He is a good professor who can deliver materials clearly as he did in his MIT lecture videos. However, he is also an informed investor for being a finance professor and owns an investment management firm called AlphaSimplex Group in which he is now the chairman and probably receives lots of money from it. I think he has connections with other large hedge funds and institutional investors through his own firm and therefore possesses information about them.
