I am back with the build status update on the 4AGE 20 valve blacktop installed in the Corolla FX16 GT-S. A new ECU and coil on plug conversion kit are on their way. Meanwhile, I want to check the fueling to make sure the ECU has a good baseline. I pulled out the fuel injectors and mailed them to RC Injection to have the injectors tested, cleaned and tested again. There's no way to find out individual injector performance with the built-in sensors the engine has. The oxygen sensor can only read the average of all 4 injectors.
The test results show that only 1 injector that was close to performing to factory specs. The other 3 had significant flow restrictions and poor spray patterns. After the cleaning, all 4 injectors are performing within 1.5cc/min of each other and have an excellent spray pattern. It is very exciting to discover a problem that was so easy to correct. Injector removal and re-installation was relatively easy and inexpensive. I mounted a camera to see the new improved fuel spray pattern. Watch as the spray is has a nice and even pattern and of course the sound!
The immediate difference I felt was the smoothness of the engine. Idle has almost no shake and the 4AGE pulls strong to redline. Partial throttle input also feels better. I was unable to get a dyno test to verify due to the Covid-19 lock down.If you haven't serviced your injectors in a long time or ever, you should definitely do it. Next up on the 4AGE build is installing the ECU and coil on plug conversion kit.
The Corolla is running better than ever and I'm excited to give the 4AGE a big brain :D

This is exactly why I tell people to clean injectors before modding their cars, I had no idea how much they can vary by though that is insane!

I used to deliver pizzas in one of those. Tickets, high insurance, and every once in awhile the pizza cheese actually ended up off the pizza and on the box lid. Maybe this wouldn't happen to tofu? It was only $2 or $3 difference between a Corolla FX and a v8 Camaro single car, liability only. All the customers got fresh replacement pizzas.

Have you thought about upgrading the spark plugs for a little more power? Pulstar makes plugs with integrated capacitors that saturate the fuel with plasma, which is supposed to create a faster and more energetic burn. It sounds weird but the vehicles they tested all gained 2-8HP and 1-10lb ft of torque.

Any post-cleaning dyno results? This was a great vid! Shocking. I have a 91 4AFE Corolla Wagon with 141K miles and the engine runs like a top and I want to get it to top working condition, and see how many MPG's I can get from that engine and it's 5sp transmission.

Hey Man, I'm from Trinidad and Tobago. I love your Content. I've got an Ae100 corolla swapped over with a 4age 20v Blacktop with 6fwd Gearbox off an Ae111 levin tureno. My clutch needs replacing atm. It got scorched from track days at my local Autocross and Circuit racing. Have you ever replaced your clutch and pressure plate? What aftermarket brand do you recommend? I was thinking of going after either a Stage 1 or Stage 2 set up. Would definitely appreciate your response 😅

i had issue with honda k24 injector passed all the test flow and injector cleans. untill it got hot and stopped working afte 40 minute driving such a stuff around
The injectors could be the reason why the header and bigger diameter exhaust made less power than factory
So I have an FX16 gts with a red top 4age, but my main question is how much did it cost to get the injectors inspected and cleaned?
It was $128.50 to have all 4 injectors cleaned and tested. That also included the shipping back and tax.

I'm thinking about either getting my injectors flow tested or just replacing them. They've got over 310k as well as the original fuel pressure regulator.
There will be nothing wrong with them. It is an insult to nippondenso for RC to make such claims of variance. Total BS.
@@micknumpty3783 ever heard of gumming up the internals and tips? I have and I've cleaned and tested injectors and seen the difference, have you? Just because they're denso and whatever doesn't mean they can't get dirty.
Do it, it'll make a big difference, they'll be like new basically
@@Liveforeever I've messed with Denso injectors and varying fuels/blends including isopropanol, nitro, methyl benzene, xylene, ethanol,avgas and e85 along with lots and lots of junk from fuel pumps.
I have never had an issue with dirty injectors.
Only other proof I have of dirty injectors is from the " I spent money time and effort on this so I'm gonna say it made a difference" brigade who have nothing but opinion. Like you.
@@micknumpty3783 all I'm saying is that every well used injectors being bosch, denso, nippon, Chinese fakes etc benefit from a good clean. Fuel delivery quantity improves aswell as spray pattern from what I've seen. You are saying that injectors don't get dirty and performance is not affected. That's like saying oil filters, fuel filters, air filters don't get dirty

How much does cost all the process to change standard carbs for 86 to injectors ? Do we have to change the ECU and all ?
This engine is efi from the factory. I think there were some 4afc's around (could be wrong) but they are really uncommon

These were the original 20v blacktop injectors.
Was it mentioned how much the injector cleaning cost? Also is it too early to reveal which standalone ECU you ordered? I'm actually more interested in knowing if it's a plug and play ECU than what actual unit/brand it is.

i want a wide band to throw around in the header runners . just get one and move it around over a week see whats going on
That's a good idea. Keep in mind that at low load, the exhaust runners will sort of scavenge air from other runners, making the reading not so accurate

Probably better to just put them in your own ultrasonic cleaner, seems like a lot of effort for not much actual work
@@sneugler the plus side of doing it this way is that you don't have to worry about the injectors possibly still not being good afterwards, because you get some actuall results.

ECU install is currently in progress. It wasn’t quite plug and play. I was going to upload the complete ECU install video, but it’s seeming like that might take too long so I’ll have to split it up.

Before you do anything else you should install an AF/R guage with an LSU 4.9 sensor.

I really doubt those "before" values are correct, something doesn't add up, your engine would be running really rough and even possibly with a broken piston if there was 40% difference in fuelling between cylinders
If it was boosted it would have been a problem
