A few terms I’ve picked up during the nearly 2 years I’ve been in the fandom Rudderbutt (otter) Yeen (hyaena) Yote (coyote) Wuff (wolf) Doggo (dog, sometimes puppy) Pupper (dog, puppy) AWD (abbreviation: African Wild Dog) Coywolf (coyote-wolf hybrid) Folf (fox-wolf hybrid) Zoosona (Zootopia-style fursona)
Pretty good vid! But one quick animal science note, digitigrade legs do not refer to the knees "bending backwards" Digitigrade legs are actually more like a "regular" or "plantigrade" legs but typically with shorter femur and tibia/fibula and an elongated foot, wherein the creature walks on its toes. That backwards "Knee" is actually just the heel of the foot. So, a digitrage leg in nature would be like the back legs of a dog or cat, plantigrade, humans or bears etc. If you want to look at what legs look like with actual backwards knees, check out creatures like the bat (especially evident in vampire bats when they walk/hop on the ground"
Forgotten definitions: Youngfur- a teen or child furry Newfur- a person new to the furry fandom. Snuggle- * :3- used as an online greeting between furries in some instances. Furson- sometimes used to mention another furry in place of person. *(I can't find a definite definition. Anyone got any thing?)
Brilliant definitions! Very well done. I've one minor niggle, though. I've never seen it spelt "mundain." I've only seen it spelt "mundane." This is could be something new that I hadn't heard of yet, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case. ("Mundane" is originally a "fanspeak" term, BTW, ie. taken from Science Fiction fandom. Originally it was meant to describe people from outside their fandom who looked down on them and made fun of them. As SF became more popular however and fewer people made fun of "that crazy Buck Rogers stuff," the meaning of "mundane" shifted. It now merely means somebody who is not a part of the fandom. It no longer has a pejorative implication, unless you're a troll.)
i love being apart of new family, can’t wait to touch each other’s fur suits and fur con 2018! love ya!! i’m a new fur someone be an inspiration for me! i started off watching ru-pauls drag race and i’m happy i’ve gotten so far into the industry!
To be honest I'd heard a few of these terms in context of the general Sci-Fi/Fantasy fandom communities, like mundane, con-crud, post-con depression, etc, in the mid to late '90s.
I know one for a fantasy term is "merfur" ( mer as in mermaid or merman and fur as in well furry) it can mean two things: just like centaur or taur merfur means an creature of an upper body of an anthro wolf or fox while the lower body is a fish or whale or dolphin just and base off a mermaid if your an upper body of a wolf or a lower body of a fish you could call it an "merwolf" or a fox mermaid as a "merfox" you name it. An merfur also means an furry that's also interested in mermaids and merfolk a and those that own mermaid costumes for swimming if you still don't know what a merfur looks like here's a link to one www.furaffinity.net/view/19497079/
You've left the 'e' off of the end of 'kitsune', which is appropriate fro English words but usually not Japanese ones. Kitsune is pronounced key-tsoo-nay. Ki-tsu-ne, not ki-tsu-n. I'm genuinely surprised that only one other person has corrected you on this!
It's true that the chimera is an animal hybrid from myth, but the modern definition has been expanded to include any animal hybrid. Primarily thanks to the manga/anime Fullmetal Alchemist!
The word "yiff" at start means greeting that fox says (it's true, real feral foxes says to other foxes they meet) and furrys said it instead of "hai"/"yarf!". but humans give the other meaning. And it's sad :(
I think bronies and pegasisters are a part of post-furries, but in ways you might not think about. Bronies and pegasisters are post-furries by values rather than aesthetics. The fandoms most prominent feature is the inclusion of feminism and social justice into the furry fandom.
If I may correct a couple of definitions, therianthropy is identifying as a non-human animal on a non-physical level (either spiritually or psychological). Having a totem or spiritual connection doesn't make someone a therian. Species dysphoria is kinda transphobic (because a lot of people who use the term compare it to being transgender when they aren't even trans themselves, in my opinion "species dysphoria" isn't real at all) and it honestly needs another name. All of the people I met who claimed to have species dysphoria were actually upset with being physically human, not so much them not liking their fursona species (which can be changed)/theriotype (which cannot be changed). Source: Me, a therian involved in the therian community for 5 years now.
+Whimsy The Jackalope I feel you've used the term "transphobic" too lightly here. The term "species dysphoria" (also "species identity disorder") is not transphobic, and can not be transphobic- transphobia being feelings or expression of hate or intolerance of trans people. The parallel that's drawn between species dysphoria and gender dysphoria is completely fair, as both are a sense or feeling of unease at the state/appearance of one's own body. One referring to feeling of unease about one's natural species and the other referring to feelings of unease about one's natural gender. Your opinion doesn't change the fact that rare individuals legitimately feel as though their body is wrong somehow, and that they believe they would be more comfortable in the body of a non-human animal. This may be the result of poor proprioception, body image, or feelings of severe social ostracization, making the individual feel as though they do not belong to the human species and instead belong to another. Therefor species dysphoria is an incredibly accurate term without room for changes- for the time being.
I knew the 85% of those words before joining the fandom. (Cuz I did 3 months of research before joining just to make sure that all those rumors weren't true :P )
6:03 ಠ_ಠ *ThisIsNotHowKitsuneIsPronouncedMyDude* ... oh, sorry, i just.... yeah i do that when someone pronounces kitsune wrong. no matter who, no matter when, no matter why. i just have to point it out. idk y, it annoys me for some reason.
+Culturally F'd Telling me to use it with furries only and being weird is exactly how I feel (I have autism) BTW its hooman I like ferals the most much more than anthro that's for sure. sex/sexuality makes everything complicated. There's something about ferals that is so... Maybe its a dragon thing. I mean think about how many times you heard the term "...like and animal" I guess that's what my sexuality thinks, like why not??? Whats amusing is that were ALL animals. Most importantly; reptiles ftw!
Not sure about you all but Con-Crud made me pause the video and look around my room in disgust as if people could see the look of disgust on my face. That is grosssss
Your definition of "otherkin" is too narrow. Otherkin are folks who identify as any non-human thing. Elves, fairies, dragons, trees. Therians are a subcategory of Otherkin who specifically identify as extant animals, wolves, crows, cats. I'm not sure where extinct animals lie within those definitions. I feel it would be fair to include them in the Therian category.

