My family and I are conservative Christian small business owners that value freedom and respect the Constitution. The last two years have been a nightmare living in Northern California. Endless wildfires, lockdowns, closed churches, $5 gas, homeless camps, ridiculous gun laws, drought, high taxes, and a tyrannical governor have pushed us to leave. I’ve spent months researching where to go where we feel safe. A place we can afford. A place where the governor is a real true American that loves this country. We were considering Tennessee but are seriously looking at South Dakota. South Dakota is currently our number 1 choice.
@@TristanEmond we’re working on getting our houses ready to sell. My mom owns her house in Blairsden Ca. It’s paid off. My wife and I own our house. We have over $100k in equity. We’re looking to get at least a couple acres with possibly two houses on the same property. Is that possible?
@@jasonbrauner3007 It's possible but tough. Many of the subdivisions were established with covenants - which state one home per lot. And then some county regs only allows one home per lot as well - depending on the county. That being said, if you look in the right county and have some patience, hopefully we can find something that works. Most people in your situation are opting for a bigger home with multiple access points. Send me an email to tristan@rapidhomesonline.com and we can get more detailed in your home search.
I am moving from WA to SD. I was there in October 2020 and it was spectacular. And the people were really friendly. What a change from the liberal attitudes I encounted in WA. I am getting married at the Lewis & Clark Rec Area Lodge in Oct. !
I live in WA and loved this state for 28 years now, but unfortunately considering moving now due to the fact that our governor is making our lives here totally miserable 😕😢

I just made the move from Henderson NV to Summerset SD. I should have moved here back in 2019. If you move here, follow the "when in Rome do as the Romans" rule. Most of us who move here from the nanny state rat hole parts of the US come here for the freedom aspect and small town living. People who move here and spew that "back in (fill in state) we did it this way" crap will NOT be very well liked here.
@@larryh502 Hey my friend! How is life in the Summerset land? :) Thanks for your comment - I always appreciate your directness and calling it like you see it. 😎

Absolutely agree, I live in California, and I really love your current Governor, I'm envious of the people living there enjoying freedom, and the way our country should be. I'm sick of all the crazy liberals and their stupid ideology of utopia. I live in the real world of hard work and play and your state fits all those things, I would love to move and become a part of that, but I'm stuck in this rat trap for a few more years. When I do eventually move, I want to blend in, NOT change what is there. I hope more people that move there, go for the same reason. Leave liberal policies where you come from and don't ruin a few of the last good states out there please.
@@annette9559 yeah that's not a thing. There are people from all political ideals in the state. The general consensus is simple though: Just don't try to change things. 😎
because south dakota has people with morality, sense of family, accountability, responsibility and humility. something EVERY SINGLE COASTAL STATE has lost decades ago
The thing about traffic here...is none of the stop lights have sensors they’re all time based and not only that but sometimes it feels there is a stop light on every block.
The traffic lights in NYC have radar detectors to trap you, so you may be adding a $100 speeding fine to your grocery shopping trip in addition to stopping at every traffic light along the way depending on the time of day. We drove through Sioux Falls during "rush hour" and wondered where all the cars went.
Moving around the entire globe for more than a decade (NY home state to being stationed in Vegas, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, and California for stateside) my wife and I ended up next door in Southern MN. Her family moved here from California and regret nothing! Our weekend trips revolve around going to Sioux Falls for concerts, the zoo, the airshows, and Carnaval which is an amazing restaurant! Although we're 2 hours away we still love having SF/SD as our neighbor and enjoy every visit! Oh, and that chislic stuff? Amazing!!!
I was born in Tyler MN! So I can relate. Although our trips to the big city SF were few and far between back then. The mall was huge! 🤣 And you can have my chislic portions.... 🥸
I moved back to SoDak in 2004 from Commiefornia. Saw the riding on the wall. As much as I loved the ocean and vineyards, I love my family and freedom more. I believe it was Providential that I moved back when I did in retrospect with all the lock down and mismanagement I see under Newsom. Here people take responsibility and are neighborly. What he said is true about South Dakota. They are very friendly people overall. Your reputation in a small town can be ruined if you cross the locals, but everyone in a small town ralleys together after a tornado or death in a family. Those are South Dakota values.
In NYC, after a catastrophe they'll loot and burn and search your body for valuables. I remember one early winter morning decades ago, I had a dead battery and asked a guy with a kid for a jump from his car. He refused, saying he had to take his son to a hockey game. That's a teaching moment in NYC. Imagine them now when even toddlers wear masks and glorify anonymity.
One big reason is Sioux Falls. It's one of the fasted growing cities in Midwest. It's still a small city but big enough to have plenty to do and enjoy. The landscape in southeastern SD is pretty. Very hilly and thickly wooded along the Big Sioux River. I think the biggest reason to live in SD is the Black Hills. I think it's the most beautiful place east of Yellowstone Park but safer since you never have to worry about bears tearing through your campsite. There are no bears in the Black Hills. It's just great.
I was just there the end of January to find a place. We are moving there sometime hopefully this month. The stock show and rodeo was getting started, so there was more traffic on Saturday, but even for this country boy it wasn't bad. Fell in love with the city and can't wait to move there.

