Question of the week: Do Robotic Journalists have Rights? Das' robot army of journalists want to know. There's an asteroid headed toward earth, and a Stage 2 doing the same. Did you watch This Week In Spaceflight? Watch here: th-cam.com/video/CRTCcHzMqbU/w-d-xo.html
ChatGPT does not deserve human rights. Unless your robot is uncany enough that it seems as though it can feel pain and all the various variations of that, it will not protest to claim its rights. We have rights because we can suffer.
If human lawyers can make money defending the rights of inanimate objects, then robots/AI may one day have rights. Also...NO! You are NOT to replace Das or any of your humans with an army of robot journalists! We like 'em as they are!
The orange line being pulled through the block for the reeving is a messenger line. It's attached to a heavier cable which is attached to the main cable, which is then hauled through.
@@JackABeyer Possibly made of polypropylene. Cheap, stretchy and ok for the job. Light and easy to handle round the sheaves. Coil it up afterwards and send it to Florida to use on the chopsticks there. Strong enough to reeve the hauling cable but not strong enough to haul the many tons of main cable.
Interesting, but wouldn't it be better to cap it? Seems like letting the fan spin unrestricted isn't the greatest plan... but perhaps the fan is rated to spin way faster than it could ever spin during transport. Wouldn't it also generate an electric current that might not be ideal? Huh... appreciate the comment. - Das
Actually letting it spin freely does reduce the drag it creates while air passes through it or covering it with a flat cap (the latter one would be like pulling a wall through the air). Static fan blades would force the air passing through them to change direction more than spinning ones therefore inducing more drag. That‘s also why the fans of jet engines tend to spin if (strong enough) wind passes through them. You can sometimes see that when an airliner is pulled across the airport by a tug.
SpaceX at Boca Chica is the busiest commercial site I have ever seen. For over 10 years 24/7 non-stop they have had an ant hills worth of activity. I so glad NSF covers it all. It's freakin amazing. Thanks Das and the whole crew.
I know SpaceX has a lot of launch contracts, but it still boggles my mind how they can pay for all of those people and all of that equipment and all of those spocialized vehicles and all of that fuel. Just millions of dollars a day, at least. 😮
@Nuke-MarsX That's what I was afraid of. When people are willing to "do anything" to achieve a goal, no matter how noble, other people always get hurt. In this case, Elon Musk is ripping apart the federal government in his zeal to remove obstacles to SpaceX. In the process, he is hurting a lot of people.
Awesome, just allowing the images and commentary to 'wash over me' like gentle waves. With repetition, one can learn a ton about space flight. I've recently started watching more and more of these episodes... calming, interesting, and highly informative. Really good 'brain food'. Lol. Thanks! SoCalFreddy
Appreciate that, it really is sort of learning by osmosis. Not trying to force specific facts down anyone's throat, just sharing interesting observations. 👍 - Das

The Starlink holding box is more appropriately compared to a stripper clip or speedloader (Starloader?) not just a clip when referring to firearms. Check with SpaceX for auto leveling supports.
It's been so interesting watching Starbase develop over the past half-decade. Starship is exciting, and the engineering is incredible. It's all bittersweet now. It's all been poisoned from the top-down and is hard to watch. I'll miss it.
Hey John, thanks again for another good one! Am I right in thinking that your automated cameras record in 4K and then you crop down the footage for the interesting bits?
Dann quasi vollautomatisch.
The new launch mount seems much more massive than the original. How are they going to get that thing moved and lifted into place? It looks like it would be way too heavy for even 2 cranes to lift?
You might have done the math wrong. It is possible that adding a small wind-turbine to an EV, could actually produce more power, than it takes out in drag, because of wind. Wind will add energy into the equation, if the EV is driving into a head-wind. And of course if the EV is parked in a strong enough wind, a small wind-turbine could charge the battery.
One question please,. How do we know _which is which_ when we talk about Booster 15 vs Booster 16, or Upper Stage 20 vs 24 etc? Are there serial numbers or labels visible to public, or just educated guesses?
Maybe pedantic, but they are just "quotes", not "air-quotes". "air-quotes" is when you use your fingers to symbolize "quotes" in the air. See what I did there, putting "quotes" around "air-quotes" 🙂
@@NASASpaceflight Does not make a difference since you are referring to the quotes in the caption. Could you go on camera with you air-quotes ;-) Just a personal hang-up. Keep up the good work. Really enjoying your comments, and preferring them over Klingon.
It's interesting... because if we had captured a label, and were able to directly quote what it says, we wouldn't use quotes in the title. Since this is an assumed name based on our best guess, we denote it with the "air quotes" (even though they're in writing) which carry a closer connotation to our use referring to the assumed tank. - Das

They’ve got steel. They’ve got welders. When are they going to make a steel road with interlocking plates that will hold the weight of the larger boosters and ships?
Since a comment was requested (more than once) I will mention that I was quietly enjoying the commentary until we reached the 'Wedding Chapel', which may have resulted in an 'out loud' sort of laugh.
Das, I have a digital telescope that can refine its idea of level by comparing stars' positions with where it expexts them to be. If you had a remote levelling device, could you use the same principle by knowing where fixed points in your remote cameras views are?

Hey bud, just an FYI: the reason they let the fan spin during transport is to prevent the blades from bending due to restricted movement.
Thanks for that; I didn't consider that possibility.
Prevents brinelling of the motor bearings aswell. Electric motor are prone to it in transport

M1's used en blocks not strippers, you're thinking the '03 which was fed by strippers. :)
If the fan was stationary, there would be greater wind resistance.
The new launch mount seems much more massive than the original. How are they going to get that thing moved and lifted into place? It looks like it would be way too heavy for even 2 cranes to lift?
I believe those LR1100 can lift 1000 tons each.

Sure a 46" turbine can produce 400ish watts at 12 volts. All you need to do is stow it and set it up.

oohh the next meteor shower is ready for launch.
The fan on the truck is not connected to a load so has very little drag
Optimus camera operators? Soon? NSF should ask elon for a few to "test"
