I have an oil catch can on my Tacoma. After the oil change, the catch can did it's purpose respectfully. Had more then half in the can. Got mine off of Amazon for $30. Got better gas mileage for some reason (I'm not a mechanic enthusiast) so yeah definitely saved me money for constant trips to gas stations.
Suggestion: weigh the empty catch can. Then when you take it off like you just did, you can put it on the scale and you’ll know how much you captured. Based on the weight. Then you’ll know how many miles you have, and you can actually calculate how many grams Of oil you’re catching per 50 miles per hundred miles even per mile. And by doing that, you should be able to help, keep an eye on your engine health. Because if it increases you know you’re getting more blow by , on your piston rings. And you also have an idea accurately when you need to empty that.
Awesome suggestion so far I feel it's only really important to check it approx 3000 miles anything more than that is just plain negligence though the winter is coming and these will be completely different driving conditions. I will keep an eye out for sure and most likely make a video of side by side winter and summer catch can results
My man I just yesterday made the mistake of not checking in 2500 miles and it was full and leaking back out of the pcv valve. So I'd say in the winter check it every 1500 miles and adjust from there as for summer since it didn't have nearly as much I'd say once every 2500 miles 😉 I got another video coming on 6 months 5000 miles in winter and wow is there a difference in the amounts!! Probably so much more condensation.

I got about 700 miles to go to meet the 5000 mile oil change interval and once I'm done with the video I will upload it.
