- Little do we know about Havildar Shere Thapa of Indian Army who single-handedly delayed waves of assault of Chinese Army during the 1962 war in Upper Subansiri sector,” Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu had tweeted earlier this year as he unveiled a bust of the unsung hero, who is still awaiting a recognition from the Centre.
Thapa of the 2nd battalion of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles had killed 79 Chinese soldiers alone and injured many more in the battle fought in the Subansiri sector of Arunachal in November 1962 before laying down his life, according to records.
Sixty years on, the martyr, lost in the annals of history, is yet to get his due commendation, rued Thapa’s commanding officer 2nd Lieutenant Amar Patil, who retired as a colonel.

We use to hear stories of Shere Tapa since childhood.. He was a really brave and effecient soldier. He singlehandedly defended his post and killed a huge no. of enemy soldiers. Gramd salute to this Brave Son of Mother India.. And a big thanks to our friend Himanshu for showing and telling Sir Shere Tapa's story which is not heard by many.👍👍

That machete which aunty was showing is the original machete of Tagin tribes which is famous around Arunachal Pradesh it's very expensive and not everyone can have it unless it's inherited or you can buy it (tagins are famous for long Machete ) and the blue beads are also very costly if it's original and it is used by some other Tani ethnic also like Nyishi and galo and what aunty was told is also correct if our daughter beings her groom we give that special expensive beads(only one piece) to our son in law by making it a necklace with red yarn and about the sacrifice of Mithuns in Tagin tribe when we celebrate marriage ceremony the grooms Gifts Mithun to the parents of girl in old times it was 30/40 Mithun and not only Mithun but with other animals like pig, cow,goat etc is also included as per the status of groom that's why in arunachal peoples says it's hard to get tagin girl because of Mithun haha 😂 but nowadays it's not require this much Mithun like old days and not even parents accept it (a girl from tagin ethnic here ) ❤️🇮🇳

That's true Chinese recognised the bravery of Shere Thapa. So PLA buried his dead body on the spot and kept a wooden epitaph near his body with an inscription in Chinese script appreciating the fighting qualities of Havildar Shere Thapa. A memorial in the memory of Havildar Shere Thapa for his indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice was made by the locals of that area, which stands near Kete Nallah near Limeking even today.
Rifleman Jaswant Rawat is a myth he might have died in that area but PLA didn't pay homage to him like they did to the body of Havildar Shere Thapa. This makes Shere Thapa bit underrated .
