When you warp, you don't really warp. Your consciousness travels to the you in another similar universe. You slip into the place of the you in another universe, but you pshysically don't go anywhere. The shift is so subtle that noone even notices it. What she meant by "you aren't the same Dandy" is that the Dandy she knew warped at some point, shifting his consciousness to a Dandy in another universe, who is technically a different Dandy. The split screen helps a little if you pay attention to which Dandy is talking and how he fades in and out.
And the key to it all is that warping doesn't exist from the perspective of Dandy. It's only the 4-D Catherine who can observe the 3-D space being irrevocably changed, for Dandy, it's like nothing ever happened. Every time a "warp" occurs, the entire universe shifts to become a new one.
I still bring myself to rewatch the show after a while, something ive been repeating these past 10 years, thats how much this show stuck with me, man its kinda painful how it didnt got a s3 or a movie for a final closure... but it is what it is, Dandy forever, baby!
So, loverboy here and the rest of us 3D dandies can only move in variations of left-right, up-down, back-forward, but Catherine with the voice, being 4D, has two extra movements. It's why it looks like she's moving through herself. I wonder how she refers to movements of 4D+ and 4D-. Moving on, she looks like that because that's all we can see of her sexy 4D bod intersecting our way of existsing. Universe N is completely vulnerable to universe N + 1. She can see us, but we can't see her. "Warping" seems to take advantage of their being infinite universes in which you've already traveled to where you want to go, but the "you" that got there isn't the one that wanted to make the trip. You leave behind the person wanting to depart and become the person who completed the journey. Poor Catherine, being a tier above, can see the difference. Right or wrong--this episode has the effect of making you want to empathize.
What REALLY sells this scene is the fact that they finish each other's thoughts. They really are in love with each other... or technically Dandy with Catherine, and Catherine with the other Dandy... and know each other that well. The tear shed by Catherine and the expressions are great too. I'm seeing this in a vacuum without the rest of the episode, and I'm still going to save it to my "Awesome" playlist because of how well it's done.
This episode - especially this and the intro scenes - had such a beautiful, melancholy atmosphere that left it as one of the most powerful episodes from the series for me. Thanks for uploading it.
I know very little of Space Dandy, and this scene sets up and explains everything well enough that I understand what happened. And what makes it even better is the high quality voice acting combined with scripting that makes it clear how the characters understand each other.
I have noticed from person to person they all have different top 5 moments. My old roommate loved the limbo episode and would probably place one or two of his top moments from that episode alone. For me, maybe not at all. You get moments that read to you and not at all to others. There is a moment for everyone and that is part of the beauty to this chaotic mess of a show.
I didn't realize that Space Dandy got to be like this. I kinda fell off the show... midway through the first season, maybe? Didn't dislike it, but sorta just let it drift away. Might have to fix that.
Every Episode has a different director with Watanabe being the chief overlooking it all. So each episode is different, some are told serious while others are absurd jokes built for laughter. I'd recommend giving the series another shot. Not every episode will hit as each one is so different from each other. It's essentially a collection of short stories with each episode following a different Universe's Dandy. Anyway, good luck out there boss, and remember to stay Dandy.
One of my favorite shows of all time. So glad this scene was uploaded on its own. It really stuck with me!
Its wayyyy too good

Top 5 anime for myself. Absolute CINEMA
My friends don't understand why I love this show but this is a top 5 reason why I love it.

It's interesting because objectively speaking she's completely wrong about dandy due to the last episode.
