The Sims 4 Tutorial | How to Build a Greenhouse | No CC | T.O.O.L Mod |

- In this Sims 4 greenhouse tutorial I show you a couple of common methods for building greenhouses using the base game and no cc/mods, and then also my own method for creating them using only the base game and the T.O.O.L. mod. (SKIP TO T.O.O.L SECTION: 5:18)
The final greenhouse created in this tutorial is available on The Sims 4 Gallery (ID: ionathegamer) and no cc or mods are required to download it (not even the T.O.O.L. mod). This tutorial is aimed at PC players. Please note I do not furnish the greenhouse in this video, but a furnished version is available on The Sims 4 Gallery.
To request a custom greenhouse, please post in the comments which size (i.e. 3x4) and what colour of frame you would like (white/grey/black/dark wood/light wood).

I've always wanted a realistic greenhouse for my gardening Sims and this is such a great tip! The T.O.O.L. mod seemed intimidating to me, but I like this in depth explanation of it. I'm not a huge builder, but I would download it to make more custom glass roofs, especially for a conservatory. Great first video! Looking forward to more of what you'll share. 😊

I know T.O.O.L. can seem quite intimidating because you see all these amazing, complex and crazy things that people make with it, but you can use it to aid with really simple adjustments and I’ve only shown the ‘scale’ feature here. I would suggest you look up the TOOL introduction video from the maker too, just because I was also intimidated by TOOL, but watching that video made me feel way better. It can be a little fiddly, but it's definitely not as complicated as I expected.

I too try to avoid mods (I removed the part where I waffled on about mods but removed it haha), but I finally bit the bullet and got TOOL and don’t think I’ll ever look back as it’s so useful, works well and also doesn’t mark your uploads to the gallery as modded because it’s not actually putting any custom content in your game, it’s just moving around the game’s own objects.

I came from Carl’s shout out and subbed. You explain things very clearly, even though I haven’t used TOOL much I’m exited to try this in game! Just wanted to ask is there a way to make the windows made by TOOL to look more windowy? I mean it looks like a hole, is there a way to make it more glassy? Ah thank you! Was really cool of him to give me a shoutout. Yeah unfortunately they’re not real windows anymore but just a gap where the glass should be 😅 If there is a way I haven’t figured it out yet unfortunately, I wish I knew! I don’t have all packs so don’t have a full catalogue of items to work with, but there are some items like maybe ‘Corrupted Glass Tapestry’ which could be manoeuvred to fill the gap with glass, but even doing that the diagonal/steeper sections would be awkward to fill 😞

Thank you for the great video! I was trying to do this with the Eco Lifestyle windows (they look similar to the Let There Be Light windows, but way cheaper in game, I don't always play with money cheats) and it didn't seem to work, which is interesting to me. But it looks perfect with Let There Be Light, my Sims just saved up a little.

I follow all your steps but when I’m done with the windows on the roof and have scaled them and I then click somewhere else the windows disappear!!

This looks amazing! However I’m on Xbox and a bit of a newbie. Do you know if there’s any way of me doing this since I can’t shift click the windows once I get into live mode?
Sorry I have no idea regarding console. I believe this only works for PC. Think you can still download and use my premade ones from the Gallery though.

You click the wall in Build Mode and there are 3 height options at the top of the menu that pops up.

Hi, I have a tip... A a simmer myself I always use the building mode and use the L1/R1 on the PS4 to place a door, then the windows automatically all around the wall.

What if I use the ] cheat to downsize? Will it give a weird shape or shadow?
Hello. Basically TOOL is doing the same thing as the [ ] keys do. But there’s a limit to how small you can go with the [ ] brackets with game itself, it only lets you shrink a window twice, so you’ll still have an obvious window there. What TOOL is doing is removing that scale limit and letting you shrink windows down so much that you no longer see them.

Followed the whole thing until the tool thing appeared when you shift click and I realised I needed a mod.....
do you know why my roof disappears as soon as i click live mode to edit to windows?
I’m not sure off the top of my head and without seeing your game, but you might have different camera/view settings for Live mode, or maybe a Sim in the building? If you’re using T.O.O.L mod, since I made this video a couple of years ago the mod was adapted so it can be used in Build mode. Might have to watch a newer tutorial by TwistedMexi as how it works in Build mode is slightly different.

Have you got the 'bb.moveobjects on' cheat active? Otherwise it could be that things have changed since I made this video over a year ago D:
@@moonhunter3741 Oops just saw your second comment. Glad you figured it out! And yeah basically that’s the point of this video, the scaling the windows part hides the windows and leaves an empty space. It’s still not ideal but it allows for as close to the greenhouse roof aesthetic as I could get it.

Hi there :) This video was made ~9 months ago on an older version of T.O.O.L mod, I haven’t played recently so I am not sure if any of the features in this video don’t work anymore and don’t currently have access to the game so cannot test anything for you, sorry.
But are they functional
Yes, it’s just shrunken windows on a roof. There isn’t any functionality to lose. It behaves like any other building/roof.
This is a nice tutorial and I appreciate you making it. However, a couple of things that seem a bit overlooked.
-The thumbnail shows a greenhouse that had to use a mod to make, but your title says no CC which implies you can do this with the basegame/without mods of any kind. That's kind of misleading, as most people (like me) click on this tutorial because the title implies no mods but the thumbnail that made me click on the video needs a mod to make.
-I know you tried to make up for the fact that these greenhouses have to be built with mods by uploading them to the gallery for people to download, but they're uploaded as lots so if I want to pop one of these into my lot because I don't want to download a mod to make one, I have to rebuild my entire house around it because it places as a whole lot. I know that can't be helped but it makes this video that much more misleading.
I’m sorry you feel mislead. The same thumbnail you are referring to also says T.O.O.L mod. It’s marked as no CC because it’s not actually creating custom objects, it is just resizing/moving the game’s existing objects. Therefore when you upload anything made with T.O.O.L mod to the gallery it doesn’t have the CC flag. The premade versions I uploaded to the gallery were a courtesy for those who don’t want to use the mod but still want to have a greenhouse as pictured (which as you’ll see on the gallery have no CC) - it was not meant to be misleading. I made this video over 2 years ago but apologise for the inconvenience all the same.

I provided multiple options without CC/mods. Then also provided the T.O.O.L mod option.
Using T.O.O.L mod doesn’t create CC in the lot (explained that in the video) and I give the option for those who don’t like mods to just download the premade ones I put on the Gallery (which don’t show up as has having CC because the mod just moves/resizes objects it doesn’t create new content).

Sorry that the TOOL mod put you off! You don't need the mod to download the greenhouse and I also talk through a couple of other greenhouse methods which don't require any mods. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! :)

This tutorial is excellent!! Thank you for this. Like many others in the comments, I love building and have wanted to use T.O.O.L but I am intimidated by it, mainly because I don't like numbers lol. I did just want to ask, is the greenhouse functional? can you grow things all year round in them?

Yes it’s functional, it functions like a regular building it just has windows added to the roof. Whether or not things can be grown indoors I am not sure as I haven’t played live mode in a long time. However if it needs to be outdoors you could always remove one of the wall panels (and leave it open or do the singular wall segment trick for a fake room)
