    How can we assume the motive for a command economy is to maximise welfare, but when it comes to having a variety of choice consumers have a low variety? Does this low variety not mean people have lower living standards from not having access to more material possessions thus lower social welfare?

    I don't get the last bit with monoplies doesn't Command economies monopolise the whole market as all goods and services are provided by the government?

    • @Dehydratedpencil
      @Dehydratedpencil 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the State IS the monopoly in a market economy. A big criticism of market economies is that a monopoly might be formed, but it is a necessity in a command economy.

  • @racheldickinson3559
    @racheldickinson3559 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you argue that in a command economy the government becomes a quasi monopoly except being profit maximisers they are welfare maximisers but use the same techniques as a monopoly.

      its not completely free market bc thats almost impossible.However it's very free market through low tax, no welfare, no free health care etc

    • @ecnalms851
      @ecnalms851 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say mixed too. Their branding is all about capitalism which is true but the gov heavily subsidises a lot of industries too and has Medicaid and Medicare, and also has progressive federal income tax system. Also, before 2017, the federal corporate tax was 35% which is pretty bloody high - it was higher than countries like China, Germany, and France.