My best regards from Germany, in which nothing, absolutely nothing, is going (not even remotely) like you over there, across the pond! It is. Biggest problem with South Dakota homes, is the prevalence of laminate flooring. I despise laminate. It’s cheap, it’s noisy, it’s not waterproof (unless you buy the waterproof variety)
@@TristanEmond I Think my biggest problem with it, the house I put a bid on, was re-renovated by a contractor that owned it. I have seen the crime rate for rapid city is very high which concerns me. Would you please help me understand from someone who lives there if the crime rate is concerning for locals and if you feel safe living there with your family?
So I don't think the locals feel unsafe. I've been here running around town since my teens, and raised my 4 kids here. My teenage daughter takes off to go shopping, coffee, or work all by herself and has never concerned us. When I told my 23 year old son about the "crime rate", he said "wait, what?". If you're looking to get away from crime, expensive real estate, trashy people, bad roads, terrible school system, Rapid City will be all of those things but probably worse. I was looking at Sioux Falls from Dallas. I want to get away from people. My biggest issue is that there seems to be few larger lots with new homes like there are down here. 1-10 acres with new construction is common outside Dallas. It seems like most new construction around Sioux Falls are smaller lots.
Yes the "everything is bigger in Texas" rule holds true. While you'll get some space in SD, it's tough to find larger new construction lots. Kinda a money thing too - more homesites you can put in a development = more money for developer. 🤷♀️ We have a few acre to 3 acre type on the outskirts of Rapid City, but we are generally more sprawled out than Sioux Falls.
Thanks for making this. Learned a lot! Like the other comments governor kristi noem is a big factor! I love my space too which is a big plus for me. Only question... How are the masks there? Stores super strict about them? Are you allowed to shake somomes hand? Haha Ive lived here in OR for 3 years. It gets worse everyday. So im just wondering.
I've heard that from many people! Masks are dependent on area. I've heard Sioux Falls and Brookings have mask mandates for their cities, here in Rapid City it's by business decision. Our first winter there it was the coldest in recorded history. In all of December, the temps never went above 0 degrees. On Christmas Eve, it was -40 with a -100 degree wind chill. We were there September 2021 in RC and everywhere we went we didn't get asked to wear one ever. We had a blast. It was like it was 2019 still. Love that town!
No state income tax, but they more than make up for it with super high property taxes and sales taxes. And when you retire with a lower income those high property taxes and sales taxes don’t go away. Oh any if you move there you have to deal the winter. Just go for visit in the summer months.
Yes! They'll get their tax money somehow that's true. 😳🤣 I always try to make sure people realize about that cold stuff...summer is amazing for visiting but I love spring and fall as well. Thanks for your comment. 👍
How high is a high sales tax? My county in South Dakota is 4.5%. Doesn't seem that high to me. Where are you from and how much lower is your sales tax?
My family and I are conservative Christian small business owners that value freedom and respect the Constitution. The last two years have been a nightmare living in Northern California. Endless wildfires, lockdowns, closed churches, $5 gas, homeless camps, ridiculous gun laws, drought, high taxes, and a tyrannical governor have pushed us to leave.
I’ve spent months researching where to go where we feel safe. A place we can afford. A place where the governor is a real true American that loves this country.
We were considering Tennessee but are seriously looking at South Dakota.
South Dakota is currently our number 1 choice.
I've talked with and helped many Californians - and they have been happy to get into South dakota. If I can help, lemme know! 👍

