      I loved it lol. Also yeah these guys are derpy AF. My guy Carl hungers for hands... Well more so baby guppies. He's my population control manager and will stand on his back legs when a female is giving birth and eat every baby as it comes out... I actually have a raise out tank so I can keep a couple clutches once in awhile as needed.

    When I was 5, I was obsessed with frogs. One day, my mom got me a tiny dwarf frog and a 1.5 gallon tank. I knew nothing about them, but loved watching the tiny frog swim around! By some miracle, "Dude" the frog lived alone, eating once a week for 3 years before he croaked.
    Now I'm 16 and plan to buy a 5 gallon for 2 of these little guys! Thanks for all the help and motivation!

    I feel like they’re similar to bettas in terms of temperament. It really just depends on the fish/frog. You could get a super social one or you could get an absolute menace to society there’s no in between😂😂😂

    Thanks for the video! I am a teacher and we have them as pets in our class. There were two and they lived about 4-5 years. One just passed away, but the other seems fine. He just started making noise and I had never heard that before, when his friend was around. It started when I was playing my piano. It was so interesting.

    I am new to 🐠🐟 fish keeping. I have a 5 gal aquarium with 4 neon tetras, 1 corydora and 1 ADF I call Kermit. I think it is a female from the information I gathered from your video. She is adorable and active. Sometimes I think she recognizes me, because she comes to the area of the tank that I am watching. Her cute little beedy 👀 eyes seem to be watching me while I watch her. In fact, she seems to show off by making frequent surfaces and nose dives. She must be getting enough to eat, as she has doubled in size in the few months that I have had her. I keep 1/2 of an algea tablet in the tank at night, freeze dried or frozen baby brine shrimp 🦐 alternate with blood worms and flakes. My little community seems happy and healthy, so far. Thank you for this informative video 👍

    I kept my frogs in a 70 gallon tank that I filled 2/3 and they seemed happy with the extra swimming room… I went all out for my babies 🥰🥰…p.s they will try to eat your guppies even though they can’t actually swallow them, I caught my girl in the act with half of the guppie out fighting for its life, that’s when I realized why their tails were all torn (I thought it was the water current and went through like 3 filters🤦🏾‍♀️ in reality it was just mighty Melissa always looking for easy food even thought she was already overweight ) also dropsy at the vet, there’s little they can do.. one got it and the vet tried to drain it with a syringe but it’s hard to do that with what is essentially a mushy fat quarter that won’t sit still( just getting the weight was a challenge to keep her on the little scale) she later puffed back up. I tried some diy to make her comfortable in the last days like giving it a resting spoon to sit in and lots of attention and a special tea soak calming frog mix thing for their water.. everything in my power/pet store( best thing is prevention, keep anything with abrasive or with sharp/jagged edges out of the tank so they don’t scratch themselves and get infected, when I did that the other two thrived and never ever got sick) also, they can be friendly but they mostly fight… I used chopstick to break it up when I caught it and they would stop and go after the stick instead of each other😂 the girls can be real bullies but they will sometimes swim up to you (I keep an open tank so when I was near they would follow me at the surface, they would also peep their heads out the water when I cooked and keep their head out for a long time smelling zesty air) GREATEST PETS EVER!🥰🥰🥰

    their names are as follows, listed in their groups we got them in:
    Frogface and Fly
    Buffy (used to have a Boggy as well, however he sadly passed and his tankmates disposed of him)
    Salti, Spicy, Sofrito, and Sazon.

