  • I get this question a lot. I mean, almost more then any other question. How much does it actually cost to ride the Ninja 300. Well, here in this rather long video, I walk you through, step by step, to fins out how much it costs to ride a motorcycle vs a car.

    An $800 maintenance charge on a $5000 vehicle seems like highway robbery
    to me, and I live in expensive northern NJ. That is 10 hours labor at
    $80/hr. My 600mi (1st) service was $173 on my 2016 CBR500R. Your guy
    must have the same hourly charge as a brain surgeon. I'd say shop
    around, or take a motorcycle mechanic class

    Let me tell you guy the True of the cost for a real beginner motorcyclist living in Melbourne, Australia for 4 months.
    Reached 6000km
    ...
    A new bike: CBR650R (Lams Approved): $13400 Australian dollars (Drive away- including Tax, Road worthy, Rego)
    License test from Learner to Full license around: $1100
    ...
    Gears:
    - 1st Helmet: $179
    - 2nd Helmet (HJC) RPHA 11 - (Superman edition): $849
    - 3rd Helmet (X-lite) 803 Rs (50th year edition): $999
    - Dainese Jacket racing 3: $1259
    - Dainese Aevro 4: $1059
    - Drididi cheap summer Jacket: $259
    - Dainese Track shoes: $600
    ...
    Police Fines:
    - Helmet wire not fasten enough: $379
    - No High Vis vest on Learner license: $186
    - Total: $565
    ...
    Insurance: Cover Bike Loss:
    $59/month x 3 months = au$177
    ...
    Fuel: $50/week
    Total: $800 for 16 weeks (4 months owning)
    ...
    First Service (do by myself):
    Oil: $70
    Oil Filter: $25
    Tools: $120
    ...
    Cheap Mods:
    Anti drop: $79 (bought from Aliexpress~ really cheap)
    Handle bar ends: $29
    ...
    Buying new Cameras for motovlog channels: lol
    Insta360 One X2 with full accessories: around $800
    Gopro 9 with full accessories: around $800
    ...
    Real Total cost: around~ $24.269 (buying a brand new bike, have fun, gears, cameras and go for License Test).
    However, I just sold my bike last week after 4 months of owning and reached 6000km for $10.000 cash,
    So I lost around $14.269 for the first 4 months, and keep all the gears for my second bike.
    It's good that I did not mod the bike at all, and I decide to stop riding for a while because I need money to run a business in the future.
    All I can conclude, its not cheap my friends :)

    So I get 12 mpg and with insurance/registration, oil changes, and some miscellaneous parts replaced each year I’m spending about $2.70 per mile... so seeing these numbers... even if it’s like $0.60 per mile after the one time costs it’s still way the crap cheaper than what I’m paying right now...

      Yep, I don't know how they got their numbers. I do know the federal government states that companies must reimburse employees for use of private vehicles for company use at the rate of 54 cents per mile so this number doesn't seem to terribly off.

    Registration 125?!?! its 800 in Australia. Is registration like 3rd party insurance as it is here? Any injury to a person will be covered under your registration. If you injure someone for life the government will pay out because your registered.

    • @ThisLifeRiding
      @ThisLifeRiding  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, registration isn't connected to insurance in any way. It simple states the fact that we own the vehicle and that it is recognized by the state that it is road worthy.

    You forgot to mention that the vast majority of people don't buy a sedan for cash. The USDOT claims the average car now costs just north of $25,000. Monthly payments often top $500/mn. Auto insurance is another consideration for monthly cost. Therefore, the cost per mile goes up when all factors are considered.

    • @ThisLifeRiding
      @ThisLifeRiding  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think car payments are a part of the 9k yearly cost of owning a car.

    • @RoxasEarnshaw
      @RoxasEarnshaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think 9k per yer on car might not be accurate...re: car problem? And if everyone follow their car service manual it cost pretty expensive to service cars aswell. I'm from Canada, quoted from delearship brake change front and back is about $800 depending on the shop. transmission is about 3k+ depending on the vehicle.. my 2013 nissan juke. just for this year so far had a transmission changed but was covered by my warranty for $3000+, brake i was quoted 800 at a dealership for front and back but I bought the parts for $154 and installed them myself. So far I've done 1 oil changed for $75. hopefully no more stuff to change aside from the cabin filter that needs changes...

  • @socksonfeet8125
    @socksonfeet8125 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Buy a used motorcycle for $1500, then rebuild it yourself as you go, that $3000 in maintenance for labor becomes $0. Dealer fees would also be $0. Insurance will probably be about $15/month since its old. New vs old motorcycle is a huge difference as well.

  • @nearkolob
    @nearkolob 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Part of the cost of ownership is depreciation not cost of the vehicle or payments. Illustration: I purchased a 97 Camry 4 years ago for 2000. Since the car is so old and I made some improvements to while I owned it, through junk yard therapy, I was able to sell it for 1800 even though I put 70,000 miles on it. My depreciation for my junker was 200 realized dollars.
    The most important thing that people don't realize about owning vehicles is: Is it a slave to you or are you a slave to it? Doesn't matter what the numbers are. A hint is that if your making payments, you're likely the slave.

And if you buy a bike that’s very common like a SV, a Ninja or GR etc.. parts shouldnt be too expensive

That is, most will be adding a motorcycle to their car-life....not replacing the car. Regardless, this video was good for those of us with cars. It helps in considering the TRUE costs of entering this as an extra vehicle/hobby.

      Okan Güven the msf course isn't required so no training is technically required, no. you do however need to pass the test as you mentioned in order to get an endorsement

      An $800 maintenance charge on a $5000 vehicle seems like highway robbery to me, and I live in expensive northern NJ. That is 10 hours labor at $80/hr. My 600mi (1st) service was $173 on my 2016 CBR500R. Your guy must have the same hourly charge as a brain surgeon. I'd say shop around, or take a motorcycle mechanic class.

    Okay u probably have no idea what u are talking about. My cbr300r costed 5300$ out the door canadian! insurance is 3300$ a year. tires you get a replacement maybe every 2 years depends how u ride. chain and sprockets i havent needed once. Also the same for clutch.

      Pricing will vary greatly by location and situation. Plus, by your description, it seems the bike is only being ridden occasionally. This video is as if a bike is being ridden in replacement of a car as a daily commuter and the rider is doing the average distance of a US commuter. So yes, your numbers will be different them mine, but that doesn't mean they are wrong. Either way, thanks for the comment.

      your age or your DL class must be a factor to pay that much on insurance per, that's crazy expensive. I only pay