The thing about traffic here...is none of the stop lights have sensors they’re all time based and not only that but sometimes it feels there is a stop light on every block.
OMG right? Especially downtown...you can get thru 2, but the stars have to align to get thru the 3rd. I'm not an engineer, but WTF? 🤣
Where you from in NY, bruv?
I moved back to SoDak in 2004 from Commiefornia. Saw the riding on the wall. As much as I loved the ocean and vineyards, I love my family and freedom more. I believe it was Providential that I moved back when I did in retrospect with all the lock down and mismanagement I see under Newsom. Here people take responsibility and are neighborly. What he said is true about South Dakota. They are very friendly people overall. Your reputation in a small town can be ruined if you cross the locals, but everyone in a small town ralleys together after a tornado or death in a family. Those are South Dakota values.
Thank you for this comment. 👍 You stated it perfectly.
Yeah Sioux Falls has been nuts the past few years. Many people like it over there. I'm pretty happy with my Black Hills back yard. :)

Hey guys from SD, I happened to stumble from Germany across this channel and watch this video. At first I think, "Really now? Now I'm going to watch a video like that !?" The moderator looks like (Please do not get this wrong!) a mixture of -friendly tax advisor from next door and (if you just listen to) that mega sales voice that keeps on whispering "come here, to (f***ing) great SD! We love it." ...And the title, you really have to admit that, doesn't really promise that you would have to expect theeeeee meeeega video. Now comes the big BUT. I listen to the soft sound, agree to all points that would be valuable to me... and at the end of the video I think, "yes, off we go to SD". ;-) Really touted very nicely! My best regards from Germany, in which nothing, absolutely nothing, is going (not even remotely) like you over there, across the pond! I love my country and the values that were once associated with it, for our great minds and spirits, who produced a lot and much more. But I hope for a better future! You in SD exude a kind of hope and that gives hope! Hope that it will soon be back to normal for us and our children! Here everything is turning towards 1933. And all the joy and freedom is just disappearing. You can't imagine it. If it weren't so sad, you'd have to laugh out loud. Lockdowns, Case Numbers high, but no illness, Cops are going totally crazy, sometimes like the SS in the 3rd Reich. Incredible conditions. If you coughs, everyone in the crowed looks as if we were in Zombie Land, because they are brainwashed and manipulated by the massmedia. Many people realy think at now that Co-vid is a deadbringing killervirus. No get together with friends from more than 2 Houses, medial tests over here, over there. And many more realy stupid Things. Well, let's hope for the best! Just enjoy everything, people over there, good food, cinema, the freedom to sit in a meadow with the children and have a picnic, spending time with your own important persons, many more, just normal life!