    Excellent vid - footages, voice clarity & rate of speech which is helpful for beginner ADF moms/dads to follow along 👍
    I got these guys today for my community tank. Excited to spend more time w/ them. I never thought I’d be a frog owner because I don’t really like frogs lol but they’re miniature, cute, nonaggressive, low maintenance, and fully aquatic which is convenient. Curious to see how they mix w/ their new friends.
    I only have a 15 gal Fluval, so tank height is a bit deep but they figured out how to get to the surface easily. Luckily I have a large tree like branch as my centerpiece which allows them to climb on it for support. Not much swimming going on today but they like peeking their heads above the water. Hope I wake up w/ my little ghost shrimps, neon tetras, and endlers guppies unharmed🤞 I will find more of your vids on these ADFs to watch. 🤗

    I used to have my African dwarf frog in my 10 gallon tank with my Dojo Loach, Black Skirt Tetras, my Corydoras, and my larger mystery snails; however, he was not getting enough to eat so I moved him to my 5 gallon tank. In my 5 gallon tank, I have a golden rabbit snail, a white spotted rabbit snail, a king koopa Nirite snail, a zebra Nirite snail, a few guppies, and tons of orange Sakura shrimp and so far he is doing wonderful in there. I have a baby Corydora in the 5 gallon for now. My African dwarf frog is named Frogwartz and he is a total singer at night. He also likes to come up to the glass and look at me/beg for food. He is so cute.

    • @heathert5455
      @heathert5455 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisfishfrogs no, I have a bunch of shrimp anyways (over a dozen) but I did see him bite the antenna of my golden rabbit snail last night....the first time that I seen that. I added more food to the tank and Frogwartz turned to that instead. He didn't do any lasting damage to the rabbit snail, just scared him, and he antenna is still fully intact. Neither the snail or the frog see very well and I assume that the frog felt threatened because the snail is big and was inching toward him.

    I got a 29 gallon tank as a gift & I bought a baby ADF. She's w/ guppies, a Cory & Panda catfish, an algae eater & 2 female bettas. I didn't realize she needed a short tank or that a cave might bother her, but it's been over a month & she's doing just fine. The cave has 3 exists, 2 on the sides & one on the side but closer to the top, hopefully that's enough. She hid a lot for a while but now she's out more. Trying to make sure she has enough food has made my bettas fat, though. Lol
    I need to figure out how to put the bettas on a diet while making sure Kiwi eats enough. I never knew bettas were such pigs! Oddly enough, the bettas love her. The baby hangs out w/ her under the plants & Kiwi lands on the older betta's back & sits there like she's riding a horse. It's so funny, I hope I can get a picture sometime. The betta doesn't seem to mind at all, it's really strange. 40 years old w/ my first fish tank & I'm excited like a little kid. 🤣

    I’ve had good luck with the aquatic frogs in 12 inch in height w a gentle overwater filtration. They seem to know if they put something in their mouth that’s not food they spit it out. I keep a frog only tank. I keep plants in the tank. The like eating vitamin infused dehydrated blood worms and frog size sinking pellets. I also feed frozen blood worms once a month or more as a late spring snack. This usually facilitates mating in my mature frogs.i have 2 females and 2 males. The males do this posturing stamping their back legs and sometimes grabbing each other and tumbling end over end in the water column. Like wrestling under water. They float dive and dart about pouncing on the floating food and often my big female will grab another frog or put its foot in her mouth. She’s a beast we named her goblin as she eats most of the food. We’ve had 2 males die but my female is been with me going on 4 years. They’re fun to watch.

    12:42 Cute! My African Clawed Frogs are definitely social too. I was wondering if I should get a single African Dwarf Frog for a 1 Gallon Tank I have since I heard 1 Gallon per frog but was unsure because of the fact I heard the same thing about African Dwarf Frogs being social, but perhaps it's not a big deal if I get a single Dwarf Froggy in a 1 Gallon Tank I have?

    • @chrisfishfrogs
      @chrisfishfrogs  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think having a single ADF would be fine, but I'd recommend at least a 2.5 gallon for a single adult ADF, preferably a 5 or a 10. One gallon is really going to restrict its movement. If the tank size is set, I'd suggest something else like a betta. Good luck!

