As someone who plays - and as MOST players will probably tell you - it's not a scam, but DON'T spend on more than a cheap initial game package unless you're doing it to support the game. You can get everything else in game for in-game credits. They'll keep the latest ships store exclusive for a few months to help fund the game further, but they WILL come to the in-game stores and you WILL be able to buy them.
Also, it IS currently alpha with all the bugs and weirdness that implies, if you can't handle that, patience will get you to the actual release eventually - but it'll be a few more years.

I feel the need to add to this.
If you're starting, I suggest more than the Aurora package for $35. The Anvil C8X Pisces Explorer for $45 is VERY worth the extra $10, as it will give ample room for Delivery missions, which is the easiest and fastest way to make money early on.

I just don't think a $700+ million funded game(s) should take near a decade & that much money to not yet release, officially, a product. I'm mostly a cheapskate, try to be frugal, so I won't probably buy anything SC related till there's an official release. I think there's a smell of money mismanagement, but I hope I'm wrong. All that aside though since my current rig just couldn't run it.

    • @Nemoticon
      @Nemoticon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Why not? If you look it up, LOADS of game take over a decade to develop and the ammount of money they make from pledges has nothing to do with it. It's a custom built game engine pushing completxity and detail like no other game out there. It's only because it has open development that people are aware of it to meme online.

      @@NemoticonWhy not?
Because Star Citizen started development in 2012 or 2010 according to wikipedia and if I Google the list of games with the longest development time what I see on the list in Spore that took 8 years, Too Human that was 9 years, The Last Guardian that was also 9 years, Team Fortress 2 also 9 years, Final Fantasy XV that was 10 years, Prey (2017) was 11 years, Diablo III also 11 years, Mother III was 12 years, Duke Nuken Forever that was 15 years and last Metroid Dread that was 16 years. This is a outdated list since Dead Island 2 come out and took about 12 years ... I cannot generalize that list, I will say most of those titles failed to meet expectations and often had problematic development (such as when at one point in FF XV Nomura wanted to make it a musical).
To put things in perspective, Concord took 8 years and cost 400 million dollars and Elite Dangerous that also had a Kickstarter in 2012 released in 2014.
Also another thing, its not a "custom build engine", its CryEngine or Amazon Lumberyard or its current name, StarEngine and I have no idea why would you make such claim, also since I am at it, Star Citizen "switched engine" in 2016 and StarEngine is based on Lumberyard, now Lumberyard been succeeded by Open 3D Engine since 2021 meaning its "heavily modified" engine is based on the 2016 Lumberyard version.
The reason people meme Star Citizen is we quickly saw it was either be stuck on development hell due to feature creep or it would scale down to a realistic version, I did brought the initial pitch until I saw the "selling of jpgs" since that was a red flag, as the game development seem to be "add new feature that will delay the game for a extra year" and my interest was only on Squadron 24 that was not only "delayed" to post launch but being a separate product, my interest vanished entirely.
I am only here because MC Stu is one of the few active STO TH-camrs and this appeared on my feed, the truth is nobody outside the bubble cares about Star Citizen any more, we have bigger fish to fry this day ... might appear sometimes when someone remembers about it and goes check if it released or something but space combat sims were already niche and there is no real interest on then today.

Yes and no. Depends on what you're looking for and your tolerance for periods of buggy gameplay from patch to patch. When it's working, it's a fantastic experience. Like Star trek online, you don't have to spend real money (past a $45 or more game package) but if you want to cut grind out of your experience, there is the hella expensive pledge store. Unlike Star Trek online, there are a lot less freebies. I personally don't think it's a scam but I do believe they are sometimes shady with how they market ships.

I'm a player, well I try to be as its unplayable for more than 10mins before a bug kills you or takes all your progress away and you have to restart your activities etc. If you choose to pay for this game, I recommend combat FPS, it is VERY orientated towards combat FPS by the developers. The dream they are selling has and will continue to be changed at a regular basis. Especially after they have pushed to sell a certain ship type, which they then change the 'dream'.

It's a scam because it's obvious the game is never going to exit Alpha. They make ships to keep raking in cash, but the actual development of the game aspect (stuff to do, new features) has been slow af. I don't ever expect this tech demo of a "game" to make it to release. By the time it does, it'll likely be out of money due to loss of interest or it'll be outdated tech wise (too much tech debt to continue further development.
DO NOT SPEND MORE THAN $60 if you want to play this cool tech demo. You will get bored of this cool tech demo and go back to actual games.

Even the most basic parts of this game are buggy, and break endlessly, the community are either elitists or outright toxic.

I played EVE for 14 years.... It's old, outdated and requires FAR to much time investment for anyone over the age of 17. It just got old and far to stressful. I rolled with Intrepid crossing out there near XDeath, so i was in the 0.0 game for a long time, help assault tribute back when we exploded that one server =D good memories of an otherwise stressful game.
Elite Dangerous is empty, no substance, terrible UI, terrible controls and boring combat.
No mans sky will never get a dime, they lied to their customers, regardless of anything that came after, they LIED, KNOWINGLY.
Starfield is trash by a trash developer... Enough said.

@@thecommenter9678 Thanks for your opinion you are definitely entitled to it. If you hated the time sink in Eve you will hate Star Citizen then. this is not a game you can log into for 15 min and make any real progression.
Elite Dangerous if you hated the UI and controls in it again Star Citizen will blow your mind on how bad it is. Star Citizen has a much much MUCH higher learning curve. Thousands of people are still playing this game as well its just so massive you wont run into many people but I do all the time.
No Man's Sky it making about millions every year in 2022 alone it made 50Million.
Starfield while you feel is trash is trash I would love to heard why you feel this way and why you feel Star Citizen is better?
While you have opinions on other games you have not shown a single reason why Star Citizen if better in any way than any of these other games. It extremely buggy and while its rated as F2P the cost of ships are more then if you bought all these games together which is horrible. As the current reviews have stated the game is not worth playing at all in its current state and when you compare it to whats out there it just simple falls short.
I however am happy your enjoying the game and I hope you continue to enjoy it. That being said if you hate games with no one else playing you will be alone in this one as well shortly after people stop trying it.

But it's empty, you hardly see anyone, there is nothing really to find or do, and it's all just copy pasted system after system with nothing at all interesting.
As for No Mans Sky, well, people are stupid, they will forget betrayals by massive corporate entities all the time. That ain't strange. Me on the other hand i hold grudges, im very good at it. The plan for release is NOT 100 systems, it's 5. Stanton, Pyro, Nyx, Castra and Terra. I think A LOT has changed since you last looked up Star Citizen, judging from everything you've said in this video. CIG has given the full 1.0 release plan, it might be worth your time and interest looking it up if you're gonna cover it.

SC IMO is worth it - BUT you have to approach it with the right mindset. Most games you play to win. That's how they're designed. SC is different in that it's designed to experience and explore. If you come into it expecting to win you'll be disappointed. Come into it expecting a great experience and you'll always have a smile on your face. You'll even laugh at the glitches as many are funny.

They say they make money from pledges that community members make, not from the sales of specific products. They make it very clear when you’re buying something from their store that 1: the game is not finished and 2: you are not buying a product, you’re making a pledge, and they give you a product as a bonus. That being said, you never have to spend more money on the game in order to play, than the minimum amount to get the cheapest package. Should you choose to purchase a better package or standalone ship, you also will not be at an advantage over players that did not. The game even in its current state is balanced well enough to prevent that, where all gameplay you could engage in will be skill based over anything else. Also, those ships in their store that cost like $300+ are not for the average player to buy, CIG knows how much those cost. Those ships are for org leaders to purchase for their organization
