Earlier they felt name is sufficient. Sheela Dixit for Delhi tried to play strong political leader but her son Sandeep Dixit didn't have his mom's charisma and experience. Rahul and Priyanka relied heavily on what their ancestors did. Priyanka did not join active politics because she didn't feel the need. And as you rightly said they themselves didn't do much and what ever less was done didn't propagate which is so essential for people to be continuously told what's done for them.
The primary reason is people won't fall for this stupidity four times in a row, first Nehru, then Indira and Rajiv.
