im playing through it for the first time after finishing frontline and rising sun and wow even this first game still holds up so well. that being said, as tired as im getting of all the endless remakes of games, i think remaking MOH 1 and Underground with frostbite would be a no brainer. keep the gameplay basically the exact same as the originals except with larger maps/higher draw distance and some basic quality of life enhacements.
You can use a plug-in to play it with mouse using epsxe emulator. Its not perfect but very fun. Its sucessor, though (MOH Underground) you can play it with a mouse injetor called DolphinDuck and using the Duckstation emulator. It's almost perfect mouse raw input. It plays like a modern shooter but with the old MOH satisfying gunplay. I'm having só much fun!
Oh wow, so glad I found this! Im recently disabled, so I've been enjoying the PS1 library (playing on a playstation mini with True Blue usb). I dont have income anymore to support my game collection, so I have to manage with what I got or can afford on a very small budget. I recently came across MOH and absolutely love it! It has helped me get through some of these tough days of being disabled. And I very much enjoyed this video! Thank you for the great content!
I just bought a PS1 and "Medal of Honor" and "Medal of Honor Underground" was included with it. So excited to play it. Also came with "Crash Bandicoot 2", "Cool Boarders 4" and "Billiards".
It is sad, really, that this franchise died. I still remember how thrilling it was back then, and for the most part still is. I mean, today's games just focus on visuals, as this focused on gameplay and physycs. Speaking of that, I think that together with Mafia 1's driving physycs, this game is still is best for it's animations and mechanics.
I love the old Medal of Honor games. I really liked the idea of combining world war and secret agent stories. However, after Medal of Honor Frontline, the best part of the series, the series lost its roots, which was a real shame. Still, Medal of Honor, Underground and Frontline will forever be among my all time favourites.
Although I still liked and appreciated moh rising sun keeping things fresh by going after the Japs in lush green hillsides , jungles and temples Most agree many aspects took a slight back step and the charm was missing , something about the moody orchestra at night in the European setting with the well dressed Nazi's to contend with can never be beaten
MOH had "modern" movement control scheme. There were 4 (I believe) control schemes and 1 of them was move with left stick, move camera with right and use triggers for shooting. Just the default one was weird (it was weird because it was made for controllers without thumb sticks as they weren't popular at the time / were too new). The only drawback was there was no permanent crosshair.
The default control scheme was a rather typical control scheme for early FPSes before DualShock became a norm. Doom, King's Field had a very similar one and Duke 3D had it as an option (Cheekily named Doomed)
Age of Empires II and MoH made me interested in history. I always said that these two games sparked my interest in history, over 20 years later I'm a history teacher. And by still gaming myself and with games like BF1 BFV and some of the CODs I do connect well with the children to spark their intrest. Love your review, and as someone who played the game when it came out I have to agree that it is a masterpiece. And when the mates come over we have a cigar and some beer and we like to play MoH (and other games) local multiplayer and just shoot at each other it is super fun to do.
First Medal of Honor is still my favorite PS1 game. Probably top three games of all time for me as well though Ace Combat 4 on PS2 is my #1 favorite. I guess Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Medal of Honor would be harder to place for second and third but they are my top three. As for Medal of Honor Underground I say it is a big improvement over the first game overall in terms of missions but it lacks a certain charm I feel the first game has. Maybe it's my nostalgia of the first one being stronger and playing it with my cousin and uncle. I have played both pretty much since they released but something about the first game I like a bit better. As for the PS2 games I have played most and equally as good. People complain about Rising Sun but I personally loved it back in 2004. For me Rising Sun's cliffhanger ending with saving the brother that was as far as I know never resolved though I think mentioned in a PSP Medal of Honor is Rising Sun's only downfall. I have been thinking about replaying Rising Sun soon myself though probably have to buy it for my OG Xbox because my PS2 copy is scratched and I need another game for my OG Xbox anyway.
Damn, people just don’t know how new and fresh FPS games were on console at this time. I mean, besides Goldeneye, I’m struggling to remember any console FPS games that were any good before Medal of Honor.
What is best in this game? Throwing a grenade, waiting for an enemy to pick it up, then shooting him in the foot until he forgets to throw it back and it explodes in his hand.
@@joethealternativegamer3935 agreed, it’s ironic that when gaming hardware was less advanced, there somehow was lots of innovation and amazing experiences
The small screen makes it really beautiful. And i appreciate the widescreen mode. You just have to select type 2 control scheme on PSP menu and option 2 inside game too. Doing this the gameplay is super enjoyable...
@@joethealternativegamer3935 the decisive aspect for me right at the start was the fascinating and immersive historical and tense MOOD, just as Silent Hill did with a horror mood. Spielperg should be behind this, but i did not know. THere was also some epic funny things and bugs you can adress on a video. I am composer today an thats why I am checking some reference games of my youth. I wish the new developers have some clue to use this awesome technology for great and serious games as before again
I personally didn't enjoy this game. I just felt the ps1 graphics/hardware could not quite pull of an actual ww2 shooter experience. I think Quake 2 is the only good fps on the ps1.
This video is wrong. 1. You can enable dual stick control in the game settings. 2. You can shoot while moving, you don't have to stop. You also can permanently enable crosshair in Medal of Honor Underground. 3. BAR has the best weapon sound, but you only show the gameplay with MP40, which has the worst sound. 4. You talk about undercover gameplay and showing papers, but you don't show it. 5. It's shame that you show gameplay with sound ONLY from the first mission. 6. It's nonsense that you say hard missions are bad/negative things.

One of my all time favorite. The gameplay, ost, the intense atmosphere were amazing.

That same control scheme had the L2 as the crosshair button. It's amazing playing that control scheme on a modern controller.

The original Medal of honour footage with the gore looks amazing
Yea it does!!
@@joethealternativegamer3935 also I’m not sure if you know but if you go in the options and controller presets you can change it to modern controls :)

You're right about the charm, also first medievil had a charm to it
Would love to know of other ps1 games that hit that moody sweetspot
In principle, this is one of my all-time favorite games, and in many ways, set the standard for what I look for in games, today.
Damn, people just don’t know how new and fresh FPS games were on console at this time. I mean, besides Goldeneye, I’m struggling to remember any console FPS games that were any good before Medal of Honor.
There are some lessor known ones but goldeneye and Medal of Honor really made it big!
After goldeneye and perfect dark on 64, this game helped continue my fix for fps games when playing ps1 at my dad's

Still a great game.It holds up well.Like an old war movie fans dream game.

I think that required developers to get really creative to make it work and fun!
There are no games with that kind of O.S.T. and epic story anymore.
In some ways, they do not make them like they used to!
Excellent review!
Thank you!
Awesome review, i recently bought a Greatest Hits copy to my collection and i'm playing on PSP to immersive headphones shooting...

I used to play this game on the PC, which I thought was a better than the consel version. The hedgerow section was my favorite.
Allied assault?
I guess. All I know is that I played the hell out of that game. The hedgerow section, was my favorite part of the game.
:)
This was never released on the PC...only the Playstation 1.
Great video.
Thank you :)
Great review, also it was my go to 1st person.
The concept art alone is something that belongs hung up on a wall in a picture frame.
Great video :) earned a sub!
Thank you :)
No wonder moh was amazing , it had a top tier director calling the shots
I miss moh i hope they reboot it again
Honestly, my only regret was not playing this game sooner.

But probably that congressional president of the Medal of Honor Society got “lobbied” …

I know right? I was pleasantly surprised when I realized MOH1 had modern twin-stick FPS controls. In that regard it aged better than GE.
Great points
Good game, but you play as one of the bad guys.
