I don't know why NFL commentators won't talk about Aubriey's performance in the USFL. They didn't bring up his stats, history, or records there at all. It's been 15 weeks and 14 games and they just won't give this man his respect. And it's not just him, but several USFL and XFL guys ass well. Brandon Aubrey played soccer for Notre Dame in college and was a first round pick in the MLS draft...until he and his wife were watching NFL kickers miss field goals and she apparently said (according to him), "You could do that." He then became the placekicker for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL and now he has a pair of rings with them which ultimately caught Mike McCarthy's eye. The rest, of course, is history.
You have a sniper for a kicker, you'll be walking away with points more often than not. I said this in another video: one of the reasons why the Bengals had their deep run was because of McPhearson sniping kicks left and right. Even if you get bogged down, if you have a sniper kicker, you make half of the field into the red zone. That's huge.
The NFL should look to more soccer players for placekickers. Or any football league, for that matter. Hell, some schools in FBS have Australians for punters (due to having experience playing Australian football).

@@Supperdude9 Soccer players already have a lot of experience with kicking techniques. In soccer you don't only shoot at the goal. You also play cross passes over 50 meters through the air. I could hit the ball over half a soccer pitch (55 yards) into the hands of my goalkeeper during warmup when I was like 16-17 years old, to give an example. I'm sure if you take a decent soccer player with a strong leg and start teaching him kicking techniques for footballs he'll become a good kicker, since he already has the basic kicking techniques from soccer.
I was hoping you'd do a video on this. Preseason Dallas had no clue who they wanted as their kicker I'm not sure who saw him from a scouting perspective but give that person a raise. Butter Aubrey has quickly become my favorite kicker here's to hoping he has the same legacy as JT.

The Cowboys grabbed Kavontae Turpin from the Generals (primarily for his blazing speed) and his first year with Dallas, he goes to the Pro Bowl as the return specialist. Now they have ace kicker and ex-soccer player Brandon Aubrey from the Birmingham Stallions.
Maybe someday he'll break Justin Tucker's distance record. Who knows? That 60 yarder could've potentially made it from 65. Leg power is definitely there. We'll just have to wait & see.

NFL kickers today are so good these days, it's just ridiculous. For comparison's sake, Jan Stenerud (67% FG accuracy, long 55) and Adam Vinatieri (84%, long 57) are the two kickers on the NFL 100 team. Make no mistake, Stenerud and Vinatieri deserve their accolades, but the top guys today simply put their numbers to shame.
I got the eagles and cowboys kicker in fantasy. Neither were drafted, and no one had them 4 weeks into the season. Aubrey has saved me many times. These 2 are the highest scoring kickers in the league this year
I used to make kicks for the local team where I'm at. New York City. Once we had the ball on the 5 and they sent me in. I have no idea what they were thinking. But I drilled down ball down the middle of those upright on the other side making myself somewhat of a local legend. Congrats to Aubrey.

Power becomes a major factor at that range in game because you have to get it over the d-line, which sacrifices distance. So it’s very different from kicking a 60 yarder in warmups.

It looks like this guy could maybe hit a 70 yarder if he caught it just right. What’s amazing actually: he doesn’t just make long kicks, but they’re almost down the middle too. I used to be able to make 40-to-45 yard field goals when I was young, if I really cranked it. But I think the tendency is, if a kicker tries one out of his comfort zone, he’s apt to pull it as he tries too hard. This guy kicks pretty true.

Actually McPherson misses alot of kicks. He's cost me quite a few matchups last year. Had to drop his ass. I wouldn't even put him on aubreys level.

A lot of kickers aren't really given the opportunity to do any of that under game conditions. How often does a team have their kicker do 60 yard field goals at times in which it may be risky? And even when it's maybe a last second fg, how often does the team opt to take it that far out, rather than getting a bit closer first?
I'm not saying Maher didn't have a strong leg, but I don't think it's as out of the ordinary as you make it out to be.

It looks like this guy could maybe hit a 70 yarder if he caught it just right. What’s amazing actually: he doesn’t just make long kicks, but they’re almost down the middle too. I used to be able to make 40-to-45 yard field goals when I was young, if I really cranked it. But I think the tendency is, if a kicker tries one out of his comfort zone, he’s apt to pull it as he tries too hard. This guy kicks pretty true.

He had those field goal opportunities like any other team decides on when to kick field goals. You really think the Cowboys had that luxury of thought in a game with deep playoff implications?

He was clowning on the Cowboys' inept offense failing to convert or gain yardage, not literally saying that the Cowboys were just sending him in to kick 55+ yard FGs because that was the gameplan.
