Honestly I think season 8 was the shot of the arm death battle needed. The matchups were refreshing, most of the battles I think are either good to some of my favorites of the season and the analysis were almost all good. Season 7 lowkey made me feel exhausted of the show but I think this anniversary season really turned me around. Like death battle is far from perfect but I can’t say that they don’t try new things.
Here's my ranking of the season 16: lex vs doom 6/10 No real bad episodes, this was just the weakest. The banter was fine, but it killed the pacing 15: Akuma vs Shao Kahn 6.5/10 It has a really good shot for every janky exchange, I thought Kahns voice acting got better near the end, but in retrospect, it should have been sprites 14 Blake vs Mikasa 6.5/10 The frame rate is kinda bad, but the writing sinks this one, probably the 2 worst analysis of the season Those were easy, these get a lot harder 13: macho man vs Kool aid man 6.5/10 The most wasted potential of a death battle. they didn't use a whole lot of stuff in the fight, and as a wwe fan, I'm so disappointed we didn't get any name drops or wwe feat 12 shadow vs ryuko 7/10 Good choreography and action Bad analysis and characterization 11: batman vs iron man 7/10 Everything is top notch, but Batman is inexplicably dumb and the final batsuit not being used is pretty dumb 10: Korra vs storm 7.5/10 Fun... Analysis kinda felt flat but the fight was fun throught 9: geese vs hehachi 8/10 A lot of love was poured in the fight Could have done without the Elon musk joke though 8: Star vs Steven 8.5/10 This fight has a lot of charm, fun moments, and characterization but wish they held off on the universal star, then justified it in the post analysis 7:link vs cloud 8.5/10 A much needed revitalization of a classic, that improves the original to astounding levels. Only problems being the start, and some of the analysis 6: Madara vs aizen 9/10 Just a rocky start to the fight That's literally what holds it back 5: po vs iron fist 9/10 The ending was kinda weird, but I am impressed with the episode overall 4 Yoda vs Mickey 10/10 The start was kinda slow, and didn't like the jokes It's a 10 despite that 3 dio vs alucard 10/10 One of the best written episodes ever, and the animation oozes passion 2 Goku black vs reverse flash 10/10 My favorite Sprite episode ever, and I actually liked Goku blacks analysis 1 Saitama vs popeye spinach/10 My favorite episode of all time, not since Goku vs Superman did it feel like all hands were on deck for a perfect conclusion to my favorite db season Thanks to everyone who read all of that

The most impressive thing about this season for me, was that my 2nd favorite episode of all tme being Alucard vs Dio, which I had never heard of hellsing, and knew dio existed but knew nothing about him, and this is only behind my number one fight I've wanted for years being homelander vs omni man which are both characters I love
Here's my ranking 16. Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man is a really experimental episode that sadly didn't work for me at all. With these types of episodes you're either gonna love it or hate it and even though I don't outright hate, I definitely fall more in line with the negative opinions. The Boomstick's Dad stuff was lame as hell and I'd honestly have preferred for it to not be in the episode at all if we meant we could've gotten a full length Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man fight. As a result of that entire subplot that didn't even do anything for me, the analysis felt really barebones and the fight wasn't any better. It's visually really great and the stop-motion is phenomenal and gives me a lot of hope for a LEGO episode to happen, but aside from that it just felt really underwhelming and the analysis segment in the middle of the animation was awful. Overall this episode suffered from trying way too hard to be weird and I didn't really care for it overall. 4/10. 15. Akuma vs Shao Kahn is a really mixed episode. The analysis was great and some genuinely funny jokes instead of the typical boring slapstick of a lot of other episodes. The fight meanwhile was just bad overall. The first half was alright with some decent combos and not-so janky animation for the most part, but as soon Akuma goes Oni and we get that stupid shot of him weakly hitting Kahn the fight is just terrible all-throughout. The animation is so janky that it gives Batgirl vs Spider-Gwen a run for its money and the death absolutely sucks. Overall this episode is completely carried by the analysis and some decents combos towards the start. 5/10. 