How Hollywood Makes Characters Walk On Walls | Movies Insider

- Many movies, TV shows, and music videos have called for surreal sequences where the characters are thrown into zero gravity as the room they’re in starts to move around them, thus finding themselves walking on the walls and ceilings. It started when Fred Astaire danced on all corners of a room in 1951's “Royal Wedding.” A rotating set with a fixed camera attached allowed the actor to dance with no gravity while still keeping his feet to the ground. This technique was applied in similar ways in movies like “Poltergeist” and “High School Musical 3,” as well as music videos like Lionel Richie’s “Dancing on the Ceiling” and Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left to Cry.” Movies like “Inception” innovated by allowing its actors to fight in a rotating hallway with multiple cameras capturing the action. In 2019, the pilot episode of HBO’s “Euphoria” used a revolving set to allow its main character, played by Zendaya, to walk on walls. VFX supervisors David Van Dyke and Nhat Phong Tran of Pixomondo told us how the show used everything from motion-control cameras to visual effects to create a scene with not one, but two centers of gravity.

How Hollywood Makes Characters Walk On Walls | Movies Insider - บันเทิง
“Fred danced on walls so Zendaya could stumble on them” why does that sound like a burn 😂
"FRED WALKED SO ZENDAYA COULD RUN!!!!" vibes
Fr tho
Imagine lots and lots of hours poured into that short length of a scene
XD imagine claymation
It's like people who spend a whole week to digitally create an image most people wont look at for more than a couple of seconds. Perfection takes time, you just gotta decide what's worth it to you. (Drawing certainly wasn't for me haha)
I've worked on TV and movie shoots as a lighting tech. I've spent hours or even days shooting what amounts to 3-60 seconds of actual footage in the final cut. Some days it's amazing and very rewarding other days it's directors spending too much money for what amounts to a minuscule amount of the final product.
filmmaking is hella hard
Imagine having to go through all the trouble just for the area in the movie to explode
im just shocked that how rich hollywood is.
I hope your joking
Hollywood isn't a single entity man, it's a nickname for a regional industry
Lexi Rockliffe yea no shit
@@mymusicacc5359 everything ok at home dude?
I’m shocked how much debt the US is in so
I swear they have released this video on so many different t channels with the same info lmao

The best line!

Europhia has great cinematography and is a huge part of why the show works
Sometimes TH-cam is like Hollywood cinema. One video gets released and others showing the same thing get released around the same time too. It's like the writers all have a common workshop or something.
Just watched the movie "Lucy" for film class, and came right back to this video to prove that one of the scenes in this movie contained the rotation of the room and fixation of the camera to achieve the full effect of the scene! So cool that watching this randomly one day out of boredom could be one of my supporting points for a college class.
I always wanted to do that, ever since I watched high school musical 3 as a kid
That’s why I came to watch this video cause of Hsm 3 😂
6:20 not TWO centers of gravity but actually two directions. That is not what center of gravity means.
Perfect now i can wide walk sideways
The biggest issue of this project was the smoke. Smoke still follows the density laws.
Magnet shoes, ez
You not verified you know that
FirName he doesnt realize that yet
0:19 They Mentioned That
This is way more work than I thought. Dannggg
I'm suddenly disappointed but also impressed at the same time.
i see y'all ignoring high school musical 3
I WAS WONDERING WHAT THEY DID IN A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET!
It’s my favourite movie btw
2:39 When i see Tech like this in movies ahead of its time, It convinces me that the Government had that technology already and we are finally now getting it. Imagine all the Tech they haven't release to the public yet.
why woulthey need a rotating room lmao
@@LuisBiondi moon landing duh
This is incredible 😍
It reminds me of No Tears Left To Cry
Dancing on the Ceiling actually used three sets. One set was the right way up, the second was identical to the first but upside down, and the third set could rotate. There is a moment in the video where within a single shot a person goes from standing upright in one set to seemingly flipping upside down to stand on the ceiling. What they did to pull it off was to have the person upside on wires on the ceiling of the upside down set, then they would flip while being lowered on the cables onto the floor of that set. So they used more than just an upside down set to film the Dancing on the Ceiling music video.
Inception in one word: a clusterfuck
Fascinating
This is probably my favorite film technique ngl. 2001 Bowmans Jog
Life is too short to hide your feelings. Don’t be afraid to say what you feel.

AWESOME
You don't need all these if you actually consume drugs

The phantom scene with Zohan is the best
Is anyone going to address the cigarette smoke "falling" towards the "floor" in Euphoria ( 06:15 )?
This is just 🔁↗️➡️⬇️⬅️⬆️🔃🔄
Respect for post. Even Keying is difficult.
Huh, re-upload. For a while I thought this was yet another instance of the duplicate topics between Insider, Wired, Vanity Fair, GQ...
Yeah just spin the whole set

I have seen this in the BTS of The Amazing Spider-Man !!!🔥
so cool
So expensive. Some blotter and a great film!
Never knew that thx
OMG 😮😮😮😮😮
So great
Wow 🤩
Now please tell us how Jamaroqui did Virtual Insanity music video set design?
It's sort of similar, but done horizontally. The camera is fixed along with the walls. That whole unit moves, creating the illusion of not moving.
Couldn't do a video like this without bringing up inception
Interesting. Have a blessed day
RE UPLOAD????
Its the guy that talks about the military 🤣👏👏👏
I thought this was already posted
It is on movie insider if I am not wrong
I'm confused as why "Nsync - Bye Bye Bye" wasn't featured in this video at all. That video blew my mind as a kid.
Joseph Gordon Levitt-ate , haha
so they had to build another set that did not move, and then had to build a doors that would split so the camera could fit though and then had to build another set attached to that set, all for a little scene in a TV show that i have never watched.
Wow
I like how high school musical was the second one listed lmao
Damn this maths is EVERYWHERE!!
COOL
