I saw the whole video here on TH-cam. I hope to be able to attend a public concert when he will be playing. He is rarely appearing in public. His inspiration for this beginning of the Ballade 1 is remarkable and understandable immediately. Thank you.
YUP... BACK IN THE DAY... ALL (no exceptions) the GREAT "keyboard" composers KNEW how to improvise... Beethoven use to "improvise" on his own piano sonatas...
Genius - so obvious when he says it but not something I'd ever thought before. Sometimes you hear people play the beginning very a tempo - very to the point. And it just doesn't hit. I think this explains why. They know where they are going, but the beginning of the first ballade is exploratory in its very nature. To know your next move so readily is to fail to honor the spirit of the piece.
Rubish. Z. is not bad, but he is exaggerating with this mysticism and it makes me laugh. Too much of being so clever, clever, clever. The music is simple and doesn't need to elaborate so much.
That's honestly what distinguishes a typical pianist and a great one. Zimerman is showing that music isn't just playing a piece mindlessly, but that it requires a passionate effort from your interpretation of the piece as well. In my opinion his Chopin ballades are the best I've ever heard and no one beats his recording of the first ballade.
What you are saying is not true, there are so many years of music behind us and tons of people that tried their hardest to become great musicians and that means alot of thinking and experimenting , when you hear music that makes you think it is natural it is because the people that wrote this music actually bursted in hard work to make it sound good and easy, so it's the same with players, you have to fo through all sides to really understand a piece of music.
The way Zimmerman played the c-minor chord (01:00) is so beautiful. Absolutely perfect timing and perfect volume.
“I want to feel that every note is actually a surprise for me.” Damn he made the whole piece make sense in 1 sentence
so much tension and suspense in the silence...
Amazing

Yes let’s hope soon!
What a great pianist. What he said is as sharp as it gets. Super enlightening. Bravo to you, dear legend! And thanks.
2 minuti... solo 2 minuti ti fanno realmente capire come un pianista molto bravo possa trasmettere emozioni con pochissime note! Solo WOW
Si si è un genio assoluto!
This will forever be the Krystian”we don’t have a TV set” Zimerman video

I tried to improvise and realized I was playing Beethoven, haha.
@@retrogamerdave362 try... something "original"...
All of a composers songs were improvisations until they wrote them down
@@davidp6913 YUP!

He is amazing 💚💚💚
WOW! A mind in music is an incredible thing !
It is not improvisation, but a vivid recounting of a tragic tale; working out this tale of agony is the key to understanding this astonishing work.
I love it. Thanks for sharing this.

生徒の方はルガンスキーさんですかね?
what year is this?
I believe sometime in the 1990s. Zimerman still looks like the way he looked in the 1987 recording of Chopin Ballades and Schubert Impromptus.
Sergio are you Zimmerman's friend? how come you have all these rare videos?
We have important common friends in japan
Vabbe pero non sorprenderti cosi tanto. Io lo rispetto per la sua genealità pero piu semplice, prego.
Zimmerman has created controversy in his recitals but I find him fairly benign. I do dislike his interpretation,,,
Rubish. Z. is not bad, but he is exaggerating with this mysticism and it makes me laugh. Too much of being so clever, clever, clever. The music is simple and doesn't need to elaborate so much.
but when you are studying exageration is a good thing for me

Have to disagree. When your life is that deep in music, the conversation about it cannot help but be distantly abstract. Good luck to you!
