Nice choice of subject, the Unimog deserves more attention as it is really an incredible vehicle and gives us modellers so many ways to build and depict it in various scenarios.
Since i have built various models set in and around former Rhodesia over the past years and doing a considerable amount of reading and research on the topic as a whole on the side, i´d like to point out that your notion of that conflict is a bit off. I suggest to have a peek at the lovely booklet "Bush War Rhodesia" by Peter Baxter from the "Africa@War" Series. It is a handy introduction and the photos in there can be inspirational for any scalemodeller, who is curious about the topic. It might lead to more Rhodesian army models on your channel, at least i hope that! Cheers.

The kit is gorgeous! I drove the successor model in the Bundeswehr. That was always a lot of fun, especially in rough terrain! Very cool idea for a diorama! I wish you a lot of fun with your further work! See you soon, John

I like the kit and the Rhodesian theme. Just started to build my own one. But the kit represents the 404 version of the Unimog. The Rhodesian army uses the 406 version. Quite different. So you have 2 options: You go through an pretty extensive conversion of the kit. Or you go the easy way and assume it's a booty truck from a Rhodesian raid in Mozambique. The FRELIMO in Mozambique pressed ex Portugese army trucks of this type into their service. It's not impossible that one of them ended up in Rhodesian service. 😉

Looks like the version you have chosen with the yellow and red chevron (front and back) has been modelled around the Rhodesian Armoured Corps, nicknamed the "Black Devils"

Great series of videos Rick. Quick question, what ratio did you mix the 3 colours for the base coat on the Unimog ? I’m looking to build the new Airfix Ferret in Rhodesian colours.

However, I don't know if you realized, but the photo at 06:50 shows a Portuguese Army vehicle in one of the three African theatres of war where Portugal fought between 1961 and 1974 (Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique).
Besides, the same happens at 07:32, where we see Portuguese paratroopers upon a Unimog S404.
Alexandre, yes, I have been made aware of the Portuguese as shown in the photo. This is a subject that I am not familiar, and so it's nice that people like yourself bring things to my attention.

They are great. This particular set from AK has chrome, bronze, copper & old bronze colors.

Looking at your “trigger finger” working the airbrush have you preset the paint flow with the air pressure…??
No, the pressure from the compressor is at about 22-25 psi (I really don't pay much attention), and then it's all about the feel of the paint as it shoots from the brush. I don't have any presets, or paint thinning ratios, or anything like that. I guess that I've been doing this for long enough that I can go by look and feel.

Yes, the sprues are marked with ICM along with upgrades and instructions from AK
So, is this ICM kit with new decals and some additional stuff?
I imagine that is the case. The sprues do have the ICM logo on them, the instructions and added parts are AK

The Unimog is so ugly it's kind of cute. I might just have to pick up this kit. Did you notice the 3D frame around the MG would make a table with the legs cut down for a diorama?

@@RickLawlerPropaganda If you're curious to learn more rick, theres a rly good podcast called "Well there's your problem" that cover engineering disasters, and funnily enough they did an episode on rhodesia and the lead up to the conflict, also talked about the Dam that Rhodesia constructed over the Zambize that's is now kinda crumbling.
@@kosmokat111 it's a model of a truck, not a political statement. Building a Tiger tank doesn't confer fascism on the builder. Until and unless Rick somehow espouses love for the Rhodesian state your comment is unwarranted. If you don't want to be subjected to this build your able to scroll by it.
Nice kit.. it would be nice to see some other Rhodesian MAP vehicles in 1/35 like the crocodile and MAP 4.5 and 7.5
