  • As Covid-19 vaccines make it into more and more people's arms, you may be hearing that the second dose can be a little rough. But, while it may be unpleasant, these intense side-effects are actually a sign that the vaccines are working. And there may be even more good news when it comes to people who've already had COVID-19 getting the vaccine.

    remember folks, the symptoms of illness, the aches, pains, fever, etc. That's your immune system working, that isn't the virus itself making you feel that way, that's your body's defenses kicking on and a sign that it's taking the threat against you seriously.

    • @Aereto
      @Aereto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      And the immune response is energy intensive, which will tire out people who don't have the energy budget.
      Especially for long distance commuters. Drive with caution.

    • @OrangeFluffyCat
      @OrangeFluffyCat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      @Jd504 I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but when it’s the actual virus replicating inside you and not just a harmless spike protein, the symptoms can be much worse, can linger and do possibly permanent damage to lungs and brain, and there’s a statistically significant change of dying.

    • @OrangeFluffyCat
      @OrangeFluffyCat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @Jd504 let me put it this way, it’s like a fire drill VS an actual fire. You (your immune system) may respond the same way to both, but you’re only in real danger from one of those scenarios.
      Unless you’re immune system over-reacts to the drill, which can happen, but is still far less likely than being seriously hurt from the actual real deal.

    • @glenngriffon8032
      @glenngriffon8032 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @Jd504 It's a bit like a sparring match vs being in a genuine fight. You might get a bruise or get punched hard during a sparring match but when it comes to a genuine, all out brawl you're gonna be happy you trained first and got ready.
      That's what a vaccine is, it's like a false flag attack on your own body. You make your own body think that it's under attack from something so it will build it's defenses and study the invader you told it is coming. Then your immune system sits ready and waiting for the day and if the virus does just so happen to enter your body it doesn't stand a chance because you got your defenses ready.

    • @glenngriffon8032
      @glenngriffon8032 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@OrangeFluffyCat and yeah you're right about the fire drill analogy. A fire drill is everyone practicing what to do in order to get ready. An actual fire though involves smoke and heat and flames and a potential loss of air.
      A vaccine is tricking your body into thinking it's being attacked so it puts up a fight but there's no real danger. An actual really real viral attack involves the cells of your body being damaged and destroyed and other cells being diverted from their jobs to make more viruses.
      Only difference is that your immune system cells won't panic cause the building is actually on fire.

      Does your first dose also have intense side effects? Im curious if the "second dose effect" only amplifies from the 1st one, in other word your 1st shot will determine if the 2nd one will be intense or not.

    • @mastelsa
      @mastelsa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@Crustee0 I can't say on a really large scale. The people I know who have gotten a first dose (n=6) have all had muscle ache at the injection site and only one had any other symptoms with the first dose (some lightheadedness and fatigue later in the day.)
      The experience among my friends and coworkers who have gotten a second dose (n = 5) was that it hit us 12-14 hours after the shot and laid us out for at least 24 hours, except for one of my coworkers who did not have any side effects. Another of my coworkers took more like 48 hours to recover and was still fatigued for a couple of days afterward. The way I'd describe it is like having half the flu. Everyone in this group had nothing but arm muscle soreness after the first injection. I was personally expecting a reaction closer to what I get with a flu vaccine (which is to say, none at all), so it took me by surprise.
      There is absolute consensus between all of us that we would not hesitate a second to go through it again in order to not get covid.

      No chance of forming tumors. It codes for foreign spike proteins. Tumors are comprised of your own cells, which is why your immune system has a hard time detecting them. The lipid coating is to prevent the RNA from being degraded in your blood and to allow it into the cell. Without the lipid coating, it doesn’t do any harm. It just fails to give immunity.

      You think about it. When people gain immunity, they may produce different antibodies that attach to different parts of the virus. Some may go for specific shell proteins or the genetic trackers packaged alongside viral genes. The spike protein was specifically chosen as it rarely mutates as a large mutation would change how pathogenic it would be, possibly making it less virulent. The vaccine would then give one a much better and longer lasting immune response than rolling the dice and hoping to produce antibodies that lasted through the next set of mutations the virus acquired.

      I’m a clinician who has been administering COVID vaccines for a few weeks in WV, and from what I’ve seen both anecdotally and in some statistics, The Pfizer vaccine has lower rates of side effects, but is slightly less effective overall (see comparison for mild vs severe COVID rates post-vaccine). The Moderna vaccine has higher rates of side effects but seems to be more effective- which is like why it has more side effects, it is evoking a stronger immune response. Of course this is based on developing information and is subject to change, but it’s a talking point I remember in case any of my patients have questions.

It's not perfect, but it'll protect you a hell of a lot better than running into battle wearing naught but a flapping loincloth. Without the vaccine, we are only naked fools, and easy prey for the rona.
      If you only look at reinfections, you're not looking at the main thing the vaccines were designed to do: prevent Covid from causing hospitalization and death. At this, it's been PHENOMENAL. Every single type of vaccine has had almost a 100% rate of keeping people from being hospitalized and dying from covid. Got my first Pfizer covid vaccine yesterday afternoon. My friend and I went together in case one of us reacted. We are both senior citizens he 72, me 68. We waited 25 minutes with no symptoms, then I drove us home. We called one another in the evening to "compare any side effects". We both had very sore stiff necks and it hurt to move our necks much. We both started to have soreness in both arms, but the arm we got the vaccine in was more sore, Both of us had "heavy very tired feeling" in both of our legs. We both felt kind of sore aching in general. Tonight we compared symptoms again. His symptoms were all gone, my neck is still stiff, but not as bad, my legs still feel a bit 'heavy" but not as bad. I feel rather tired and worn out. Anyone else get the stiff neck deal? I keep reading info on side effects of covid vaccine and haven't found anything about the stiff neck.

      @@jamisonw.327 My opinion - but what if it has to do with viral load.. if the virus or whatever reproduces quickly in your body it will create a cytokine storm reaction.. Also this virus doesn't kill you apparently.. it's the onset of pneumonia caused by the virus.. so maybe the vaccine will always be safe in this scenario UNLESS you don't even get sick from the real virus because of reasons. I mean in the end we have prevented many deaths.. only 10% of USA population got infected. But now imagine if at least 50% were infected. That's 2 million deaths.
