@@Dvrth just caught this video and loved your reaction. Jawaiian is a genre of pop music in Hawaii, with reggae roots from Jamaica. Bob Marley's rhythm is highly influential there. Def Tech took inspiration from the Jawaiian style and made it their own and released a few albums in Japan during the mid 2000's. I was already an adult when they were performing so I find it amusing how you describe it as a classic. 😆
I'm surprised that it's been 15 years since I was listening to Def Tech's My Way. It was used as the theme song for a show featuring high school baseball, so this song reminds me of summer (since the Japanese high school baseball tournament is held in summer). The positive lyrics would be a message for kids who are practicing baseball hard every day. The Japanese high school baseball tournament is the gateway to becoming a professional baseball player. Every year 4,000 schools qualify for the tournament, and only 49 schools are selected from that pool. There are 200,000 students across the country who aspire to make it to the tournament. And only about 700 students are able to participate in this tournament. And from there, only about 80 persons are selected in the draft. And only about one in every five years makes it to the MLB. This song is a message to the 200,000 kids who practice for more than five hours every day to grab that dream.
I've been a fan of Def Tech since high school. I'm a Black American thats been into J-Rap and J-R&B for a LONG time. (今日本語が喋リます)You should look into Crystal Kay, Double, Kohh, Ai, Thelma Aoyama, MISIA, Aisha, M-Flo, etc. They're AMAZING.
Same here..i mean Fan of J-rap and J-R&B but I'm white Australian. I loved R&B and Rap during the 90's, that's when it peaked but midway through 2000's it was fading and i've then been getting into Japanese music. In the names you mentioned, I only listened to Thelma Aoyama. I've listened to Soulja, Shota Shimizu, Seamo, Home Made Kazeku, Halcali..i think that's it. I am going to listen to those other Artists you mentioned :)
Oh that’s easy lol I’ve always been a HUGE fan of music and music theory. I’ve also always loved anime and, whilst usually not direct copies, Japanese culture. I’ve loved both those things since I was able to talk so naturally I was also a big fan of Japanese and generally eastern music as a whole.
The genre is called Jawaiian reggae. The guy on the left is from Hawaii.
THATS IT!!!! Reggae how tf did my brain not come to that conclusion 🤦🏾♂️ thank you for this

Have you ever studied Japanese? Can you understand the lyrics in Japanese?
How did you come to know this song? Why did you decide to listen?
I don’t speak Japanese but if I ever get enough time I do wanna learn. And I saw this because I’m subbed to The First Take and they have great artists
@@Dvrth Thanks for your quick response! I wanted to know how you became interested in Japanese songs, even though you don't understand Japanese.