14. Blake vs Mikasa feels a lot like a modern Cartoon Fight Club episode in the sense that the animation was really good, but the analysis is just nothing for me. I couldn't care less about this matchup or either character, and the analysis definitely reinforced that for me. It was just boring and the jokes are among the worst in the whole show. The fight meanwhile was actually pretty great in my opinion. The framerate didn't really distract that much and I thought the choreography and animation was way more dynamic and fluid than Akuma vs Shao Kahn. The track was also really good and enhanced the fight a lot for me as well. The bad writing definitely carried over from the analysis because it really seemed like Liam was having an off-week when he wrote this script and the ending as a whole was really bad. The death is hilarious and Blake being super fucking happy about losing her arm is one of the dumbest moments in the series. So yeah, it's a great fight ruined by the terrible writing, particularly in the analysis. If this was me 2 years ago then I probably would've given it an 8, but the analysis of a Death Battle is a super important part of an episode despite what I used to think and because of it, this episode is just okay overall. 6/10. 13. Kora vs Storm is good, but its probably the episode I have the least to say about because of its average quality overall. It's still good, but it doesn't really stand out that much compared to the rest of the season. The analysis was enjoyable, Storm's more than Kora's for me, and the fight was decent. It didn't do anything super crazy but it still had solid action, fluid animation, and great effects. The death was kinda goofy, but Nemesis' cameo is absolutely top tier. So yeah, its easily the best Avatar episode since its the only good one at all, but it's probably the most OKAY episode of the season overall for me. 7/10. 12. Lex Luthor vs Doctor Doom is honestly really underrated. I have no idea why I thought it was a masterpiece back in the day, but I still have a soft-spot for this episode. The analysis wasn't funny at all, but it still did a great job at covering the characters and it had some superb editing. The fight however starts really rough. The opening gun-fight is boring, the blade to stick fight is decent but kinda slow, and the 2D molecular prison scene drags on for way too long and is easily my least favorite part of the fight. However, when Doom breaks out and does the foot-dive spam the fight goes uphill a lot in my opinion. The foot-dive combo itself is aggressively badass and has an amazing feeling of speed and impact. Apparently this scene was originally supposed to be just one foot dive that Lex would've caught and then gone into the scene where he slams him into the ground, but I'm glad that the animators went the extra mile and made it a memorable scene. The rest of the fight is decent overall and doesn't feel nearly as slow. The Injustice 2 supermove was really cool and the death was fantastic. Overall I think I was definitely a victim of hype from what the crew was saying on the cast at first, but in 2022 I think that this episode holds up pretty decently. 7/10. 11. Shadow vs Ryuko is pretty good, but its also no where even close to as good as I remembered it being. I remember having this episode at like a 9.5 or a 10 at first, but looking back I'm not too sure why. I don't know, I guess I was just on copium the whole time because of how they were hyping this season up. As for the episode itself, the analysis is pretty good aside from Wiz being a pedobear, and the fight is really solid. The animation is visually amazing and the action is really fluid and well-animated. My biggest problem with this fight that holds it back from greatness though is the sound design. A lot of the hits feel like they have no impact due to the really poor sound design that most last S7 and early S8 episodes had for some reason, and it just kinda took away from the fight for me. I still really like the fight overall and sayonara bit at the end was really neat too. I don't know how much copium I was on when I said that the ending rivaled goddamn Ironman vs Lex Luthor and Snake vs Sam in my old comment, but I still thought it was a really nice moment to give Shadow some justice after Shadow vs Mewtwo. The actual death is mid as hell though. Overall this episode didn't hold up super well, but I still really enjoyed it. 7/10. 10. Steven Universe vs Star Butterfly is also a really good episode. The analysis was decent but I kinda zoned out for it, and the fight was really fun. The custom sprites are immaculate compared to the last cartoon fight that used custom sprites and the character moments and action were really fun. The hand-to-hand fight was really janky and doesn't go even close to as hard as the storyboards, but the rest of the fight was really solid. The Pink Steven transformation though was amazing along with the line delivery, and that segment of the fight overall was really great aside from the mid incineration death. Overall this episode held up really well and easily blew away the shitty CFC episode. 7/10. 9. Heihachi vs Geese is a pretty great episode. The analysis was really enjoyable aside from the stupid Elon Musk bit that honestly rivals Super Saiyan Karen with how unfunny it is, and the fight is really solid. It isn't anything super intense, but it's still a really great martial arts fight with a ton of personality. The action is really fun and fast paced and it honestly goes pretty hard towards the end with the amazing fight on top of the volcano. The predictable line was pretty funny and Heihachi turning it against Geese was a really cool moment. The death was also really great and had some amazing hand-drawn elements, followed by an awesome shot of Heihachi punching the screen. The track is also incredible and easily up there for me despite the steep competition this season. Overall this episode is simple and the fight is pretty short, but it's really effective and I think they really hit it out of the park with this one. 8/10
