We bought a 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport FWD new in November of 2013. It doesn't have the CVT, it has a 6-speed PowerTech automatic transmission with Auto Stick with the 2.4L engine. We now have 147,800 miles on it. I do all of the maint service on it and since new, so far I've replaced, the drivers side spindle assembly (bad bearing, the drivers side rear wheel bearing, the radiator and the filler neck in the top radiator hose. We live in North Georgia and for us it's been a great vehicle.
I have a 2008 5 spd with no air or any other extras. 150,000 kms but the body is rusting at the rear wheel wells. Engine runs great, has good power and pickup and no electrical issues. No complaints.
I bought a 2015 jeep patriot. A few minor issues but it’s an amazing vehicle. Great in the snow, good mileage. I agree with the spark plug issue though, but just keep up maintenance and you’ll be good. Love my patriot! No cvt. Automatic. Sport.
My opinion is to buy it! I just purchased a 2014 Patriot 4x4 5 speed manual also a week ago with 159,000 miles for $4,000. I agree this would probably be the more reliable drivetrain. So far I had to replace the sparkplugs because of hesitation during low end torque. It drives very well and havent noticed any issues with anything other than the sparkplug issue which is common on these 2.4's. Because I live in the rust belt I plan on keeping the subframes well oil coated to protect them from rusting. I plan on installing a tow hitch because I use a utility trailer every so often. Overall, cheap to buy, useful 4wd and fun to drive!
I have a 2014 with more than 200K on it. 2.4 CVT Transmission. Just regular maintenance.. I live in the south so not dealing with the sub frame rust issues.
I dont normally watch these reviews, but my wifes gonna need a new vehicle soon, you can find these cheaper and in decent shape arpund here. I was wondering if they were much good. This video helped me with that, im always leery of anything cvt
Zero Electronic issues so far. I am the 2nd owner of a 2014 jeep patriot "North" edition. however the fuse box located under the hood to the left of the driver position makes a sound that might sound like a serpetine belt but its not. Its actually the air compressor (aC) causing vibrations to the box that houses the fuses. When the car idles it squaks. I also noticed these are prone to a transmission leak especially on the CVT but why are Lines ran the way they are its silly.
I've got a 2014 Jeep Patriot with 164,000 miles. Had it since new, no engine or transmission problems yet. Biggest problems are control arms don't seem to last all that long, and I had to get the throttle body replaced twice already.
I have the 2016. Had an issue with a seized caliper that took me forever and 1 new caliper and 2 rotors later to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it (new brake line and loosening the clip a smidge fixed it). Other than that just regular maintenance type issues
My sister used to have one of these & from what she told me about it; I'd have to agree with you! Now I want you to do a high miles review on my 2016 Toyota Carolla Sport with over 200,000 miles on it.
I have a 2011 Jeep Patriot latitude X automatic 2wd. My wife bought it new before I knew her. I have inherited it. It’s got 132k miles on it. Runs great. I hate the car as it’s slow and zero technology in it. However I can’t complain about it as it’s just keeps driving. Only major issues was I did have to recently replace ball barring.
The CVT transmission is horrible. We had 3 different ones for company cars. All three lost their transmissions at around that 150k mark. The replacement transmissions are no better!
Have an 09 FWD auto cvt, with under 50k miles. AC & heat are very weak. Has a hi whine sound on the road at any speed. Could be the trans???? It is hard to get in or out for tall people, tail lights burn out frequently but are easy to change. Not fuel efficient. Rear drum brakes, not great stopping power. Ok for the price paid with only 20k original miles at purchase. Concerned about whine noise when driving. Repair shops want $200+ to diagnose the cause....
I sold my 2015. Big mistake. It was probably the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned minus the crap I did to it lol. I just recently bought a 2015 with 92k miles. Only things that needed replacing was all the brakes and the rear wheel bearings. Nice and quiet down the road now.
Hi. I have a 2015 patriot 2.4 automatic is running good. That only problem I have for 4 years is de suspension and body rusting I have in the rear fender . I do my own macanic work. Wish I saved money on that. But in the future I going to buy a real Jeep. Thanks.
I agree, my 2014 performs just fine. I think it's a perception issue - reviewers always expect a vehicle with economical gas mileage to perform like a muscle car. It drives me nuts that they can't make a contextual comparison.
Do you remember there was a Saturn that had a Honda engine? When you say you want to like this car I am thinking the same thing but these cars need to have something better and proven underneath. Like that Saturn/Honda thing. I remember test driving it and the Honda engine ran great but there was so much noise in the cabin from bad interior design.
i just bought a compass north edition 2.4 manual with 4x4, the transmissions were the only major issues with these vehicles the motors are actually pretty good, even the manuals werent safe, the outer bearings suffered a design flaw (possibly moreso on certain years before it was caught) where the outer bearings get no oil, if you find it difficult to put it in a certain gear or it pops out of reverse its because the loose bearings are causing a misalignment if you replace the outer bearings soon enough you wont have to take the trans apart apart from that theyre generally reliable, to be fair alot of vehicles from that timespan had bad trannies
I just bought a CVT one for 5K and so far it's ok. But there is a rich gas smell at start up and the gascap error msg.. I'll just have to pray that life is different in a few years with Bitcoin blasting off and this Jeep just has to last another 4 or 5 years. Whatever, right?
Just don't tow with the manual Patriot. 2000 pound towing capacity ? Give me a break ! My Toyota Rav 4 with 33 more HP only tows up to 1700 pounds. I towed with the Manual Patriot , towed a 16 foot Aluminum boat , probably 700 pounds total weight with engine , trailer and the clutch went out at 26,000 miles. 6 months before that the transmission blew up and they had to repair. I've driven manual cars since 1987 , put at least 150,000 miles on a 1992 Mitsuibisi Mirage , drove it like a maniac to work everyday and never needed to change the clutch.Drove a 2001 Hyundai Accent for 125000 miles when the clutch went out , probably driving up mountains did it. after losing the clutch at 26,000 miles I gave up and traded it in to Carvana and purchased a 2017 Kia Sedona with 32,000 miles, about what the Patriot had and it ended up a wash, I paid no more than I would've if I purchased the Minivan new. Cost $18,000 for Patriot, got $11.500 from Carvana, purchased the used Kia Sedona for $20000. Patriot is nice looking, simple, with horrible mechanicals. The Minivan gets about the same gas mileage , The Patriot engine is a gas guzzler . Never regretted selling the Patriot.
I bought a brand new automatic 2014 patriot latitude forward, I drove it for 12 years. Probably I spent more money fixing it than the retail price. It is garbage
No sir they have 2 automatic transmission one is a CVT transmission and the other is a good 6 speed transmission from Kia/ Hyundai I know I own one, yes I would not buy one with a CVT transmission
junk for you great for me,,,,,,,i ve been driving a patriot for well over 3yrs now with a CVT......I had one issue with it a wire that failed and the CVT would no longer shift........found the failed wire and bypassed it with a new one an its never let me down since.....................if people would drive these jeeps with common sense and not beat the crap out of them......and do the .....OIL CHANGES,,,,,,,every 40 000 Km or so they will last,,,,,,,,,,,i am living proof folks,,,,,,,,,,keep in mind that these jeeps were ......NOT MADE for fast and hard driving ,,,,,,,,,or else buy a wrangler or whatever,,,,,,,,,,
I have the 2016. Had an issue with a seized caliper that took me forever and 1 new caliper and 2 rotors later to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it (new brake line and loosening the clip a smidge fixed it). Other than that just regular maintenance type issues
I saw this Patriot and just assumed it was an automatic. I was so happy to see it was a manual. Basically that is all that saved it for me.
Mine is automatic and has the “manual “ option.

