This has confirmed why I have decided to focus on teens and children like these who have not been given the skills to survive on their own before they age out. Thank you for the reminder as to why I chose to become a foster parent :)
Shaquana rocks!! And all the other foster kids, too. I want to say 'special'..but hey..they're ALL special. One cannot help but be moved to hear the stories and learn of the struggles of these remarkable young people. We, as older adults, have a responsibility to love and care for them. So, in turn they not only have a voice which is are heard, but that in time... their dreams are realized.
I admire you Sheqwana!!! If it is hard taking care of young children, it should be double hard to do so having all that heavy emotional weight in your soul, having not had the moral support of a mother as a child yourself! God bless you!
When I was 5, I already made the decision to have a foster care. At 16, I knew I wanted to work with LGBTQ+ Youth and those with special needs. Now my partner and I already have started making plans. My friends and family shouldn't have had to go through what they did and if I can help, I will.
People are people and kids are kids..none of that should matter and it breaks my heart that so many kids are rejected for just being themselves. This is one of the reasons I started the foster/ adoption process. KIDS....I SEEE YOU.. I don’t care what the race or gender or gender you identify with. You are worthy of love. I hope my home is opened soon.
i knew one of the ppl in that video. i had no idea that she was going through that. i met Shaquana in high school and we briefly talked but i was hiding alot as well. Its crazy how life is if i had open up to her bout what i jus went through we could of been closer. shout out to everybody going through this or something of this nature. just keep your head up high cuz God loves all his children!! trust!
Im sorry about the hurtful names you have been called. I have a name for you - God's Special Angel. Taking care of yourself and sisters. Amazing. Never give up!
I would support anyone brave enough to be themselves. My oldest grand kid is gay born a female and associates as a boy. I would support anyone. Especially foster kids it’s hard enough on them to find love and then have parents who r absent
Don't you think there is a misconception on fostering, due to the misunderstanding of the sexual tendency of a potential foster parent??. You can be gay, or lesbian and this is not at all related to abuse or to affecting the natural sexuality of the child that is being fostered. Abuse will always be bad. The same if it is committed by a lesbian or by a straight. Love and care will always be good even if it comes from the hunchback of Notredame. Any human being that has become independent and that has gained living stability should be able to foster a child. I do agree they should pass by certain test such as having a minimum income, a psychology test that proves the person does not suffer from any psychopathic instability. After those issues are surpassed, government should start to place the many needy boys and girls in new homes. I would even set kind of a recipe for an initial adaptation guide. I would implement an initial set of courses and a program of support. That would better significantly the situation.
As soon as your $value to them is diminished, you age out.. The majority throw them out as soon as they can't get $$ from them anymore.. The only 1s that benefits from that system long term, is the workers with hefty salaries! It should be done out of love for children.. Not something you should expect to make a living from.. Most of the time you hardly see the workers anyways! So i don't see why they should be paid more, than the children themsleves! If a child on independent living is expected to live off of 700$/month(to stay in school, pay rent, eat, clothing, toiletries, utilities, school books, etc), the workers should be able to get by on the same amount.. They know you can't budget with that.. They just dgaf.. The workers should be paid the same amount! It doesn't make any sense!