8. Batman vs Ironman is honestly a super underrated episode. Is it a 10/10 like I previously said it was, hell no! Is it perfect, absolute not! But do I still love it, hell yeah! This episode is an absolute blast for me. The analysis for both was fantastic and even though it set some high expectations for the fight that weren't lived up to in every way, it was still a great analysis that I enjoyed a lot. The animation is also really solid. Visually it looks stunning and the custom sprites for the suits are god-tier. The action is a lot more simple than I would've liked, but it's still fun as hell with some amazing moments like the Hellbat taking on the entire House Party Protocol, the bust this line, the stunning shot of the laser in space, and Batman hitting Ironman with the Watchtower which is so stupid and goofy but I love it. The ending is also really great where Bruce and Tony face-off with no suits and Tony kills Bruce with the nano armor. Overall this episode definitely had a ton of lost potential, but it's still a great time and a super fun episode overall. 7. Link vs Cloud 2 is fantastic. The analysis was definitely not a high point for me however. Cloud's was decent aside from some weird pacing, but Link's was really boring and honestly one of my least favorite analyses in the season for me. The fight meanwhile is where the episode truly shines. Even though the scene of Cloud falling wasn't funny and dragged on for way too long, the rest of the animation was top-tier and really set a standard for the Blender fights on this channel that's unfortunately been pretty mixed as more episodes have come out. The animation is super fluid and visually looks amazing, especially towards the end with that shot of Cloud in front of the moon. That shot looks like it came straight from an actual videogame cutscene. The sword-fighting is really great and definitely shows the Blender team's strength in melee weapon combat and the animation uses a ton of powers, giving it a massive one-up to Mario vs Sonic 2 in that regard. The fight between the four Links and Cloud is amazing and so is the Fierce Deity Transformation. The death is also great with some super solid sound design. Overall this episode is easily the best of the rematch/remake episodes and it was a great way to end the first half of season 8. 9/10. 6. Yoda vs King Mickey is a little overrated, but still an absolutely incredible premiere. The analysis is really good and it uses LEGO Star Wars footage which is based as hell, definitely makes up for the Marshall cutaway. The fight meanwhile is absolutely fantastic. The action is super-fluid and well choreographed and the character interactions are great and show off the personalities of both really well without any forced memes and overused stereotypes like what Rewind Rumble did with Mickey Mouse. The ending of the fight though is absolutely the highlight for me. The music goes absolutely hard and makes it one of the best climaxes to any episode we've ever gotten. The killing blow is a bit weak, but with how amazing the buildup was and how charming the aftermath was, I don't even care. Overall this episode was an amazing way to start the season and a great showcase that the Nathan vs Lara/Batman vs Black Panther days are over for now. 9/10. 5. Po vs Iron Fist is one of the best sprite episodes of all time. The analysis is great, especially Po's. It brought back so many childhood memories for me and it's easily one of my favorite analyses in the season. The fight is a ton of fun and I absolutely love it. Aside from the ending, the writing for Po is absolutely on-point and his voice acting is some of the best in the series. The character interactions between the two really made this fight stand out, especially in the finger hold scene which was quite possibly my favorite scene in the episode. The action itself is fluid, fast paced and has some really solid sound design unlike some of the previous sprite battles in the show at that point. The bamboo staff is super well-choreographed and not only leads into my favorite scene of the episode, but also the amazing climax in the spirit realm with some of the best hand-drawn art in the whole series. The kill itself was really bad and the aftermath seemed super out of character, but overall this episode was a really refreshing matchup that went absolutely hard. 9/10 4. Madara vs Aizen is honestly pretty underappreciated in my opinion. I fucking loved this episode and rewatching it, it's so much better than I remembered it being. The analysis was excellent and it got me interested in both characters with probably my favorite cutaway gag in the season along with Boomstick wanting to get lubed up of all things. The analysis was also one of the longer ones which I appreciated. The fight is also top-tier and even though there's some slight jank towards the start, it didn't bother me nearly as much as some people and I still really enjoyed the start of the fight overall. After the sneak peek it definitely gets even better and as it goes on the fight just goes absolutely hard. I loved Po vs Iron Fist for the character interactions, but this episode absolutely excels with its crazy, over-the-top action and I loved it. The fight used the characters' powers really well, the hand drawn elements are some of the best in the series and the custom sprites and continue showing off far the sprite team has come since season 8. Overall this episode surprised me and I think its by far one of the best sprites battles we've ever gotten. 