    Welcome back everybody and happy new year. Today we're going back to an absolute classic, Medal of Honor. I honestly don't think I've played this game since I was at least a teenager. The game is is certainly showing its age but it was a lot of fun to reminisce on how unique and special this game was when it first came out. Honestly it's not surprising this game sparked the WW2 trend in first person shooters. Anybody have any fond memories of Medal of Honor or the series in general? Be sure to tell me about them! Also if theres any other WW2 FPS titles you'd like me to check out let me know.
    Timecodes

    It's honestly amazing what this game pulled off on a PS1, even with the low draw distance.

    Thanks for digging up this classic! I have such fond memories of playing the first couple Medal of Honors and Call of Dutys, a time when FPSs were starting to mature with Half Life and Goldeneye. I was so immersed in the WW2 setting. Great stuff!

    It is never not fun to shoot nazis with panzerfausts in MoH. Had so much fun with this game and MoH Underground back in the day. Frontline blew my mind at the time when it came out

    This, Underground, Dark Forces, Alien Trilogy and DooM 2 were my childhood!!! People complaining about modern day console shooters never played a ps1 shooter 😂

  • @SweatyCowch
    @SweatyCowch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is such a pleasant surprise to find in my sub feed. All these years later I still can't decide between this or Underground for my favorite game of all time. Underground is more polished with more variation like the camera for going undercover, fighting tanks, and that motorcycle side car sequence. But I got so attached to Jimmy Patterson with this game and front line even though he's mute and represented with only a picture and dossier. I hope to one day do a review of this game as well but I'd like to get a bunch more practice under my belt. I sincerely hope you choose to review more in this series. Cheers!

    While I had an N64 with Goldeneye, a friend of mine had a PS1 and this game. That being said, this is still one of my favorite PS1 titles. On a same but different note, I dare say that Black, for the original Xbox and PS2, has a similar feel as this game. I think its the fact that the same composer did the score for both games is why it feels that way.

    I still have my copy of this game and I still play it to this day along with Medal of Honor Underground. I remember watching my dad play this when it came it out when I was only four years old and I didn’t play it myself for the first time until I was nine. Lots of fond memories with this gem of an FPS game

    Coincidentally, I played Allied Assault for the first time last month. (currently, it's the only Medal Of Honor under my belt). I definitely enjoyed my time but it's crazy how much its spiritual successor Call of Duty implemented in the gunplay department such as Proning, Leaning, and Ironsights. I view Allied Assault and COD1 now and I see a parallel to Wolf 3D and Doom. The first is a classic and is to be respected for its contribution but the latter completely blows it out the water.

  • @leglockcontrol
    @leglockcontrol 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It happens the same to me, there are some gems in old gen consoles, and the controls are a big step back (even when I am 34 and grew up with these stuff). We have Tenka and Disruptor for PSX wich are good, but the controls are awful for todays standards. Good thing is with emulation can solve some or most of these issues.
    Side note, check out Timesplitters 2 and 3, you will love them. And if you are in the mood for something different, try Deception franchise for PSX (Kagero in japan).

    • @Gruntvc
      @Gruntvc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We take for granted the modern controller set ups for FPS games.
      It was pretty rough during the PS1 and N64 especially.
      The standard Dreamcast controller isn't much better for FPS games either.
      Even emulation can't fix unfair gameplay, looking at you Alien Resurrection.

    • @leglockcontrol

      @@Gruntvc It is funny that you mentioned that game. I had love-hate relation with it. For me is a great game, but kinda hard for psx, EVEN when you can play it with mouse support.

    I recall one of those control schemes being a lot better. Twin-stick movement and looking, firing was bound to R2, reload to R1, crouch to L1, aim to L2, everything else was bound to the face buttons.

    It was a good game for the time, but Medal of Honor Allied Assault was probably the best one.
    I remember this having an unlockable velociraptor skin from The Lost World Jurassic Park. Pretty funny.
    Too bad what happened to this franchise, another victim of EA.

    • @KIRKCOLLECTS
      @KIRKCOLLECTS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allied Assault is still my favorite, Frontline a close second. The D Day levels were mind blowing for the time.
      Yeah its a shame. I was hoping Above and Beyond would bring it back, especially since Respawn was developing, but some of the early reaction seems underwhelming. I still want to play it for myself though.

    • @Gruntvc
      @Gruntvc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @KIRK COLLECTS, Frontline was good too.
      Man, early 2000s was a great time for WW2 games: Medal of Honor, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Call of Duty, etc.
      I don't have VR. So I can't say I bought the new one. But from the gameplay vids I saw? It didn't look great.
      Are you gonna review other PS1 FPS games? I know Medal of Honor had a sequel. Plus there is Alien Trilogy and Alien Resurrection.
      Honestly, the PS1 and N64 FPS days were rough. Once ya got to PS2, Xbox, GC times though? Legendary lol.

    • @afd19850
      @afd19850 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think a lot of the devs that left EA to form infinity ward played a part in MOH’s quality dropping too. Allied Assault and Frontline were they best entries, although I do enjoy the 2010 reboot for some reason. I just find it ironic how some of I.W ran back to EA after being burned by Activision and former Respawn.

    • @Gruntvc
      @Gruntvc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Ginge, You're correct. Infinity Ward was formed by devs who made Medal of Honor Allied Assault.
      It is indeed ironic they went back to EA. At least we got Titanfall 2 before EA bought their souls. Not good.
      As for Medal of Honor 2010, I did like that one. It was unique in that it based its campaign on recent real events. I dunno what happened with the sequel Warfighter though.

    • @afd19850
      @afd19850 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh wow. This game was terrible, even at the time, especially compared to other console FPS's that were available like Goldeneye or Turok. MoH was just poor design choice after poor design choice topped off by that atrocious draw distance.
