Hi Vahagn, I am giving serious thought to buying this lens. I also just purchased the Zf and am liking that little guy a lot (with the Small Rig grip. Good to see another lens review by you.
Thank you James. As long as its fun I will be doing it. the moment its no fun, Im out haha. and you know photography video content creation, always a good time. Hope your well.
Love the convince of the freewell filters, but you get vignetting at 14mm on this lens, which does go away by 16mm. I prefer to use a thinner filter that avoids vignetting.
I've had my 14-30mm for probably 2 years now. It's one of my main landscape lenses for waterfalls and scenes where I need wider than 24mm. Hudson Henry did a video comparing the old 14-24mm against this lens and the new 14-24mm. The 14-30mm fits in the middle in terms of sharpness. Plus you have the added advantage of having more IBIS with a massive lens vs an adapted f mount lens. Another benefit is that it has a smaller thread size so you can use a normal size filter. The 14-24mm z lens that's a huge filter. Not only does it cost twice as much as the 14-30mm, you would have to buy a whole new filter setup which will cost you more money. That alone could cost you $500-$1000 extra for filters. I figure if the 14-30mm is sharper than the old f mount 14-24 then it's sharp enough for me. A lot of people made a lot of money off the old 14-24mm.
Hello Vahagn, One thing I am finding with the Z system glass from Nikon. As I have been a Nikon user from the 1970's is these new lenses give give clear and shaper image then Nikon super F mount lenses plus the auto focus is quick and quieter. I now only have 4 F mount lenses that I will replase when the Z version are available. So I do have the 14mm-24mm f2.8 Z mount lense and it is stunning.
Looks awesome, I chose the 16-35 f4 on f mount over the 14-24 for that extra reach on the zoom, plus being an ultra wide I don’t care about dof plus it was VR so low light was sorted, and the best for me it was smaller and way lighter. On the z mount I’ll go for this one when I can afford it for the same reasons, aaaaaaand the price! Also love the song 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you David. yah this 14-30 f4 is the way to go for z mount. i’d skip the 14-24 z just because of price . yes the more expensive zoom doesn’t extend out when you zoom but who cares . it’s more expensive . bigger and heavier. go with 14-30 all day. i had the 16-35 f mount vr and it was a pretty cool lens. i remember buying it used for $350 back in the day.
Great review looks so good ZF really shinning keeping up the focus follow easily , 14 mm on ZF is actually 21mm due to crop factor at 60p but at 24 p is an actual wide 14mm ? great to see how Z6III performs as no crop @ 60P .
I think you still need a good support system. Im holding the camera and lens right on the body and that will still cause shake. A good gimbal or short monopod is needed, and some practice to. The VR does cut out allot of shakes.
Great video, but look at the horrible video warping/wobble in sport, not good! If you are planing any effects that stick in the video shot, this warping will kill you options. Not everyone is going to use their footage for that but I will be investing in a global shutter camera instead of a new lens, I know they're very expensive but nothing like it not having to worry about weird wobbly warping. great camera combo as long as you're not moving.
thanks man, Im no expert in vlogging and 14mm wide video. question , will that issue go away with a gimbal or a more steady support system, My hand is basically holding this camera so you see some shakes.
@@Vahagraphy No problem and seriously great video and that guy did a great job on that song pretty spot on rap lol. this is something that I just came across using my Z6 and a wide angle lens not as good as the one you featuring in your video. nevertheless, any movement with this camera with a rolling shutter is detrimental to what I'm currently working to do. just to give you some insight I had my Z6 on a DJI Ronan S trying to do two different type shot at a car dealership. the first one was simply using the Ronan to go up and down from low ground to above the cars as high as I could reach. the second was putting the gimbal in under slung mode and riding my one wheel on smooth concrete, capturing moving footage as I circled the vehicle. both turned out horrible and trying to un warp the footage only made it slightly better. Using after effects. I've since learned by talking to some of my friends that are very much into shooting professional type video, have told me that if fast pace movement shooting is my thing then a rolling shutter camera is not going to be the answer. The global shutter of a camera like the Z cam G version is just one of a few cameras that have a global shutter and totally kill this issue of warping. his disappointing because I really like the Nikon C6, but I will have to hold that one back for more stable video production. after more investigating, I understand that shooting at 24 frames or 30 frames does not help the issue and its best to shoot higher frame rates like 60 frames If you do have to move quickly while shooting. I am no expert for sure, but I am learning as I go and just wish I would've done more research on the style of shooting versus what cameras are best for that style. also learned that gimbal do not mean stabilization completely. They still translate, shaky movements, for instance, slowly riding my one wheel over concrete and hitting transition between two different pieces of concrete and that small little lip is seen in my footage. I think this is why people develop a very ninja like walk when they're using a gimbal to try to say smooth as possible when walking and obtaining smooth footage. This is a long explanation lol sorry about that.
@@JasonOnStage thanks for that and going into detail. great info here. thanks man. I also think it takes allot of practice to get smooth shots. its not easy and yah, i know that ninja walk. Ive see my videographer friends do that. hehe

Ok so turns out I was using the 9 stop variable Circular Polarizer by freewell instead of the 9 stop ND filter. Believe it or not I caught it after the fact but I had already said ND in this video. Regardless of mistake this CLP its doing aheck of a job cutting light and is also naturally adding some nice color to the video. All videos of the Zf in this review are shot with that filter. the photo stills have no filter. So you can see , yes there is some vignette going on at F/4 because I shot most everything at F/4 with the stills. this lens does vignette ever so slightly wide open but still, I love this lens.
@@VahagraphyJust to make sure, no vignette without any filters on this lens? I take photos underwater so I don't use any filters nor do I want/need any vignetting. I want to make sure that the lens doesn't create any vignetting on its own 🤠
@@BurhanMuntasser Take a look at the video where Im doing the VR on off test. No filter there. Wide open at F4. The clips shot indoor in the bar. I say no vignetting at F4 no filter. Maybe very slightly but you cant see it. YOu wont be pointing it at a sky so you will be fine.
@@Vahagraphy as I remember it it's pretty heavy and cumbersome especialy with the 24_70s. I really need to pack wisely to enjoy using it in the field. Also the shoulder strap is really useful. I mainly use it for b&w. Hope to see more videos on the ZF from you sir