Thank you! I appreciate you watching. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask - I've tried to answer most in my videos. :)
My friend, you left out the most important reason for moving to SD: 2nd Amendment rights.
AHHH! We don't have any guns around here...😂 I had some clients up here last week that were ecstatic they could buy water, a power drill, and a gun all at the same store. 😎
@@TristanEmond When we lived in SD every pickup (it was the state vehicle) had a gun rack and weapon proudly displayed in the rear window. Loved to see it; it symbolized freedom to us.
@@Cissy2cute how long ago ? Is it still like that ?
@@rubiconoutdoors3492 I don't know. It's been a while since we were there, sorry. But it wouldn't surprise me LOL
Nothing funnier that you frightened whiny little boys hugging your iron teddy bears...We have been coming for your guns for over 50 years and haven't gotten there yet!..But You KNOW It's True!
I'm from Miami, FL... it looks to me like S. Dakota is so cheap, it's practically free!
I think some locals might disagree with you. haha! But talking with many people in other metropolis cities, they are amazed how much cheaper things are here.
There’s nothing wrong with being introverted and not wanting to talk to your neighbors. Everyone wanna talk about ism this and discriminate that these days. Well I’m here to add a new one, not everybody is outgoing, bubbly and pleasant to be around. Some people don’t want to talk and don’t care. Imagine. Next.
Damn sunshine, take it easy. You can have all the alone time you need...wow.
Maybe they are going through a death of a loved one or some kind of bad experience in life. If you don’t have anything nice to say then it’s best to not say anything at all until you can.
Thank you for making this video. I wanting to show my friend about South Dakota and it was a great well made video to share to him. Take care 💯💯💯
Awesome! Thanks for watching and sharing.
Considering moving from tx to SD I’m a single mom and I have no idea where to start this will be a first for me. I feel that God is pushing me in this direction
Hi Andrea! I would be happy to help you in this adventure. I have so many videos on here to give you a feel of what to expect. Make sure you are ok with the winters first! :) If you'd like to chat with me about the possibilities (no obligation) schedule here: calendar.app.google/dqbdtRPSKd6duwZK7
Oh gosh I used to live in Bergen County, New Jersey and omg never again. South Dakota seems more of my vibe but idk if I can live through the winter season there. I hope to visit someday and check it out in person.
Always the best way to get a good feel for it. Winter isn't as harsh as other places here, but it can be long depending on the year. Come and do some snow sports! 😎
Greetings, can you please kindly give me an average price for one bedroom apartments in SD? Want to relocate there. Thanks
My son is in a lower level 1 bedroom apt and is paying $900/mth. I have seen cheaper options, but those might not be where you want to live...😁

I am in New Zealand and i am considering immigrating to the US and moving to SD, its an amazing looking state, im a little worried about how cold the winters and the wind, but all in all seems great.
Do you have winter in New Zealand? Yeah you gotta be prepared for cold and windy days. It's just something you learn to deal with up here. 🤷♂️
@@TristanEmond Oh yeah we have 4 seasons, ours are just more mild, consider summer a hotter dryer spring and our winters a colder wetter autum/fall. We also dont get snow as a guarentee in winter and we have more mountians than SD so less wind.
@@ryanbensberg5846 Yeah you'll have crazier weather pattern changes up here. New Zealand looks like a cool place!
@@TristanEmond NZ is pretty and a nice place to live. Sadly if NZ were a US state we seem to have moved from a swing state to a left stronghold, our election is this yeah and hopfully people will reject the corruption and missmanagement, but if not then i may be moving to your free country.
I have a strong desire to drive here and to get away from the chaos and fast pace city life.... life seems easy going and simple in South Dakota.
Easy is a word I've used to describe life around here a few times. :) As long as you have a decent cash flow, of course. LOL
I am in Vegas. And my house is going up for sale this week and I’m going to be moving to Sioux Falls South Dakota.
Yay! Welcome to SD. Good luck getting your home sold - from what I've heard, it's a hot market all over the country.
It is. Biggest problem with South Dakota homes, is the prevalence of laminate flooring. I despise laminate. It’s cheap, it’s noisy, it’s not waterproof (unless you buy the waterproof variety)
@@magicalmystery1964 True story. So much laminate......
@@TristanEmond I Think my biggest problem with it, the house I put a bid on, was re-renovated by a contractor that owned it. So why on earth did he put in one of the cheapest available laminates on the market? Even put it in the kitchen. You need a waterproof flooring in the kitchen. I’m afraid I’ll have to tear up the floor in the kitchen in the living room and put a superior flooring down. Show some professional pride!
@@TristanEmond Told my agent the owner needs to knock down a few thousand off his price for a cheap floor
However they are both very good kids and make smart choices. Now maybe you feel it more if you were directly involved (police officer, etc) you'd see it more. Obviously the numbers are there - it's just not as in your face as it seems. That's my take on it anyway. 🤷♂️🤙
You are the most beautiful creations of God 😍. How do you cope, any secret?
Where can I get info on whether and how a Canadian might retire to SD (Sioux Falls)?
Check out my buddy Ramzi's TH-cam channel. He's a realtor over there that can answer your questions for you.