    I have 2 ADF's. I noticed the mating behavior about a month ago. Now, the female is bloating like a balloon. She is still able to move around well, but I hate to see anything uncomfortable. I inherited these little ones after my kid moved out and they are 3 or 4 years old. I have cleaned the tank, and this includes boiling everything, including the gravel and cycling it before I put them back in.(20 gallon long) I have another small 5 gallon tank. Should I put her in there alone and what can I do for her? These little ones have been thru a lot and I want to make their golden years comfortable. I have tried reading about the bloat issue, but an honestly confused. My ph and temp are good, so are all the other components. I am careful about what I put in the tank as additives as well. Also, as far as food goes, what little things can I do for them. I have the "frog" food, and the worms, but can I give them anything in small amounts that is fresher?

    • @chrisfishfrogs
      @chrisfishfrogs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear about the bloat. There's not much you can do for her, other than consulting an exotics vet. True bloat is an internal organ problem, not something caused by your water parameters. It's possible that it's not actually bloat, but instead impaction of the colon caused by swallowing an object (e.g., gravel). But either way, there's no real cure. If she stops eating, you might consider euthanasia, but if she continues to feed, you can just care for her as you would normally.
      As for treats, you can try feeding them small bits of raw frozen fish, like tilapia or salmon. They also love live foods, like scuds or blackworms.
      Good luck!

I now have 8 or 9 -3 month old froglets. Right now they are in a tank in about 6 or seven inches of water. Their parents are in a communtiy tank in about 12 inches of water. While I won't be adding all of them into the tank, how old should the be before they can swim up to the top to get air at 12 inches? 2nd question, I breed and ship nano fish. Do I ship ADFs the same way and at what age? Thank you.

    • @chrisfishfrogs
      @chrisfishfrogs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks, Karen!
      In my experience, even the smallest of frogs can handle 12 inches of water, if they're healthy. If you're worried about it, taking out an inch or two while they're really small wouldn't hurt. As for shipping, I think it's common to start once their tail has dropped, which usually will take a few months. Shipping them very young probably isn't a problem for them. (Growafrog, which sells ACFs, ships tadpoles, and they seem to be fine.)

    Hello! I need some help. About 2 weeks ago I got 6 neon tetras and one African dwarf frog. I put them in a 5 gallon tank. From the beginning the frog wasn’t a good eater and the fish gobbled up their food perfect. Well over the last few days the fish have been dying one by one and had poor appetite. I checked my ph levels in tank and they were perfect so then checked ammonia level and that was the culprit. I changed about 50% of the water and things seemed better but yesterday I lost another fish (I’m down to two now) and this morning I noticed my frog is shedding his skin. Is that normal? And I still have yet to see him eat anything- I have offered blood worms and slow sinking pellets but have not seen him eat anything and I’m worried. Any help/suggestions, thank you.

    • @chrisfishfrogs
      @chrisfishfrogs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It sounds like your tank is going through the nitrogen cycle for the first time. Ammonia will not cause your frog to shed, but it might be the culprit if your frog is not eating. (Although it might have eaten its skin.) I suggest doing big water changes daily as your tank spikes in ammonia, then nitrite. Once the nitrite subsides, you can stop doing daily water changes, but that might be a few weeks off. You can get away with doing changes bigger than 50% (like 90%). Just try to match the temperature of the existing water as best you can (they make digital thermometers for aquariums), and make sure to use a dechlorinator liquid. Your priority at this point is to minimize the ammonia, which is highly toxic to your animals. Neon tetras are fairly sensitive, but your frog should be more robust. Good luck!

      Your frog might be attacking your fish making them weak too then they die, they do it in the dead of night but I’ve caught mine trying to eat my male guppies. Also they need friends.. I rescued my first dwarf frog because he was missing an arm and I felt bad for him and through research I found out they don’t do well on their own, got a few more and it became more active and thrived, they need fellow frogs. Also, too much activities in a small area will heighten chances of sickness especially since the water shouldn’t be changed often so please consider the amount of peers to water and that they absorb everything in the tank with their skin, it’s why I got them a 40 gallon then their 70 gallon oasis eventually. They will explore if you give them more room and be more active. Best of luck to you!
