Criminally underrated.
Indeed. One of the best movies ever made! It's a perfect movie. Revolutionary and that's why some "people" made unfair criticism at imdb. Deserves surely at least 1-1.5 more stars

St Patrick's Day in Texas is a holiday for amateur drinkers, so my traditional observance is to stay home, pour myself a whiskey, and queue up 'Michael Collins'. My March 17 temporary Facebook cover photo is usually a still of Alan Rickman as Eamon De Valera, in a trenchcoat, standing in front of a giant Irish flag slowly flapping in the wind, and shouting, "This treaty... bars the way to the Republic!" You know the scene.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a Protestant, and, with a mind perhaps to a bit of "Belfast efficiency" (you know that scene too), the whiskey is Bushmills, what one Dubliner of my acquaintance a while back denounced as "the Protestant whiskey". Don't you judge me.
Great movie!! But sadly really underrated... I think it's a masterpiece, easily one of Liam Neeson's best performances🇮🇪☘️
This was a fantastic movie. Very sad though.
Even if you don't care about history, this is worth it for the cast alone. But the history it covers is incredibly pivotal.

@@johnmcquade329 Are you out of your mind? The Irish were a constant thorn in the psychopath's side, but the monarchy never once brought to bear it's full might against the Irish. Had Collins refused the treaty and opted for open war against the Brits, every house, every building, every man woman and child of Ireland would have been leveled (and then repopulated by Brits and conquered Scots).
The only reason a truce was called (temporarily) was because the Brits believed the Irish could last a good long time - but they had little munitions remaining. The Brits weren't low on munitions or rations. They controlled 2/3 of the planet. What EXACTLY do you think would have happened to the Irish had Collins not negotiated this deal? Far fewer of us would be here today.
They were fools to reject the treaty, they could have grown FAR STRONGER under the guise of peace and later rebelled after they had populated the world. Look what they did to JFK. Vigilance.