10/10! 3. Dio vs Alucard is a borderline perfect episode. The analysis was fantastic and similar to Madara vs Aizen, it felt like it went a lot more in-depth compared to other analyses which I really appreciated. The fight meanwhile is an absolute masterpiece. The animation is stunning, the voice acting is incredible, the action is on-point, the writing is fantastic, everything is just perfect in this animation. Both characters get some of the best lines in the entire series and there's some really great moments like the two having a sword fight with the arms of the Big Ben. The ending also incredible with Dio's voice actor going absolutely hard and an amazing death to close off the absolutely top tier fight. Overall this episode is yet another showcase of how the sprite team has just been on their a-game and the total domination in quality of the 3D fights is now over. 10/10! 2. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash is the single greatest sprite episode in the series. Although the first three minutes of Goku Black's analysis are garbage, I don't even care because the rest of his analysis is good and Reverse Flash's analysis is absolutely fantastic. The fight meanwhile goes as hard as humanly possible in pretty much every way. The set-up is really great and shows off the assholerly of both characters flawlessly. Then Eobard lands his first hit on Black and it sends him flying through buildings in a super raw moment of power that doesn't even come close to what Goku Black does to him immediately after by sending him crashing through the Earth, out the other end and straight the moon, and then all the way back. The fight has a really great dynamic showing both characters' power and speed and has some of the best characterization in the series. Then the they both start traveling through time and the fight just goes absolutely hard. The fight between Eobard and all the clones is just so crazy and over-the-top along with the entire sequence of the two time traveling and killing each other over and over. Then we get the climax which somehow goes even harder. This death is hands down the greatest death in any sprite fight and the 2nd best in the entire series, only rivaled by Hulk vs Doomsday for the number one spot. Overall this episode just goes absolutely hard and it is one of the greatest things that Death Battle has ever made. As much as I love Po vs Iron Fist and Yoda vs King Mickey, the action in both of those episodes isn't anything too crazy and over-the-top, but this episode not only has the amazing character interactions of those two, but also arguably the most insane action of any episode to date. 10/10!
1. Saitama vs Popeye is my new favorite Death Battle episode of all time. It took 5 years, but Hulk vs Doomsday was finally topped. This episode is just absolutely flawless. The analysis is one of my favorites in the entire show and is one of the many examples of how Death Battle actually gets me to care about the analysis unlike Rewind Rumble which is basically just an animation show at this point. The actual animation itself is god-tier. The hand-drawn art style looks amazing, especially with those 3D backgrounds. The fighting itself is amazing and animated super well with some really solid sound design unlike the last finale. One of my favorite things about this episode is how the fighters constantly change the animation style as the fight goes on. Even though the sprite scene was really short, the transition from hand-drawn to sprites was a great moment and the transition back gives us the absolutely stunning scene of Saitama lifting a whole chunk of the Earth and ramming Popeye straight through it. Then we get to the 3D scene and even though a lot of people didn't like this bit because of the Popeye model, I thought the Popeye model was funny and it didn't distract me nearly as much as most people. The action itself is phenomenal, it's fast paced, intense, has infinitely better planet destruction than Hulk vs Broly and has a hilarious moment with Popeye's spinach punch. The track also goes absolutely hard, Balderdash is probably my favorite track in the whole series with how intense and emotional it is towards the end, adding to this episode's absolutely flawless climax. The scene of Saitama finally realizing that he's gotten a good fight is an absolute highlight of the entire series and quite possibly the most emotional moment in any episode of all time. The aftermath is also really great and funny as well. This episode is just the absolute greatest way to end any season of Death Battle, fuck Galactus vs Unicron, this is it right here! 11/10!!!
