  • I've had a problem with the caravan jockey wheel. Although the wheel spins freely, the shaft that turns as the wheel changes direction is not.
After some research, the best thing to use is Lithium grease.
Have a look yourself; this is the product I purchased from Amazon:

Hello again Graham. Just been watching you grease the threads of the jockey wheel lower tube. You put plenty on….that’s great. If you don’t mind me saying so, what you should also do is grease the threads of the winder shaft. To do this you need something like a hacksaw blade heavily smeared with grease and poke it in between the winder shaft and the upper tube. This way you get to grease the whole of the winder mechanism and not just the welded in nut and bottom few inches of the threaded shaft. With any jockey wheel you only use the top few inches of thread anyway unless your parked on a slope. All the same Graham, good blogg, always interesting and entertaining. many thanks Alan.

that video was so quick it was like greased Lightning😂

You need the front wheel off a road roller for your off road manouvering🤗

I stopped using mine for I had the same problem I found when you clamp the jockey wheel it seems to jam up even with lots of grease i now use the AL KO shaft with just the Kart wheel works perfectly, love your channel

Great vlog Graham. I've got a similar problem, but I've got the Alko jockey wheel. Guessing it must be a common fault. I've ordered the grease anyway 🤔

Hi Graham. I had the same issue with the original Kartt jockey wheel. We also have a gravel drive. What appeared to be happening was the wheel dug into the deeper parts of the gravel and strained the down tube. You could see the tube under stress as it struggled with the weight of the van and the wheel digging in. All this appeared to distort the roundness of the down tube itself and the area of the tube where the slots are to locate the jockey wheel was starting to dig into the inner tube itself. The effect of this was the inner tube wasn’t turning freely. I looked at grease and even bought some, but decided to speak with Kartt first. They were great tbh and eventually I ended up with the new wider jockey wheel assembly that you have. I felt the wider wheel would help it to not dig into the gravel so much. I also rake the gravel so the line I use for the caravan is shallower. So far, it appears to be working and the new wheel is better but it’s something I’m monitoring. Apologies for the long explanation! I must be a fellow jockey wheel nerd 😂 Alan

I had exactly the same problem which turned out to be the outer/female part of the shaft had bent. Given I bought it at the start of covid you can imagine how much use it got a year later. Kartt asked me to send it to them at my expense and if they didn’t see a problem as a result of their misgivings I’d foot the bill for return postage. I didn’t fancy my options so ended up using an old outer, and much cheaper, jockey wheel for a stronger fix. I’ll never buy a Kartt again.

  • @Andeecee

Good vlog Graham. Did the grease stop the problem? As others have said, the outer shaft can get slightly bent. This then stops the inner shaft from moving freely.

  • @retro423

Did you set the clamp to the correct torque when tightening the handle? this must always be done without question

  • @rhinogooner

Is that your dog? Do you not take him with you? The reason we got into caravanning was when all the offspring left home there was no one to look after our dogs when we went on holiday. So my good lady said ‘ let’s get a caravan and take them with us’. We don’t do kennels dogs are family. Well wish we had bought a van years ago we love it. And the rest they say is history.

I have problems along the same lines with my Kartt wheel , which is the same as yours but newer in fact, to be honest I am not impressed with them at all.
