I'd like to further this statement. In December of 2020 I entered a recovery program. I had an alcohol and drug problem. I'd been served divorce papers and had lost my second job in six months. As I labored to regain my sobriety, I knew I could count on this channel to post a video every Monday morning. It gave me something to look forward to. Believe me when I tell you, it was a hard recovery and sometimes it still is. But as I continue on in my sobriety, I know I still got ol Mortske Repair to look forward to every Monday at about 8am. Thank you Mortske and Duff.

Hi Mort. About 7 yrs ago I tried to build a rat rod. Started with 2 rusty, gutted, nasty '50 F-1 rollers. Took parts of both roofs to make one cab with a SIX INCH CHOP! And my 5'11 frame and big belly still fit comfortably on the factory seat, behind the factory wheel! Coolest lawn decoration you ever saw! 😂
He’s good but have you ever really sat down, watched and listened to the Duff Dog? He’s a very wise, old soul with a desire to learn, discover and unearth creatures of all kinds from today or a half century in the past, dead or alive, who inhabit Mortske’s yard ornaments 😆
That thing is super super nice for its age, looks dang near 100% original interior. Looks like it even had a radio! Put in a few days of wrenching on the clutch (maybe not so bad of a job) and the brakes (definitely a bad job), carb kit, points & condenser. The way it runs already you can probably just get a modern 8 volt battery and it will be fine. Throw a bunch of horse blankets on those crunchy seats, pressure wash it, and brillo the glass. I know you're selling this one but man, Red Ed is a damn nice rig, especially since it doesnt have 50 years of farm engineering on it, except maybe that starter "adjustment."
You certainly couldn't let today's cars sit that long and expect them to start as easily as this one did. They truly built things to last back in the day!! Good to see another one saved. Glad you didn't have to adjust any valves on this either. But you did get to pull the starter. Duff is liking the old-style bench seat in this model. Thanks as always for keeping us entertained. Waiting till next week.
I doubt you could get one to start AT ALL, nevermind this easily. I speak from first-hand experience when I say just a year long hibernation is enough to totally destroy a modern engine with its razor blade thin low-tension piston rings. That happened to the 4.6 V8 in my '99 Crown Vic P71. I parked it to save up for new injectors in running order, but when I got the new injectors in it and took it for a test drive it burned 2-3 quarts of oil in just a quarter of a mile while running on seven and ejecting the dipstick from the tube. Meanwhile, Mortske has resurrected a flathead V8 that was so badly stuck he had to beat the everloving fuck out of the piston DIRECTLY while scorching it to hell and back to get it freed off; when that engine started it only smoked for the time it took to burn off the oil in the cylinders. Hit on all 8. Sounded mean. Part of why I'm gunnin' for a flathead myself. Trade my 14 Challenger for a Ford sedan with that engine in it.
Brings back fond memories of working on these beauties when we lived on the farm back in the mid 80's. As always, another quality episode! Thanks to you and Chin for all the hard work!
Wow the old flatty came around pretty good, no smoke or strange noises, been quite awhile since you did any stuck valve beating scenes. Old Duff really digs those old Ford trucks, he looks right at home hanging out on the passenger side of the cab.
Hey Mortske: Nice '51 F4 (Found On the Road Dead) grain rig you found there... (Looks like the classic Sanford and Son truck from the series) and it looked like it didn't take much to get it running again and it looked very well preserved... Looks like another Duff approved big rig!!! From the home of PB Blaster.... Cleveland, Ohio
That Ford (fix or repair daily) belongs be in a museum , It has a few issues but DANG!! the lack of rust and real 25 year old tires have to count for three out of five stars. I laughed my self to tears , until it started up, no stuck valves and the clutch stuck to the flywheel, I could go all night about that truck ( I have a soft spot in my heart for 51's. A big thank you for your humor and patience...Stu in Canada........
We were grain farmers in Eastern Washington in the 1980's and 1990's. The elevator we hauled to still had the old overhead truck lift for those trucks that didn't have a hoist back in the day. It could still operate. It had wheel cradles you drove the front wheels onto. Nobody was allowed in the truck during operation. Driver set the brake, put it in low gear, turn off engine and the overhead lift did the rest. The elevator operator said they kept it operable in case a truck came in that the hoist broke down so they could still dump the truck. That Ford is a nice piece of history. Hope someone wants the whole thing.
The only issue the 12 volt battery will give you is the radio. It won't like the 12 volts. Light bulbs can be changed. Swapping the 6 volt generator and regulator is not hard to do. The starter will get a bit hotter if it cranks a bit too long, but with the 12volts spinning the engine over faster will start the engine quicker. Swapping the coil for 12 volt coil or adding a ballast resistor in the power feed to the coil. I'm sure Mortske knows all these things and a few I missed. Just wanted to say this so others might learn.
My family on MOM's side had a trucking co. Hauled milk and later beer. They had the old makes of diesels such as Diamond Rio, Mack, International, etc. They for some reason didn't like Fords. But there was one with a flat head engine that sat parked most of the time. When one of the favorite trucks broke down or needed service guess which truck came to the rescue. Yep, The Dually Ford with the Flat Head that never failed. It pulled every thing the others could and as far as I remember even without it's proper maintenance was there to perform the rescue. Thanks for reviving at lot of good memories.
Funny , that tank brings back memories of a one gallon Castrol oil can , tied on the back with the fuel pipe braized on the bottom and a gravity feed. Lovely truck
I love this video because i have a 1951 Ford Mercury M1 which has been passed down through our family since new! We took it out and restored it back to its former glory a few years back, best thing we ever did. I sure love to hear that flat head 8 purr.

Love the old Ford. My Dad worked on many of these old trucks. He'd actually sit inside the engine compartment rather than pull the motor to work on them. Great memories from the 50s. I hope it sells as is. I'd hate to see you part it out. It's a solid vehicle. A true barn find!
You show me an engine, Ford, GM or Mopar, I wouldn't be able to see the difference. All the same to me. Shows you how much I know. But I love your channel Mortske. Addicted.
