@@bigork2099 Nathaniel Philbrick’s In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex was the true story of Moby Dick! It was excellent and an easy read. I think they made a movie of this book with one of the Hemsworth brothers.
@@bigork2099 I'd say the Gene Wolfe's The Book of the New Sun books are tough. They are readable in a way but only when I got the companion book by Michael Andre-Driussi it made me realize I hadn't really understood anything.
Great list ! Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on these favorites, our taste is very similar but I have only dipped a toe into the waters of my reading journey compared to you. Many added to my Want to Read list! The Book Thief made me cry as well, a rare feat. Loved A Gentleman in Moscow, All the Light, The Road, so many more on here, and am currently reading Lonesome Dove and blown away by McMurtry's epic. Cheers
What an incredible list of books! Thank you for another awesome video! Happy to say that Memory Sorrow and Thorn is on my tbr for 2024 along with Lonesome Dove. I watched Winds of War mini series many years ago so can only imagine how much better the book will be.
Thanks! I am excited to try your recommendations. The breadth is somewhat surprising, and you have provided a spark to try more mysteries and westerns - maybe a ww2 historic too. Sword of Shannara was my first book purchase too, and also holds a place in my heart. Pillars of the Earth...wow that was amazing. George R.R. schools Sanderson for me so far.
@@ibrahimchaiben8127Its missing Blood Meridian and he had McCarthy on his list. I did not see anything from Dostoevsky either and he is the greatest fiction writer ever according to many. But its his list and he did homage to his favorites and never said it was the greatest 100, just HIS greatest 100.
Bro, Thank you. Because of you, I read more! And more good stuff since I pick titles right from your shelves. Including Donaldson's Gap Series. A great author at his peak, and some of the best reading I've enjoyed.
What a great list of pop fiction-- informative and I found myself nodding in agreement on so many titles. Especially I'm a huge fan of McMurtry, James Michner, Frank Herbert, Ken Follet, Tolkien, Stephen King, Asimov and so many of your choices. If I were to make a list, I'd put them in alphabetical order by genre. It's too difficult to choose the best except Dune is my personal favorite of all time. Found at least 20 authors of interest from your list. Your rapid fire, to the point descriptions are truly appreciated.!
Great Video Mr. Durfee. I loved it. I have probably read only 30 percent of those books but looking forward to reading some of the ones you have on this list now. I do have a suggestion if you don't mind. For your next top 100 if you could not add any Stephen King Books. NOT because I dislike him. The opposite. My favorite author of all time. I also belive he is yours as I have seen in the past you post all your Stephen King books ranked. I also just watched your top 100 sci-fi which I also loved. Keep up the great work. I just ordered your trilogy will hopefully read it before this summer comes.
I really like you sir. I'm trying to start reading as an adult more regularly. Particularly books I should've read earlier lol. I love your enthusiasm and humour. It's inspiring and relaxes me when I'm stressed. I have a few of the books you mentioned on my list such as Moby Dick, Lord of the Flies, The Dark Tower, The Martian, Dune, The Da Vinci Code, A Game of Thrones, War and Peace, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pillars of the Earth and Lonesome Dove. I can't wait to read them all! I've also read a couple of the books you mentioned in Gone Girl and Lord of the Rings. It was a while ago but I remember being really engaged. Also loved The Hobbit :) I'm currently reading The New Kingdom by Wilbur Smith as I'm studying Ancient Egypt. So thought I'd read a novel set in this period :)
I just found your channel via my revived love for King. The Stand has been my favorite since I read it. I am looking for others to read both King and not. There are several here that sound interesting. Thanks for this.
I just found your channel and this video was awesome! I loved your choice of books and authors, namely, Moby Dick, Rendezvous with Rama, Foundation, Anna Karenina, The Name of the Rose, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, Stephen King's novels...The writers you mentioned that I have not read yet I added to my '"To read next" list. The only great, if not the greatest writer of all time missing here is Feodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky!
This is a first video of yours i watched and I love it. Very specific. Few titles sounds very interesting and I’ve never heard of them. Time to read some books. Have a nice day.
You always have cool shirts on Brian. I actually have the H.E.R signature Stratocaster, which has a beautiful pearlescent finish with matching headstock. It's got a great '60s neck profile if you're into guitars. Anyway, I might be wrong, but don't think I've ever seen you don a KISS shirt! We both come from that era when it was an amazing experience to be a KISS fan!!
Had to comment again once I made it to the end after seeing the large pile on the floor! 😂 I've been watching your videos for a long time, and I'm surprised to see you just chuck them around!
I'm blown away from all the different genres! No hate from me on The DaVinci Code! That book is dope! It's a funny story that when that came out, and I bought it for my friends mom as a gift, not knowing what it was about. She loved to read, and I'd heard all the buzz about it, and she was legit mad. I read just fantasy books at the time, but she refused to take it so I read it and fell in love with it!
Very interesting. Some of my all time Favorites (that you did not mention) : In Cold Blood-Truman Capote, The Lords of Discipline-Pat Conroy, The Night House-Jo Nesbo, Red Rabbit-Alex Grecian, Furness-Muriel Gray, The Tomorrow File-Lawrence Sanders, The Old Man’s War-John Scalzi, Primal Fear-William Diehl, On Writing-Stephen King, Nick Cutter-The Troop, No Exit-Taylor Adams, Silence of the Lambs-Thomas Harris, Deliverance-James Dickey, American Psycho-Bret Easton Ellis, Mighnight Cowboy-James Leo Herlihy, All Quiet on the Western Front-Erich Remarque, Flowers for Algernon-Daniel Keyes
Great review of the top 100! I do enjoy the view of the pile of books at the end. I know you protect your books with covers and such, but it still gives me a cringe with just the right tinge of humor.
Currently reading through Malazan for the first time myself and am at Bonehunters book 6. I also feel Deadhouse Gates is my favourite in the series thus far. Not many others seem to rate it so highly in the series. Blew me away!
Once I finish IT I will have read 20 of your picks. Question !!!!! I loved Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. Finally finished the mammoth "to green angel tower". Should I continue Tad's publication order and read and start the Otherland series OR should I keep going with the Osten Ard series??? Thanks for the video.
I recommend continuing with the Osten Ard series, it would resonate a lot more after MS&T. Shadowmarch is very good too. A great writer. Happy reading!
Based on this list I think you might like “Blindness” by José Saramago if you don’t mind the writing style. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on it.
This is the one of the best book recommendation i ever got. Rest of TH-cam channel just reccomend me romantic and women centric novels. I don't know in my country if i really can find all of this books, but i am really interest to read all of book physically or online.
