As a new woodworker, this is gold. Not everyone has the resources for the fancy jigs with expensive clamps. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you, sir! Subscribed & liked! :)
My good man you are a time saver. I need a tapering jig tomorrow for 1 cut and searched h8gh and low and then found your video. So simple and this is exactly what i was envisioning. Thankyou.
Sir, while this might seem easy to you it’s an absolute godsend for a new woodworker like myself. Thank you for saving me a fair bit of money and for showing me this ingenious way. Aloha!
I watched a few other videos on making a taper jig, but they were pretty involved, and I just don't have time for another detailed shop project right now, I just needed to safely cut a few tapers and be done with it. So thank you so much for making this video, it was exactly what I need.
So simple: I will use that jig for cutting a few 2-4 degrees or so timber tapers for use when removing the twist off "rough sawn" timber using a Thickness Planer. I can see it will work perfectly for that job; as well as cutting tapers for Occasional table legs, etc., etc! Thanks for showing me such a simple way to make a Tapering Jig!🤠 Will make one tomorrow, as it is sooo easy, ha,ha! Keep up the good and practical tips for those who would rather not spend "heaps" of money on expensive and unnecessary jigs, when simple ones like your one work just as well! 🙃🙃. ("Down-under" in the Southern Hemisphere, of course, in New Zealand!)
Now that was brilliant! Just goes to show that you don't have to overthink things to come up with a solution. I'm very glad you decided to make the video. Simple, concise and straight to the point with no needless chit-chat. I'm installing a 1.7m long shower tray onto a plinth, the supports for which need to be taper cut as the floor is 12mm out over the length. This simple jig will be quick to make and the result will be accurate. Thank you very, very much sir!
You saved my bacon today! Installed a very expensive custom bathroom vanity and was absolutely stumped on how to cut the left end filler piece at a slight angle. This house is 65 years old with wonky floors and walls and the space for the filler strip needed to be 1 1/2” at the bottom and 1 3/8” at the top. I only had one chance and thanks to your simple technique, I nailed it. Would have been so easy to ruin the piece. Thank you, thank you.
Very straightforward! Before I saw Paw Paw, I listened to egomaniac TALK ABOUT building some complex precision taper jig without ACTUALLY SHOWING on camera WHAT HE ACTUALLY DID!!!!!!!!. So it is refreshing to see Paw Paw who is someone who does not use his UTUBE site for his personal soapbox/echo chamber/ego massage parlor.
You are correct, this is easy. Thanks for the video. I need to cut a bunch of replacement window casings on a 110 year old house. They are all tapered, and this will help immensely.
THANK YOU!! I have watched so many videos to taper my table legs and I didn't want to spend an entire day making a jig or trying to find a hand planer. This is beyond great.
After spending about an hour trying to make my own jig I decided to stop and look for a solution on TH-cam. I was working during a recent storm and power went out just as I began searching. Perfect timing, right? This jig is a life saver. As soon as power returns I’ll be making the jig and and maybe finish my project today. Thank you very much.
WOW! I am so glad to have found your channel. The best things in the world come from simplicity, mindfulness and above all humility in creation and invention! I will be able to build a nice affordable guitar pedal board with left over material from another project and save 200$! Yay! Thank you TH-cam for Paw Paw's Workshop!
This is how I like to do things. Sometimes simple is smarter and easier. Woodworking has been done for a very long time without elaborate, complicated jigs. Good video paw paw!
wow man. that's soo freaking perfect. thank you for this video. i need to cut a door saddle on an angle and im tryna figure out how to do it without a taper jip. Genius. still the best video 4 years later
I wanted to thank you for this Video - Just this weekend, I need to cut 2 very long tapers, 1 was 48" long ( from 0 to 3/4") and the 2nd was 60" long (from 0 to 1-1/4"). Since I don't have a Track Saw, this would have been a time consumming and difficult job to do with a straight edge and circular saw. Following your video, I was able to make both tapers in just a few minutes and they both turned out perfectly. Thanks for sharring - Chris
Just cut a 1m firring, 50mm to 0, using your technique. This resulted in a smooth, accurate and consistent [angle] taper - I stopped half way through to take a photograph I was so surprised. The whole process felt secure and safe. Thank you so much for sharing this excellent invention. Kit [from UK]
I agree with everyone else here, this is a mindblowingly easy way to do it, holy cow! I will try this today but with a bandsaw. Thank you so much for the idea!
