  • In this video, I shared about my follow up attempt in doing Color reversal printing (RA-4). If you are new to this here is some background information : Usually one use a color negative to print on RA4 paper to produce a color print. In the reversal process, we use the RA4 paper to shoot directly in the large format camera and then reverse process it.
Do watch to the end of the video to see our final results especially how I did a reshoot based on the first shot and how I did the color correction based on the second shot.
Let me know what do you think of this process or if you have any other comments or questions.

The comparisons done were really useful to see how the prints turn out with changes in the variables. Nice work!

thank you for watching. still trying to nail some parts of the process down.

Heyyy, many thanks to answer! Yeah I’m hearing that it’s really mad the process ..Also I’m gonna use with my afghan box . Someone tell me it’s good to have like 10around0 different values of yellow and like 40 of Magenta (like 50,40,20,10,5) to start to play ,do you agree? Regards!

thank you! instant color portraits with the box camera. but the smell of the chemicals is putting me off from trying more with this.

Excellent !! I wonder if the baths (developper, blix) were one use only or reuse ?

Thanks for watching. I reuse both chemicals for the session and discard them after the session. I could not find any information on their capacity but I am seeing like 6 to 8 sheets of 4x5 sheets for about 200ml of chemicals before it seems to get exhausted.

Hi man ! Lovely videos ! I’m gonna start in a weeks to play with Ra4 ..I’m gonna just to made a few questions (hope you know about it ) first of the questions it’s …can you tell me exactly de colors and numbers of every colours that you use for the final print ? And one more questions ..I’m gonna try on direct sun also (and I know I was a have a lot problems with contrast but ) I’m hear that if I’m gonna try with direct sun it’s good to start with an 85B orange filter (and maybe some more ) what do you think ?
Again MANY thanks for the your video ..it’s really helpful for those we are starting !
    Best regards !

the final filter combination is a CTO + 80M and about 95Y. this is in shade. do look through my other videos on RA4 where i shoot outdoor i will use a different combination. it is really hard to pin down to a specific combination. but you should start with a CTO or a 85B and then started to add the magenta and yellow filters as you test. Different papers and chemcials may react differently too. have fun!

Hey many many many many really thanks for your time answer and also for all your videos ,it’s nice when someone put videos in the way of experimenting ! Just some few questions … 😂🤦🏾
1-If don’t understand wrong CTO filter (it’s first time I hear about that ) it’s same to start with an 85B filter (other people use that ).
2-Second one it’s the OO from the Kit for example of Multigrade B&w Kit filters?
3- The magenta and yellow filters thee are also from multigrade Ilford Kit for example ?
4- if this is on shadow ..do you think that if I try on direct SO PoWERFULL SUN I need to increase the value of the filters or decreasing value of filters ? Or the power of the light doesn’t matter for the value of the filters? I’m lost….
5-Did you develope inside whit chemicals in a “normal temperature” or you increase the temperature also the first part of the dev?
6- Did you try to made the second part of the development with “normal/ambient “temperature? Because I heard some guy explaining there it’s not really important and that he don’t see big diferentes if you try with the temperature for example of …20•…
Hope you has time to answer my questions 😂😂😂.
      Thanks a lot again !

Last one …I see your other videos but I’m lost…whit how combinations of filters do you recommend me to “start” if I’m gonna try portraits on shadow? I know it’s depends of a lot of things but…I’m your opinion what’s the amount of filters and value that you recommend to start to try with portraits and on shadow? 👋🏽🤦🏾🔥

@@maxiortelli5015 haa that a lot of questions but i can understand why. this is a process that doing it rather than reading it will helps. i will be brief in my answers though.
      1. CTO, i am using Lee filter 204 sheet. it is orange so similar to 85B. so get either one and experiment from there. I am using CTO because I happen to have it so I do not need to buy a 85B.
      2. yes the one from ilford. probably shown in my earlier video so i did not repeat again.
      3. Arista RA-4 Color Filters. get from freestyle photography
      4. again, try shooting it instead of trying to theorize it. in a nutshell, you can try to start with CT0, 00, 50m and 50Y first and shoot a test sheet and see. if too blue u add more magenta and yellow. how much to add or to add M or Y u have to test it.
      5. I develop at around 28 to 30C ambient temperature. You can develop wherever you are and do a test sheet and adjust filter accordingly (step 4)
      6. see pt 5