I dont normally watch these reviews, but my wifes gonna need a new vehicle soon, you can find these cheaper and in decent shape arpund here. I was wondering if they were much good. This video helped me with that, im always leery of anything cvt
Don’t get the CVT. 6 speed automatic combined with the 2.4 L engine (gasoline) is most reliable. I’ve seen a few with 350k kilometers
Zero Electronic issues so far. I have a 2007 with 5 speed manual and the 2.4 motor. 324,000 miles. Transmission rebuilt at 200,000 and is now out again.
I have a 2016 patriot with 50,000 miles. I've had seized calipers front and back. EVAP issues. Spark plug issues. It's been a nightmare.
I have the 2016. Had an issue with a seized caliper that took me forever and 1 new caliper and 2 rotors later to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it (new brake line and loosening the clip a smidge fixed it). Other than that just regular maintenance type issues
These cars are quick, they just need to be driven a certain way. Stems from the 4 cylinder
My sister used to have one of these & from what she told me about it; I'd have to agree with you!
Now I want you to do a high miles review on my 2016 Toyota Carolla Sport with over 200,000 miles on it.
Its a toyota, it runs and the dash likely doesn't rattle, what more can you say 😅
Currently in a 2016 jeep patriot with 83k and ive had to replace the throttle body and the lower control arms. Other than that been solid.
2017 and no issues - thank God
I have a 2011 Jeep Patriot latitude X automatic 2wd. My wife bought it new before I knew her. I have inherited it. It’s got 132k miles on it. Runs great. Damn radio sucks ive had my 16 for 6 years great vehicle but keep up the maintenance stay on top of it
the back seats do recline a smidge! it helps immensely!
The CVT transmission is horrible. We had 3 different ones for company cars. All three lost their transmissions at around that 150k mark. The replacement transmissions are no better!
What about the version with the 2.2 mercedes engine? Its 6 speed and cvt! Is that just a euro version? My one is 2011

Buy.
I like these, I'd drive one of these.
CVT or 6 speed PowerTech, Hyundai automatic basically.

Hmm.... I have a Jeep Patriot and I love it. I don't know why your's wouldn't go fast. Mine sure does. It has a lot of power.

Power seats lowered is the best. I’m on my second 2014. 102.000mi. I’m thinking of giving it back to the bank. 2.0 motor. 2wd. I owe 14,000 on it yet
Wow...i bought my 2010 2.0 2wd @90,500 miles last year....no problems at all. $5000 bucks with a new trans in it.
i just bought a compass north edition 2.4 manual with 4x4, the transmissions were the only major issues with these vehicles the motors are actually pretty good, even the manuals werent safe, the outer bearings suffered a design flaw (possibly moreso on certain years before it was caught) where the outer bearings get no oil, if you find it difficult to put it in a certain gear or it pops out of reverse its because the loose bearings are causing a misalignment if you replace the outer bearings soon enough you wont have to take the trans apart
apart from that theyre generally reliable, to be fair alot of vehicles from that timespan had bad trannies
Even then i would argue the trans isn't really problematic. This same trans was used in all kinds of hyundai vehicles as well with no issue.
I just bought a CVT one for 5K and so far it's ok. But there is a rich gas smell at start up and the gascap error msg.. I'll just have to pray that life is different in a few years with Bitcoin blasting off and this Jeep just has to last another 4 or 5 years. Whatever, right?
Gas cap error usually from locking caps. Just replace it

Modern day, Jeep XJ 🚙

Dang i just bought one for $4500
Dont buy CVT transmission on these cars its gonna be a pain in the xxx soon or later.
Junk😂

Based on what? Your mom?