I said a similar comment on Nem's S8 retrospective but since I feel him and Biff's stuff go hand in hand in my opinion, I'm gonna go over my personal ranks again for this. From best to worst. Dio vs Alucard (10/10. What more needs to be said. One of the greatest sprite fights in DB history, if not the greatest. It's just perfect. With a really good analysis too and one of the most convincing verses arguments they've ever given. This ep was a good day to be a massive Jojo fan.) Goku Black vs Reverse Flash (10/10. Another one of the greatest sprite fights of DB history with another great analysis.... On RF's, not GB. But its literally miniscule imo, the whole rest of the episode more than makes up for it.) Saitama vs Popeye (10/10. What more need I say. Fantastic handdrawn, fantastic characterization, this is one of the best finales in the show. Up there with All Might Guy and Gokuman) Link vs Cloud '21 (10/10. I don't care about the Cloud analysis or the fact that Link lost or is possibly wrong. As a Zelda fan, it made me so so fucking happy with how right they got Link and the Zelda references in this fight. And for the knowledge I do have of Cloud, they nailed him as well. Accompanied with one of my favorite tracks in the series. Amazing fight.) Heihachi vs Geese (9/10. Ill try to mostly stop with the long thoughts from here on because the rankings speak for themselves. But really good episode, could have been a surprise 10/10 if it was just a tiny bit better in some areas. Plus Kings of Iron fucking slaps.) Po vs Iron Fist (8/10. Much as I love KFP and Po, I actually don't feel that strongly over this ep. But I can't deny it's really good.) Yoda vs Mickey (8/10. Another ep I don't feel too strongly about but can't deny its great area.) Steven vs Star (7/10. This ep just makes me feel fuzzy and nice. I mean, this is coming from an MLP fanboy and someone who really digs cutesy and fun yet dark-ish presentation in cartoons, like the track of this ep kinda mimics. Im just a cartoon enthusiast in general. And while I don't like Steven Universe and fell off of Star VS halfway through, I still enjoyed this battle a lot. Were it not for the bad Steven analysis or the Mewberty talk, could have been an 8.) Korra vs Storm (7/10. Could be prone to a possible 8 with how surprisingly good this episode is. And that's it, that's all I got.) Madara vs Aizen (7/10. One of the rare DBs where the result actually kinda dropped it for me, sadly. And I've never watched Bleach or Naruto, but with all I've heard of Aizen, I just can't see this battle not going in his favor. But that's really one of the only things I dislike over the ep, besides some few animation error things.) Batman vs Iron Man (6/10. I don't hate thus ep. 6 is 'above average' to me. But Batman coming back yet again, and the fight being kinda underwhelming and the other small errors in it drops it a bit. But its still fine.) Shadow vs Ryuko (6/10. Could be prone to a 5 if you convinced me. Which kinda sucks but I like the episode well enough, I suppose.) Macho Man vs Randy Savage (5/10. No feelings at all about this one, it's a very nice honorable love letter to Randy and I like the Wiz and Boomstick banter in the fight, but the dad B plot really brought it down.) Blake vs Mikasa (4/10. 4 is just 'below average' to me. Which means I can still find a single handful of things I like in it. I really like how Mikasa feels like the protagonist, the stratagy, a few really good looking shots. But the boring analyses, the frame rate and other such bring it down. But I'm happy for people who do love it.) Lex vs Doom (4/10. A nice nap. But seriously, this one is so boring to me but it's still got a few things I like, I guess. Whatever, Im starting to get burnt out, short reviewing them all was a mistake.) Akuma vs Shao Kahn (2/10. It's got very few things I like. I don't mean to shit on the SFM team, I really don't. But they need to stop taking hand to hand fights. That's it.) Phew, thats it. And as for my thoughts on the season as a whole, I loved it. I'll need to rewatch S2 to compare but this season could be in the running to be my favorite season and one where I think DB has finally found their footing again. The only episode that I think is bad is Akuva vs Shao. Thats it. Everything else is below average and beyond. And it recaptured and also made me realize how much I love verses stuff. I said this in my comment on Nem's vid, but this season made me feel like I was rediscovering it all over again like I did in middle school. And not for the verses debating mind you, but for the animation potential, the potential care and passion characters I love could get, the writing, all of it. And I think half of that rediscovery of love for verses is half thanks to you and Nem, Biff. Being an aspiring writer, and someone who really appreciates and grew up on animation and cartoons, Ive learned so much watching you and Nem and this season in general. On writing and character analysis. And I still have a lot to learn, only being 20. But I just wanted to say, if you, Biff, or anyone has read this far, thank you. Thank you and Death Battle for helping me rediscover my love for verses and helping me further my hopes of becoming a better writer. You guys are now two of my favorite small time YTers and I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's to Season 8, and hopefully just as many highs in Season 9. ...And for Bill Cypher vs Discord please DB can we finally have a proper good MLP episode without the needless and disrespectful underplaying or even shitting of it and its characters please ok thank you bye. Without a doubt, this is my new favorite season of the show. It was a very pleasant surprised following what is without a doubt my least favorite season, and my top 10 is now absolutely dominated with episodes from season 8. I'm really hoping they can carry this momentum into season 9 and give us some more great stuff. Doesn't necessarily have to reach the insane highs of things like Saitama vs. Popeye, Link vs. Cloud, Dio vs. Alucard, or Goku Black vs. Reverse Flash, but this season singlehandedly reignited my faith in the show's quality, and I'm very optimistic about what's to come.