I live in rapid city South Dakota, there is hardly traffic here and one part I like about here is stuff to do in the black hills
Yep. Both of those things are often mentioned by people out here. They love it!
If you're looking to get away from crime, expensive real estate, trashy people, bad roads, terrible school system, Rapid City will be all of those things but probably worse. Don't forget about some of the highest property taxes in the country. I do not go outside in Rapid without a conceal carry. Not to mention the rampant theft problem, If you leave your car unlocked for one night expect it gone if the keys are in or completely ransacked and stripped of valuables. Schools are also among some of the worst in the country, completely underfunded. Please, please, please look at the statistics before you move to Rapid City, don't make the same mistake I did.
Yours truly,
A former rapid city resident of 17 years.
Thanks for sharing your experiences! People who watch this channel want to know all sides.
Hello habibi I see the top comment by Jason and was considering a lot of places too, similar situation with cancel culture and the dangers that come with it, I'm Muslim but still don't feel safe here in Michigan. I have business reasons for not wanting too much tax, I value the constitution, free speech, nature, and many other things.
I considered south Carolina for the values the people hold, but it is still dangerous even in the better areas.
I am now considering south dakota !
SD is known for being very business friendly! And we like our freedoms and family values. Can't get away from the nature! I would hope you would feel safe here, but I'd recommend a visit to get the feel of the place and have some conversations with people you meet.
I'm very close to bringing my USA truck up to look for my little parcel of land to build on, very soon. The conservative governor, the natural beauty, hunting and fishing... Eventually, my wife will come with me up from Mexico to help build. Looking forward to it.
We got all those things. Good luck on your trip up here!
@@TristanEmond Thanks. I've had my eye on SD for over a year.
My boyfriend and I are heavily considering moving there late this year. Want to save up and buy a house. He can take his job with as he works remote, and saving income tax will be amazing. It’s still relatively affordable to buy a house, it’s beautiful, we LOVE the cold, and we want to be around a lot of people like us. We love the governor. Don’t worry about how we will vote lol
Sounds like SD might be perfect for you...especially since you love the cold. 🤣🤣 Let me know if you have a chance to visit and I can show you around!

