A theory that I whole heartedly believe is that since the funeral, none of the Usher kids have had any sleep. We don't notice it that much with the first couple of kids since they were early on but there are signs with all of them and as time passes the older kids have to deal with hallucinations/losing their sanity: -We see Perry awake in his bed while the rest of his "cuddle puddle" were sleeping. -Camille makes a comment about her head hurting and wanting to sleep. -Leo has to take a coma-inducing amount of drugs to get any rest and it still didn't help -(ok, I did forget Vic's evidence besides her hallucinating and also having headaches; been a while since I watched the show) -Tammy's, of course, is the most evident of just not sleeping at all -And no spoilers needed for Froderick since he's so strung up on drugs and losing his shit that it's pretty clear he isn't getting any rest.
❤Poe😊 Tamerlane is a poem by Poe about a power hungry conqueror that wants independence to rule his own kingdom/empire. It has themes of pride and loneliness (based on a true Tarter ruler named Tamerlane) and the Gold Bug is a tale of paranoia, madness and misperception. The man character wants to redeem his family and their fortune/place in society thru a gold bug he believes is solid gold. It is not solid gold just gold colored. Basically a Mashup of this character Tami's obsession with creating her own empire and her single minded pursuit of her empire. "All that glitters is not gold is the message and the ruthless way Tami chose to pursue her unrealized empire.
Despite all of the references by name, I actually would argue that this episode is a lot closer to William Wilson, in which the protagonist starts seeing a doppelgänger and goes mad from it until he kills them/himself.
in the beginning when he's holding those sapphires or whatever they were and he's covered in blood and he says he reached through time... that reminds me of a line from Midnight Mass (also by Flanagan) Lisa says, "you reached through time Joe Collie"
Mark Hammill's character Arthur Gordon Pym comes from Poe's influential and infamous and singular (as in, the only full-length novel he ever wrote) The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. The "TransGlobe Expedition" is a reference of this novel, which begins as a travelogue of Arthur Pym's adventures on the Grampus, a ship that starts at the port of Nantucket, heading for the South Pole... but the story does not END as a travalogue. When the book was first published, people believed the last chapter has somehow been forgotten, but the book famously has no ending as it descends into what would later be considered cosmic horror (Poe basically invented it in the final chapters of the book).
Strangely enough this episode is not based on the Goldbug story at all, but William Wilson instead. It's basically about a guy meeting a doppelganger who slowly but surely starts looking and acting more and more like him. The doppel keeps on appearing where William goes and calls out his misdeeds until William has enough and kills him. Then a mirror appears. The story ends with his own bloody reflection talking to him, heavily implying that he has killed himself.
I felt worse for Tammy because her brother comments that their dad always pitted her against him and that he always made sure to give her always just a liiiiitle less of everything to make his elder son feel more respected, toyint with her feelings, which made her become obsessed with control and mistrust any form of affection. That's why the more Bill says he loves her and tries to support and make her feel safe, the more insecure and mistrusting she feels about him, being only able to hear what he has to say when she has him say those things to other women. I felt pretty bad for Bill, too, because he trully seemed to love and support her.
Goldbug is the Poe story I am least familiar with, but the themes of obsession and self-destruction are very him. Samantha Sloane crushes her episode, and I felt bad for her watching the descend into madness (which is a feat considering how much I hated Bev)
This episode is not based on that story, since Goldbug is more about a treasure hunt. What it's really based on is a story called William Wilson (the name they gave to Tamerlane's husband). About a man who meets someone who looks exactly like himself.
Respectfully, I don’t think Tammy had a fetish. I think she genuinely cant process emotional connection in a healthy way. She can only experience intimacy as a third party, as a viewer. I believe it comes from the trauma of her parent’s divorce, which we haven’t seen in the show.
You felt more for her this episode partially because she has been in more episodes, and you had more background of her life. Verna gave all the children a chance for redemption and the chance for an easy death. But they didn't listen.
I believe Bill WAS there but he left after she was horrible to him. she didn’t start actually opening up to him till she drove him away and he left his key.
To truly appreciate the last episode, if you have time, read the raven by poe. It will make you appreciate the story so much more. By the way, Verna is just Raven spelled differently. "Nevermore " you'll get this reference soon 😊
"They really should have shown the kids the photo of Verna" The reason they can't is that they still believe at that point that one of the kids is talking to the feds and that photo has quite a rat's tail behind it. I know it's been months but for some reason I had a need to point that out.
Theres actually a dark history of too many mirrors in a building facing each other. . . It was a bigger superstitious thing back when Edgar Allen Poe was alive than it is today.
@TBR - SCHMITT If you want, you can give the reaction of the upcoming Bangladeshi action movie. I would like you to give a reaction to the movie of our country. Which, by the way, was Tamerlaine's husband's name.
I can’t wait until you both see the next one. Has the best Verna monologue in the series.
Thr performances from the whole cast are amazing.
I like how Samantha's headset matches TBR's outfit. I don't know if you guys did that on purpose, but I'm digging the matching couple vibe.

With some thinking that Verna might be the very same entity that Pym met, "coming top-side" in a different form.

Who is William Wilson?
@@eddietucker7005 I describe who he is after the first sentence :p
Good point since Tamerlane's husband is Bill T Wilson

The image on the thumbnail can mean only one thing: This episode must be very good.
So much depth makes this series eminently rewatch able.
Agreed Shame it's not available on DVD/BluRay. 😔💔
My thought is this is her vanity, hence all of the mirrors and her product.
Favorite episode
'' Once Upon A Time In America '' is a must watch.
The actors who play Juno and Tami are both in Midnight Club. Ruth Codd who plays Juno is fantastic in that show.

I love how each sibling is designated a color
Perry - red
Camille - white
Leo - yellow
Vic - orange
Tammy - green
Freddy - blue
Funny that you call my two favorite episodes “slow” 😅. It’s going to be interesting to hear what you think of the next two!
Brilliant show, great reaction.
Loved the series, and really enjoying watching with you guys... especially on a Fri night😊
Absolutely love it
Daniel coughing during Tamerlane's presentation like he was an extra sitting at the back of the gym in a Simpson's school meeting was pure gold.

Please react to movie HIDALGO, you are going to absolutely love it I promise. It is about the Horse named Hidalgo, with Viggo Mortenson.
I am so excited to see your reaction to the last two episodes! it only gets more intense from here on out! 😄

The next episode as the worst or best death depending how you look at it.
You should watch the problem child movies
Goop in gwen Paltrow brand
Second!
If you guys want a good scare you should react to the Paranormal Activity franchise!
…no
Although they're a bit scary, i think they will have fun and enjoy them
