stance all the time and it ultimately damaged my hip and I had to trade the bike in. Awesome power plant, I would own another one if they fixed the ergos and made it more comfortable. Damn good little bike all in all!
I love my street rod. Everyone I let ride it loves it. Take off the stock muffler and just run the cat and it sounds perfect as is.
I've put 10k miles on mine. Lots of 100 mph blasts for 20+ miles. Took it from cali to vegas too. Ez ride. Not even that uncomfy compared to my grom lol
people rag on about Sporty's Ironically the most reliable engine ever made by HD.
All Harley riders including myself are huge critics of something new but just like you said, "Entry level" or even beginner bike. It's not a bad looking scoot and liquid cooled to boot. I think it's biggest downfall is it's size imho, limits your buyer's but I dig it.

I've had one for 2.5 years. Not a bad little bike. Not for tall people, and not for the snobs for sure. It reminded me alot of my SV650 when I had it years ago, which was one of my most favorite bikes to date (I come from sportbikes, and wanted to give harley a try. I've had cbr1000, cbr600, sv650, ninja 500, ninja 250, r6 ect). Making the switch to this one was easy. It's a good bike (even if I don't ride mine enough)
I also have a '17 model with the ABS option that I bought barely used with 720 miles for under 6k. It's a steal at that price considering over 10k new with a 6 speed liquid cooled engine, dual inverted front forks and twin disk front brakes. And yes, the bikes that are sold here are MADE IN AMERICA.

my idea of fun is watching you test bikes on TH-cam. When i can i try to wind down by working on my cars, watching self help, and meditation. I aim to buy a mountain bike soon and eventually a motorcycle. i think what you say about the Street Rod 750 is inherently true, it has it flaws, but when compared to other bikes it is reasonable to say Harley Davidson put forth a reasoanble good effort entering the metric market. What may happened when it was being designed is what happened to a lot of 80s compact domestic vehicles, and that is that they always seem to be inherently inferior to mid or full size counterparts because engineers might have had felt conflicted about marketing a small compact vehicle that cannibilizes sales from vehicles yielding larger profit margins..

Just bought a brand new 2020 street rod, $5800 on the road. I Love it! It’s the bike I wanted, but you wouldn’t find a better deal on any new bike.
I enjoy mine quite a bit. Its definitly got some quirks though. Biggest gripe is the neutral being stupidly finicky on a good day, and jumpiness if you start ot up on a slightly cold day and dont let it warm up. With that being said, for a 750, it feels like theyre using every bit of power they can and it shows when you grab the throttle. Accidental wheelies are definitly a thing if your squiding
I work at a Harley dealership , I love this bike , fast , nimble fun to ride . We sell them but dont have alot on the showroom floor . Every time we get a new one in from the factory it sells . Very low manufacturing numbers... cool bike surprised it doesnt sell more .. I would take this bike over a sporty anyday ..
I think that power isnt needed to do trip or long rides.
Some have cross the US with Groms, it all depends on your taste or goal.
It can be a cool challenge to do trips with bikes that aint made for it.
If you like the bike dont let others tell you what is cool or what is your perfect bike. Buy what you need and like
I have a 2006 V-Rod Street Rod and I also have a 2011 Street Glide. My 3rd bike is a 2004 Yamaha R6. I love them all. But the Street 750 caught my eye last year. Now I will be getting rid of my sport bike and picking up a 750. It looks like a cool Sunday cruiser to take the grand children out on.
I actually have a 2015 Street 750. I bought in in 2018 with 210 miles on it. Now have 28k on it. I love it. Perfect for my size and i ride it over 100 miles on regular basis
I like your honesty in your thoughts on any bike you ride. I own a 2017 street rod it so much fun. It was a two year old left over the dealer had no interest in pushing it. It’s a shame because I think a lot of people would enjoy it after they get use to the riding position

Indio 129 I’m 5’ 10” 30” in seam. After the first ride about 40 miles I was fine. It honestly doesn’t bother me at all I spent four hours on it yesterday in cold New England weather and I felt fine. Plus I’m fat and out of shape. I’ve owned a lot of bikes and this one really makes me happy

I really wanted to like the Street 750 but the ergonomics were awful for my 6’ frame. I wish they would put the 750 motor in something I could actually ride.
I hear ya! The market is definitely narrow with this bike.
They do have a "tall" seat option but 6' is pushing the limit possibly?

