    Liked this episode for two reasons. One, that they paid for the rhystic study. Two, that ONCE AGAIN this dispelled the idea that somehow Commander has been ‘ruined’ by new cards. The exact same issues existed in “Pre-Commander” that exist now, and anything claiming otherwise is just revisionist nostalgia.

    • @ohyea456
      @ohyea456 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, it's all a matter of the power level of the individual cards you're selecting to put into your deck. "Overpowered" decks have always existed. However, there is truth in that the longer the game makes new cards, the quantity of "overpowered" cards only increases, thus making the "problem" worse in the long run.
      That's why I play both cEDH and casual. The two formats have very different social rules around what is and is not okay to put into your deck. Both offer their own rewards for playing them. The difficult part is the line everyone draws between the two formats is different for each person. Mismatches are bound to happen.

    You can't use creatures that search for lands to set up the top of the deck for momir vig since momir vig is a cast trigger to search and the wood elves and such are an ETB. Corey did it twice. Reading the card explains the card.

      I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that when Stephen held Corey's cards up to the camera. I think it was more of a case where Corey didn't realize that it would end the game on the spot because he's not familiar with as many cards as the rest of the table. I don't think he was purposefully extending the game.

      55:53 It was a save for sure. They played it this way before. I remember a game where Jon was the beneficiary as Jon saved Wes(maybe Stephen) from a Justin alpha strike, then killed the table immediately after on the stack. This was way back before the "save" rule was changed to only one time per player. Gosh back then it was just smart to play spore frog loop or constant mists to farm points. All the times Cory cadt something like Wood elfs and stacksd yhe teiggers to get a forest and put a creature on top doesnt work cause you have to resolve the creature tutor first.
    This didnt really have a big effect on this game, corey already had a ton of mana and most of the ETBs are may triggers ,so he could have just ignored them when fetchig the creature he needed, but its still good to know.

    Example:
    P1 casts craterhoof
    P2 plays teferi's protection but on the stack casts a fog because they were safe anyways
    did P2 save P3 and or P4?
    Example:
    P1 plays torment of hailfire
    P2 has platinum angel attempts to cast a counter to save P3
    P1 swings for lethal on P3
    did P1 save P3? or does them not untapping negate the initial save?

    To Jon, Stephen, and Jeremy: Either give Corey a reality check on humbleness or replace him. This was by far the most over the top (in a negative way) that Corey has been. That is including the episode he ran Yorion when his attitude skyrocketed. Good guy or not, this is NOT how you win fans over and give them the inclination to want to come back for more content. This is one of the BEST commander TH-cam shows. Don't hit the bottom of the well with Corey's antics. He will be your ultimate demise. I know not having Justin there is a thing, but at least in his own way, he was entertaining to watch, especially his banter with Stephen. What Corey is doing is pure lunacy, and not in a good way. If he continues, then the only thing I will watch is the intro (bravo Jeremy) and skip to the end to see who won and the points update. Can't endure the gameplay due to you know who.

    • @nomizak
      @nomizak ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nah Corey is fine. I mean he was upfront with his removal. They chose violence so he made good on his threat. Where is the hate for Stephen pathing the fyndhorn Elves just so Corey couldn't get first blood? Corey was just hamming things up. Yall taking this way too serious. Jonathan gets so salty sometimes too. That's worse imo than Corey's antics. I mean getting killed just so your It That Betrays goes away? That's a bit petty too. Also Corey is a million times better than Justin. Sorry, not sorry. He was too rules lawyery. No fun could be had while he was around.

    • @moldytaters4190
      @moldytaters4190 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Tom Anderson Corey being fine? So being super petty and acting high and mighty is fine? Corey constantly plays a higher power than the rest of the table, or plays control. Either of which isn't good for the sake of the show when it happens 8/10 times.
      Stephen pathing Fyndhorn Elves was in retaliation of his creature being stolen, which was fair. Then Corey starts his ego train because he's ahead of everyone else. Jon also made a good point to get rid of the It that Betrays because it would've helped the other two at LEAST catch up even remotely.
      Also piss off about Justin, he wasn't a rules lawyer in a bad way. He was way more fun to watch than Corey. Justin isn't constantly loud, obnoxious, and hardly made extremely petty plays for the sake of being petty.

    • @Cynidecia

      PreDH is The format that lets you play the big dumb cards you wouldn't run in a deck today. Stuff like Solemn Simulacrum, Plague wind, Pestilence Demon Reya Dawnbringer etc. It also is much slower than regular EDH, as well as a limited card pool (and very limited Enemy color generals) means certain stuff is underrepresented. For example, There are only 2 legal Simic generals, Experiment Kraj and Momir Vig. There are only 6 legal enemy Tri colored generals, the 5 Planar Chaos Dragons and Doran the siege tower. It's understandable it's limiting for certain preferences, no arguing that, though it can be fun for people who choose to pick those limited options, as they have to put in more effort in deck construction and feel more rewarded for doing so (aka how are you going to build Intet the Dreamer uniquely rather than just picking a RUG commander and building a checklist of edhrec suggestions.)

      This was one of the rare cases where Corey did made a play solely for the point, something that he should be doing.

  • @FriendlyNewt
    @FriendlyNewt ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This was the most fun episode in a long time. Not for you three of course. Corey you're a bad winner and the obvious netdecking is pretty painful, one blue/green card with synergy with your commander, pretty much just goodstuff. Curious to see how many points you lost. We've learned a lot about commander in the last 11 years and it didn't seem like you applied the new philosophy to your deck construction, more removal. It didn't help that Jeremy didn't draw an enchantress and stephen wasted his removal. John was pretty much locked into his deck style so that's fine. This was fun again. I've been thinking about how so many cards are rule 0ed out and how the commander format is still getting faster and less casual in general. I feel like it's time for a new format and I'm hoping you guys will introduce me to it.

  • @dragonreaper9288

    I'm not watching the rest of the episode I'm sad to say. Back to hating Corey again for his attitude and play style. I'm sure he's a nice guy and I'd get along with him fine. Haaaaate how he plays. Every episode feels like Archenemy against Corey EXACTLY because of how he plays. He's the smuggest of the smug. I just want to punch his face everytime he laughs. NGL the only reason I'd watch is to hope he has a bad game. It might be time to say goodbye to Commander VS if I can't get over this. It's a game and I shouldn't get worked up over it like this over the person playing it.

    • @moldytaters4190
      @moldytaters4190 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a bit extreme there, I don't like Correru for the same reasons but damn that's harsh.
      Corey does play like an asshole, 8/10 times he plays another control deck with a different face. It's stale to watch. Ive watched these guys since Justin and Stephe days, and I've also contemplated not watching anymore. They need to find a house ban or Corey really needs to switch up his playstyle/attitude. There's ways to fix it, let's just not resort to violence.
