    This is definitely a tough progression to play on guitar but I promise that learning chords like these will make you a much better guitarist and will help to craft your own sound on the instrument. This play along is phenomenal! Great job and thank you!

      Some songs have so many different or unusual chord voicings that it just makes a lot more sense to look it up than try and learn it by ear regardless of how advanced you may be at guitar IMO.

    • @joelglanton6531
      @joelglanton6531 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dongkumong Even if you have the ear for figuring out a bunch of specific and rarely-used voicings, it's a lot easier to just look it up, as I said before. The original commenter may very well be an advanced guitarist and still unable to figure out a specific chord or two for the life of him. You're obviously not a very advanced musician in any capacity.

    I absolutely love this format-the chord diagrams to play along with the song. So much better than other lessons on youtube where the person shows you the chord without the diagram. It's often not that easy to see what's being played with that. This is great!

      @jonathaneli9901  6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Thanks for your comment. Thats exactly how I feel about this format. I was always annoyed by the talking and explaining from youtube guitar teachers. I mean if i want to play a Steely Dan song and I need someone to tell me where i have to put my fingers one-by-one on every chord, then i probably should play something easier.

    A delicious Chord Salad. Great job. Thank You! Especially for the Chord Diagrams! Thinking about how the song structure is supported by the use of such colorful flavors, all I can come up with is: "Pairings". The chords function in pairs, almost everywhere except the descending passage leading to the chorus. It's a good challenge.

    Absolutely superb. Couldn't have done it without this. I play a couple of voicings differently and pluck 4 or 5 strings each time instead of strumming but I am so grateful for the thought and effort you've put into this, having the chords up there without the 'now put your pinkie on the 8th fret of the B string, your middle finger on the' . . . etc. Brilliant.

    THANK YOU!!! Steely Dan is one of my all time favorite bands - and Larry Carlton was simply a god on guitar during the 1970's ... I used to know how to get through this song well enough - probably 75% on target and 25% close enough ... But you really nail it with super precision and have helped me get back into this old favorite. I have a couple chords have clip / pare down to size - maybe take out on super stretched finger - but only on two chords. Again - THANK YOU!!!

    then it hits me bottom part of chord written first and #9 or 13 or b13 on top which would be 1st or 2nd strings depending if the root is on 6th strting or 5th. Im way deep in this one and This shows how to walk down 13 chords or modulate all through them cause it always sounds right the tempo is kicking my ass though sheesh just a few hundred chords to remember no biggie .... robbieman23 Relax your hand and slowly form the next chord. If you are just a little tensed it makes changing creative chords is hard. Practice at 58% speed and teach your hand muscle memory. I have to sing and play this song so my guitar has to be on auto pilot as it hard for me to sing and takes more effort. Relax and learn it at 58% speed and speed it up, I do over a doxen Steely Dan songs and just got to a place I am not learning new chords on every song. I study the Larry Carlton songs and play on a 335 and the Jeff Baxter and Becker I play a Strat. Once you learn this song, regardless of how long it takes, you will be a better, happier guitarist. if this don't work I will give you all your money back. Hehe. Good luck!

    I apologize for being a "Johnny come lately" but I just happened to stumble upon your video and decided to have a look/listen.

    Man. I've been working on these old Steely Dan songs. You've helped me a great deal to correct some mistakes I was making. Would love to see you play "The Great Pagoda of Funn" from Donald Fagen's album "Morph the Cat"

    Awesome. Thanks for this and Black Cow too. I never expected playing accompaniment to sax solos could be so satisfying.
