  • In a significant breach of privacy and intellectual property rights, BTS faced a major issue when an individual, referred to as Mr. B, was sentenced for impersonating members of the band. The impersonator, who had been posing as BTS members Suga and Taehyung, illegally obtained unreleased music demos and private details about the members' military service.
Mr. B was apprehended and prosecuted in January 2024, resulting in a one-year prison sentence for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection. He had initially appealed this decision, but on May 16, the Criminal Appeal Department 5-2 of the Seoul Central District Court upheld the original sentence, reaffirming his one-year imprisonment.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges celebrities face in protecting their personal information and creative works from unauthorized access and exploitation.