I got a Sportster 883 for my first bike, my buddy bought one of these street 750's. Both of us are happy with our purchases, but both are already craving more power. That Street is faster than my Sportster, but my Sportster is far more comfy for me. I have a 40 minute commute to work, I wanted some comfort, my friend has a 15 minute commute, he wanted something more fun.
I have a 2010 Road King and 2019 Street 500. I love both bikes. The road king for cruising and the 500 for going to the shops, around town fun stuff.
When I rode the street rod, I couldn't believe how bad the ergos were. But then I rode a CBR600 and the light dawned. Harley gave the street twins sport bike ergonomics. That's a huge error. Even sport bike riders hate sportbike ergomonics. I would imagine that if Harley could give it normal ergonomics, and if they priced it right, it would compete reasonably well with the SV650, MT-07, and the Kawasaki 650 twins. Maybe technically not quite up to snuff, but not that bad, and I think the Harley badge on the tank is something that would still be a powerful incentive for many people.
I also work, work and work almost all day. Luckily I work while riding my grom doing food deliveries so it makes it fun.

As an owner of this bike, its a mixed bag. The motor is great and is pretty quick however the ergos are really the issue. The aftermarket is also really small for this bike. If anybody has one, let me know what you did to remedy the seating position. I can't decide if I want clip on bars or tracker bars. The seating position really keeps you conflicted. I say sit on one and really make sure you like it. I would not buy this bike again however it is still a great bike.
it's easy to get sucked into the crowd to lay some shade on a bike. Those that do, like you said, probably never rode it, or just don't care for the looks.
I don't care for the looks personally, but seemed like a pretty solid bike. You were givin it the beans and it was scootin right along!

Don't forget that Harley is aggressively seeking the world market because we American's are not buying as many bikes these days. I am an avid Harley rider, but their business model has changed greatly over the last three years. All you have to do is look at the "new" releases lately and see that they are focused on other Countries. I really enjoy the channel.
I love my vlx600, it is IMO everything a bike should be, simple and rugged if you know what I mean...nothing classy about it at all!!! Really dig your vids, keeping them coming bro!!! I wouldn't mind having one of those 750's...they look awesome!!!

I own one. Its my first bike so I have nothing to compare. I agree its a fun bike that has plenty of muscle for its weight but is not comfortable for too long of a ride.
Was thinking about buying this bike...I'm 5' 7 I'm a big boy to an extent but losing weight this would be my first bike....I love it just iffy bc some ppl are very discouraging....

I've got a '17 that I'm pretty happy with. It's a great bike at that price-point, and it's built like a tank! I'm 5'8" so I fit O.K. Any taller and your knees would stick up in the air. The stock foot-pegs are waay too short. I bought some longer old-school one's, but Harley finally came out with some decent dirt bike-style units that look great. Mine (Avon) costs $20 while the factory one's are $200. They look worth it though. Biltwell makes some good 7/8 Bars that are far more Comfortable/Practical than the stock broomstick, and the Tuffside fender eliminator is worth it's weight in gold. They also make a good looking seat for it. The stock seat is thin and gets you a little too close to the rear rocker cover. I would buy it again. Now that it's out of production, I guess it's collectable.....
I'm 5'10 and the bike fits me fine. Pegs bothered me but once I got used to them the bike flows good.
I love these bikes. Beats the Sportster coming and going. Harley would have had a winner here with this turning into an adventure bike. It can run circles aroudn the Himalyan. There are a few goofy things - like that vestigal fairing, and the mirrors on the ends of the handlebars, but those are trivial. It's light (for a Harley) and easy to ride. Test rode one and ended up getting a Dyna instead, twice the engine side and half again the weight. If I end up getting one, the seat will be changed, bags added, and a windshield installed. I will also do something about the pegs as well. Still, personalization is the norm for Harley.
I used to have a Honda cb550 four cylinder. It was a cool bike. That gives me appreciation for this model of Harley.
I’m noticing there’s a lot of snobs out there in everything now beers snobs, snobs at the shooting range hating on certain guns like glocks and motorcycle snobs. I’ve rode this bike before and I liked it so much that I’m looking to buy one because it makes more sense to ride this work work everyday instead of my GSXR 750 people need to stop being so stuck up

I have an XG750. I added engine guards and small highway pegs so I can stretch my legs occasionally, but it's quick and fun to ride.
It all depends on the rider. Make some testrides n don't let the community tell u what to ride.
Also...if u put some work in ur bike u gonna love it more...no matter what it is.

Your reviews of this bike have gotten me interested in Harley! Could you make a “scrambler” out of this bike, like the Ducati with a couple mods?
Braaapson Riding the street 750 would make a much better scrambler than the street rod. The street 750 has much better ergos and is much more customizable. I’ve seen several cool street 750 scramblers from customer builders.