My brother just moved from Colorado to south or North Dakota
We've had a few Colorado-ites move north. :)
Does SD require visas if your from California, Oregon or any blue state, if so how long are they allowed to visit?
No way! Part of what makes SD amazing is it's freedom. Come and visit, come and stay. Everyone just asks you don't try to change anything. We love our SD the way it is! 💕💯
For the beautiful Kristi of course!!! 🥰
🤣🤣 I mean, I guess everyone has their reasons.
The national corporate guys require it (best buy, safeway), but we only wear one shopping in stores, not walking around or in restaurants. I just shook someone's hand today. 😁
@@TristanEmond okay. I personally dont wear one but I rsrely ever go to the big stores any way haha. I love the country so im usually out in the woods or some trail :) but thats still nice to know. Ive seen Gov. Norm Instagram account where events are happening, no maks and living their lives. It just looks awesome and miss that, even shaking someones hand, my goodness it has been awhile. Thats awesome man! Lobe the videos! Im looking near rapid city, spearfish(sorry if I misspelled that), hill city, black hills, just around the forest. :) or western side of the river. :) so as soon as a job lands im out. Anyways, love the videos!
@@Nelsoh_ west river rocks. 🤣 We've really enjoyed being able to be on a trail all by ourselves in 20 minutes. Went snowshoeing last weekend! Things are open for business in SD - The stock show is in full force this week. 👌👍
I live in Sioux Falls and there are MANY places here you can shop without a mask (it's the box stores like Walmart, Target, etc that enforce masks). Both major grocery stores leave it up to customers to decide to mask or not. Have attended many events here in Sioux Falls and masks were not required either.
@@ebgbjo2025 I was thinking Sioux falls but wasnt sure if that is a liberal city and same with the masks. But knowing that, thank you. Going to do more research on that area. :) im jealous of you. I grt looked at like im the crazy one, get kicked out of stores, have to carry a gun cause I wesr my trump hat. Etc. Fuck oregon. Seriously Fuck everything about. Done being nice ahaha. Kinda snapped over the winter break. 2021 equals no more bullshit. Thank you for the info! Seriously thank you. :)
How’s property tax?
Property taxes are higher than many other states, but not the highest in the country - since we don't have a state income tax. Check out The REAL Cost of Living in Rapid City - in that video, I showcased 4 homes and averaged their tax rate to about 1.1%.
Can you please tell me what is the fb page that you mentioned where you can buy meat straight from a rancher?
South Dakota Local Meat Producers. facebook.com/groups/284134812597357
You can ask if anyone has some beef ready in whatever amount you need 1/4, 1/2, whole - make sure to include if you require any specific feed (most finish with grain), your time frame, and area you are willing to pick up at. They'll tell you the cost per pound and you'll cover all the processing fees at the locker. We got more coming in Sept!! :)
@@TristanEmond thank you so much
I’m sold:)
I guess that means I did my job? 🤣 We do love it here in SD.
Forty below + thirty mph winds boys & girls. If you come here, leave your crazy at home please.
True story. So awesome when that wind is calm for a few days! 😂
Our first winter there it was the coldest in recorded history. In all of December, the temps never went above 0 degrees. On Christmas Eve, it was -40 with a -100 degree wind chill. People were warned not to stay outside for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time. The saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"? Honestly, I grew as a person out there. It still had that "frontier" feel to it. Went back East and the people seemed nothing but a bunch of whiners.
@@Cissy2cute ha! You stated this perfectly. 🤣
Because people in a lot of places around the United States want a safe stable place to live. As far as beautiful places in the mid west there's nothing more beautiful then the Black Hills area.
The secret is out! Saw some amazing places today out showing. :)
How is SD with ethnic diversity? Acceptance of different or minority race? Sure looks beautiful there and wonderful to hear that folks there are friendly and happy. Aloha!
Well I know it’s a white majority race, but there’s a decently large Native American population here too. Some of the cities have decent Hispanic and Asian populations as well.
@@quillo8404 thanks for the reply!
I have a Japanese wife, so I sometimes feel like it’s a good idea to inquire.

@@Akamai.808 Due to Ellsworth air force base, we do see some ethnicity coming in. There are some fantastic communities in the area. Small percentages compared to us white folk of course! :) I'm sure you will always find some bigotry wherever you go, but generally people from out of state have commented on how nice people are here.
As of December 2021 has there been any lockdowns?
Not state wide ones. In Rapid City we had a mostly large gathering place and restaurant pause for about 45 days in April and May. But everything has been back and running since. Just went to 2 full concerts this Christmas season. 👌💯
We were there September 2021 in RC and everywhere we went we didn't get asked to wear one ever. We had a blast. It was like it was 2019 still. Love that town!

Hi from across the pond! It's amazing to have international watchers. 😍 thank you so much!
No state income tax, but they more than make up for it with super high property taxes and sales taxes. And when you retire with a lower income those high property taxes and sales taxes don’t go away. Oh any if you move there you have to deal the winter. Just go for visit in the summer months.