Awesome! Thank you very much. Take a look at my super sized tapering jig video where I am cutting almost an eight foot board that needed to be straightened for the bed that I made.
WOW.... finally, your talking my language... Thank you... I am so happy i found your video!!! This will save me headaches and money!! Thank God, and Thank You for Sharing.
Thanks for this! Like some others have said, while this is a simple solution and something I know I can do, I never would have thought of it on my own.
I saw this about 2 years ago. I made the jig and it worked. It was just what I needed, quick and dirty as they say. And no damage or holes on the piece. Simplest and best taper jig I've seen. Just watched Newbie Woodworker's version, which is very similar.
This was extremely helpful in cutting the facing for the lowest stair of my deck. I needed to be able to match the drop of the grade and this technique worked perfectly! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
I like the way you think. A big thumbs up. Simple yet very effective. I'm glad you did this video. I'm a newbie. I've seen so many videos that just put me off because I also don't have some the other tools they use to make this jig.
You have no idea how much you helped me with this! I'm building an elaborate dog food holder as one of my first few woodworking projects, and I had planned to build a pretty involved leg tapering jig, as I thought I had too. I just used this method, and it worked perfectly. Keep up the great work!
This is wonderful. Need 8’ spacers at different angles to level a wall. I am so glad you decided to do this and glad it came up for me to watch. You good sir have saved me many hours of time. Thank you.
You, sir, are a genius your family must be proud! Thanks for saving me soooo much time a chunk of money and a headache!! Hahaha wooo! Tapered table legs for everyone!!
Thank ya kindly, Sir. Because you decided to go ahead and post this video you have saved some of my bacon on a time-short project. Liked and subscribed. Cheers.
You're welcome. I think it should be about creating a beautiful project vs making a beautiful fancy jig. I like simple effective jigs. Glad you liked it as well. Thank you very much
Exclent. Many thanks from the UK. I need to make a filler strip for the side of a doorframe, so around 72 inches, with a slight taper over the length. Your system will be perfect.
I used your method of building a simple taper jig yesterday. My only concern was my cut board was a 2 by while my jig material was from a 1 by. I built tapered shims on the bottom of my wheelbarrow. The jig was not as sturdy as I would have liked, but I went slow and made the cuts. I did not allow enough for the width of the saw blade on the first board, but the boards came out fine. Thanks for the video!
manyou might have saved my shop.i have a customer wanting a light house.i have no way of getting t clamps and bars and junk for all the ones on you tube then i found yours.thank you now the customer dont need to wait
this is great so simple I never would have thought of it, I also have a cabinet job I needed a tapered filler for and went on a search for tapering jigs thank you
I’m very glad you decided to post this. I’m ripping long shims level my ceiling joists for drywall and this is the perfect solution. I don’t need or want a fancy jig Thank you for this!
After watching several nice jig builds I found yours. I can do the build on those, but I don't do tapers often and would prefer not to spend the time and money building a rarely used jig. This is just what I needed! Thank you.
Awesome! Glad you like it and the best part is that you can make it on the job site in just a couple of minutes and it will work great. Thank you very much.
Thanks for posting this video! I'm searching for a simple solution to cut the sides of a tapered bookshelf and I bet this will work perfectly! Hoping to get the shelf done this week. Thanks!
Thank you for making this video. I am a pretty uncreative person and was having a hard time figuring out how to taper legs for an end table and this worked perfectly!
i just used this technique to taper some maple legs for a coffee table. worked perfectly and quickly as well. thanks so much perfect jig for most part time woodworkers.
Brilliant! Why couldn't I have figured that out? I had to taper several pieces of PVC beadboard and considered buying or building a taper jig. Had this made in about two minutes and it worked better for my purposes than a complex jig. Thanks so much for the idea!
Thank you so much for people like me that just started doing this this video is a life saver , I was going to make something more complicated but this is way easier and faster.