Kinda joking, but honestly if you have a dirt bike, you really don't need a scrambler. It's a shittier dirt bike that can also hit the street. A cafe racer would probably be a better choice. Street bike that can also go off-road. Scrambler is a master of none sort of thing. Cafe racers are good on the street and passable on dirt. Kind of like dirt bikes can technically be ridden on the street but are primarily for dirt
I dislike the Street 500 bike because it doesn't compete with the competition and costs more lol. I respect what they're trying to do with it, I think it just needs a couple years to really evolve in on what they're trying to do. I just hope they don't axe it like the v-rod. The v-rod was the coolest shit. I feel like Harley Davidson themselves failed it more than anything. I do kinda like the Street Rod a bit though. I feel like that particular iteration has a whole lot of potential. I do wish the ergonomics were different though. I'm just shy of 6' and I would never get one just because of that. Which is fine, that just means it isn't made for me, but with that in consideration I wish they had adjustable controls to some extent. Maybe able to lower the pegs or raise the handlebars or something.
All in all, I think Harley needs to do more work on the Street 500. Make it lighter and cheaper. I think they should even make a Street 250 or Street 300. These are the markets they could really do well to be apart of imo. They also need to work on their marketing. They are a victim of the strength of their own branding. Really going out of their way to get these bikes to reach people who may want then (i.e. not people riding 30 grand road glides or something) and going out of their way to imply it's "okay" to have one of these things would really help, which imo is why the v-rod died. This is all just my take, though.
HI! This is like my sixt bike, i've had a 750GpZ, Rebel 250, Zzr600, Cbr600F4i and SuzukySv650. I love and enjoy this one the most of all. I love the price, and also the fact that is a Harley. Let me tell you that before buying this i've tried every Sportster an cannot make myself to buy one, i didn't like them at all beside the fact that they're gorgeous cannot find another reason to have one. I've put a Vance Hines exhaust and a Renthal Street Fighter handlebar and really makes my day rode my Street Rod.

Looks like a very good entry level/around the city bike. Cost is just too much. 6000 to 7000 seems to be The sweet spot for new riders.
It’s a matter of opinion. I own one and love the control of it.
My 18 street rod 750 I got it as my 4th bike and I love it I’ve put 2,000 miles on it since November of 2020 and the first thing I did was a new seat that’s a little wider and also a set of highway bars which really made it more comfortable for long trips because in the stock riding position my right leg would always cramp right at my hip but the highway bars really gave it a good cruising feel but I’m happy with it and I agree the ergonomics are bad but it’s got good power behind it and it’s a good beginner bike and also a good cruiser but that’s just my opinion from my bike
I think one reason people hates this bike is the sound. if i wanted a bike that mimics the metrics id buy a metric, cheaper and more reliable. IMO.
I think a simple tank lift on the streets fix pretty much all styling issues with the bike, for me. No clue why HD decided to make the tank sit flat like that, it looks so bad. All the pics I've seen of Streets with a lift on it make it look like an almost completely different bike.

I read that the street 500 and 750 were meant primarily for the overseas markets. where everyone rides little scooters/bikes everywhere and the harleys are just too big/loud/powerful.
Imo, it is made as an entry level motorcycle for developing nations like here in India and I can confirm this theory because new riders now have option to buy a Harley Davidson. Harley Davidson will be able to lure new riders with affordable options. It's about diversifying and expanding your portfolio. That's what Harley is doing and it's not for everyone.
Man i literally bought my dyna because i felt like i busted my ass for nothing. They definitely help.
my experience with my street 500, being a 5'4" small fellow, resurrected rider, mid 50's. 15o lbs, the weight of the bike for me is heavy, but really, i enjoy a lot, i could move quick, my mates got fatto, glider, other bigtime bikes

I like the bike. My main concern with Harley motorcycles is that parts don't seem to be widely available. Currently, I ride a Yamaha, and I buy all my parts, aftermarket, off of Ebay, cheap and good quality. With Harley's it's my understanding that you have to go to the dealer, and get fucked, whenever you need parts. Also, I hear that the parts are VERY expensive, often have to be special ordered, and take forever to arrive. That may work for wealthy people, who have their Harley parked in the garage, gathering dust most of the time; however, I actually use my motorcycle as my primary transportation. As I said, it's a really nice bike though.
I've been working a lot to brother. I have new parts for my Harley I need to find time to put them on and make a video. I have a new mikuni carburetor and some motor mounts to do.