Brody Steele Someone did their homework.
Oh my god, I'd never heard the term 'fursuit salsa' before.. Yum
I almost can't believe it's real, but I guess drinking could play a part.

how long does one remain a newfur?
"Fursuit Salsa" sounds sounds like it came along when some furries were drunk.

I was wondering, how come I'm not credited as doing the theme in the newer episodes? I'm not in the description or the credits anymore. =c
+Khord Kitty Shucks, it's just because I'm bad at credits. I'll update the description for older episodes and make sure moving forward its included.
thx! Sorry if im being annoying. Keep up the great work =D
+Khord Kitty A perfectly reasonable request considering the music was made for free. Thanks so much for letting us use your other music too.
+Culturally F'd What happen to episode 19???
+Chad “Artifical Bio-Furry Lord” Robert It's a playlist! th-cam.com/video/ZIqxBEtjvOo/w-d-xo.html
It should be noted that the otherkin definition in this video is a separate definition from the "tumblr" use of otherkin.

I may be mistaken, but I believe glomp is used a lot in the anime fandom.

+King Furry IT'S ALWAYS LIKE THAT!

Same.
"Technically, we're all half centuar..."

That's why Furry subculture with own ideology is unique! 🐾
It's true that the chimera is an animal hybrid from myth, but the modern definition has been expanded to include any animal hybrid. Primarily thanks to the manga/anime Fullmetal Alchemist!
you like Fullmetal Alchemist?
Acid cat
...yes. A lot. It's my favorite.
Female brony and furry right here! I dislike the term pegasister.
Agree. Bro is a gender-neutral term, bony should be too.
@@criesincowboy9629 I totally agree. Pegasister just sounds dumb and half-assed
5:54 is that you Harambe?
5:11 you forgot Hooman
I see you have Maus on your shelf, nice.
I got more than half of this. Help me...
Yiff or gif?
Oh, wrong discussion.

I honestly disagree with the fact that Bronies/Pegasisters are associated/related with furries.
i've heard glomp before
Another interesting detail in Furry Internet culture is the development of what one might call "*furmoticons*": say, *:3*, *=^.^=*, etc....... 7@=e
