well spoken and informative, thank-you. I was wondering, is the new ASOS (from april 22+) any different?

The simulated airfield on the screens is very realistic. Have you thought about upgrading from Windows Vista?

    Questions:
    1) What are the chances of working in the UK’s Space operations centre by having this role?
    2) Is there a high risk or danger level in this role?
    3) What can I do in civilian street with the qualifications I get from this job?
    4) Is there a work life balance? Am I able to pursue my hobbies and part time jobs while I do this full time?
    5) Can I work in the Uk space agency through this job?
    Thank you.

      Hi
As questions 1 and 5 are the same. If you're posted to that section of the trade, then yes. However, you're there to look at protection and security of UK airspace, not looking into other areas. You're there to do a role for the RAF and UK armed forces.
2: If you're operationally deployed it will depend on where you're deployed as to the element of danger. As Air and Space Operations you're likely to be monitoring any operational activity from a long distance, but the trade is varied, so it depends on which role you're doing when deployed.
3: Have you read the full details on the role page on the RAF Recruitment website and investigated what those qualifications will allow you to do in a civilian role?
4: Yes, it's not prison. At the end of your shift you can go home, visit friends/family etc, they can also visit you. There are countless sports, interest groups you can join in the RAF. Have you had a look at ALL of the information on the RAF Recruitment website?

If you can pass the aptitude testing then I would say this is a great trade to choose. It’s a fast track for promotion to Sgt although you do tend to find it take longer to progress past that rank, there are fantastic opportunities for employment in the civilian world after your service career, opportunity to serve all over the country anywhere the airforce has an airfield, and it is highly rewarding and respected. The downsides are it’s incredibly stressful and trade training is long and in the middle of nowhere. P.s I hope he has a med chit for that beard.

Thanks for this. I'm going into this. People seem to post lots of negative stuff about this trade ? Why.

Neil Robinson I’ve not really seen any negativity about ASOS (FO)s, we’re a friendly bunch and our job is rewarding and challenging. Happy to answer any trade specific questions you have

Why do the RAF still plot NOTAMs? This isn’t 1918 anymore. Honestly a new name won’t spruce up this dire trade. When do ya get to see space? Not until you’ve plotted your NOTAMs.