The big problem I have with this bike is the fact parts are very hard to get and super expensive because you are paying for that Harley logo.
I've had a few bikes , now riding a Road Glide . I wanted to find a smaller bike for riding around locally . I found a 2018 Street Rod ,got it thru a repo had only 83 miles on it ! Thought it be a fun bike to ride , but the Brake pedal was not placed in a comfortable place ! I found forward controls ( Free Spirit ) for about $800 . Put the controls on ,what a difference Now ! This bike is fun too ride . This 750 has a lot of power for a 750 , handles great on back roads .

I just bought one I have always hated Harley but just fell in love with the street rod when I saw it
I was going to buy one of these and went to test ride it during one of the HD dealer events. Got shit from three different people about me being on a "girls bike". Decided I didnt want to be part of that crowd, so I went and got a Yamaha XSR900. I still go to the dealer events, but they cant throw shade at 115hp in a bike that weighs and costs a third of theirs. Yeah, it sounds like an angry sewing machine, but it's got the two things they dont- performance and reliability.
The Gas Tank throws the bikes lines off... from the side at least...it’s like harley said, lets make this thing as ugly as possible and use this tank.
That riding position is called "standard", likely still the most common motorcycle ergonomic position. Harley needs to engineer the pipes out of people's way and that bar looks like it could use some more bend/sweep.

I got the 750 street I love it in the UK 🇬🇧 it's light perfect for around town and comfortable long distance am not that tall so its helps its pulls off fast and hits the speed fast enough
Its a pocket harley , i went on a 2500km long ride on my rod , the only 2 things i hated about the bike is the seat and the heat , trust me the pillion seat is miniscule , but then its a fun little thing , it does the job although it dsdn really fit as a street bike and definately not a tourer , some mods might make it comfortable , i use a ride on air .
Yes it's true. North American Street Rods are made in the USA..even the engine, a lot of people say 'yeah but the engine is still made in India and shipped to the US'...NOT TRUE. Completely assembled in the USA. Every other market is manufactured and assembled in India. Canada and USA = USA. Before people jump down my throat about details, yes there are components cast in India/China etc and shipped to the USA for assembly, but it is a USA made motorcycle for our market. The Street Rod is a great bike. Built well, great quality, and probably as good as an MT-07 or the Vulcan S. Totally different feel though, and before the Yamaha people start yelling 'my MT-07 is waaaaaaay better', I will jump in and say 'different strokes for different folks'. Whether you believe it or not, the Street Rod is comparable in every way. Ergos do suck though, but you do get used to it. Cheers.
It's a great bike. While I love classic Harley styling, I think this bike shows Harley can make bikes that will appeal to all kinds of riders. In the end the only thing that matters is the ride good. With this bike I think the answer is a definite yes.
You're so positive not to mention you can ride awesome. I actually like this bike but my friend who is one of Harley's (Fact here) top mechanics said this thing is a total slug.
Well for sure, there will be after sales items to boost performance and that will make it even quicker.
I might end up getting one of these as a commuter vehicle for work.
My favorite HD of all time is the XR750 Flat Track bike, I own an 09 XR1200 and the Street Rod is my kind of bike, but my XR has the handling, power and the flat track Style that I love, if the Street Rod looked more like the new XG750R race bike, I would buy one, plus finding neutral on the Street is a nightmare, I rode a Street 500 to recertify myself at the HD academy, and it needed better brakes, better exhaust and better suspension, and a Tach, if the Rod came with a Tach like my XR, I would probably buy one, it is so close.

Love my Street Rod. only took the baffle out to make it sound 10 times better and replaced the headlight for a LED one
Own one and love it. I have a buell firebolt too but I love that 750 street rod 🤘

Not ridden one but it looks great, the Dark Custom 500 on youtube looks even better. In this new world of putting teh environment first, we had better get used to smaller bikes with lower emissions.
12k on my 17 rod I love this bike smile every time I ride it.I had zero issues with this bike.my last 2 bikes were a ultra limited and SGS candy custom I love my little Harley the best
Agreed on v stars, mine struggled at 65 in wyoming wind, true turd. My yammie gz250 felt stronger sometimes
Yeah, never been a fan of the vstar 650 ride, but I think they did a good job with the classic styling.
I put 2200 miles on a 2015 750 Street in a week last spring. The ergonomics would be my only real complaint about the trip.
I have always thought they needed that engine (at the price range) in a bike that more resembled the fabled Harley 45. These were actually small bikes that could be very friendly entry level mounts while carrying on the unique Harley retro look. I even went so far as to do a little Photoshop development and the results were rather nice. It was a Street 45 if you will.
WOW a lot of bikes. I thought I was overdoing it with 4. Never rode a Harley though yet.