Well, for now, season 9 has yet to make a bad episode; their worst was Boba Fett vs Predator which was still pretty decent. And then they made episodes like Omni-man vs Homelander, Tanjiro or Spongebob vs Aquaman which were amazing.

Hearing you talk about how some episodes gave you some of the greatest reactions with your friends reminded me how much this series meant to me and my friends too. And you were one of the reasons why I started doing reactions to the 2nd half of season 8. After the bad line my favorite villains have been on I'm so glad that Dio could finally be the one to break the streak of episodes I have a ton of issues with the other episodes, I wish so badly that Ganondorf could have an episode nearly as good since he's my favorite antagonist of all time but sadly not, but Dio oh so makes up for it, I honestly have a hard time choosing between Dio vs Alucard and Saitama vs Popeye, on one hand it's Saitama vs Popeye but on another hand Dio vs Alucard gave me what none of my favorite antagonists on Death Battle gave me so far, it's such a hard choice for me but I love those 2 episodes.
Just gotta throw in about the Yoda and force illusion clones scene, the way Mickey lowers his blade as if in absolute defeat in the face of what he's facing against, someone who just caught his attack and seemingly summoned a dozen clones as lighting and power swirls around him is chilling.
22:25 As stellar as this episode was, it just felt very underwhelming. Partly for the reasons you stated but also as a 150th episode. This episode just didn’t feel like it hit the same climactic feel as the previous two anniversary episodes(Megazord vs Voltron and Mario Vs Sonic, both of which are two of my favorite episodes of all time). To me this episode just didn’t do that for me. That’s probably a me thing but idk.

They've done three separate community death battles on the cereal mascot royale, one of which was a multi-episode spanning tournament arc. They HAVE to do it as a Death Battle and make it everything Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man should have been.

Now, before I move on to express a few other things about Season 8, I have a slight correction to make (don't get me wrong, that video of yours is absolutely phenomenal and you should be proud of it). When you mentioned in the Batman vs Ironman segment how Batman fought in the Hellbat like a brute (which I admit, is an argument that has merit) (yes, there were other things in this video where I disagree with you, but I get where you're coming from with them), you literally just showed a clip of Batman unleashing a swarm of bats to counter Ironman's Household Protocol, which on your review of the episode you acknowledged that it was an actually good strategic move on Batman's side. Oops. Probably should have picked literally any other moment with the Hellbat to prove your point. Also, the reason why Alucard was missing those shots st the start of the fight probably was because, as we see in the exactly next shot, one of the knives Dio threw got Alucard in the eye, and that most likely messed with his aim. Now, back to Season 8 of Death Battle, and to my showcase of each episode's Season 8 shot (I'd like to see you make a video of that as well). I’m so glad that the anniversary season was this good. Really excited to see season 9 in 2 months or so! I wanted to rank this season too, so I did here! 16- Kahn vs Akuma (3/10): Both analysis’ where pretty good, but the fight was asssssss. Janky, eh choreography, shit death, Kahn overall sucked and lack of abilities. I don’t really want to talk about it because it kinda disgusts me. Akuma was cool though. 15- Lex vs Doom (4/10): it’s a boredom. Godlike editing, but the analysis themselves were aight. The fight was boring. Decent choreography and there’s some good moments like the foot dive scene, the reveal of Super Lex with the first 15 seconds after the reveal scene and the preview wasn’t bad. Though it was boring all throughout and the dialogue was not good with them mumbling about how great they are. Death was cool too ig and Apex of Doom is the worst track of the season. 14- Blake vs Mikasa (4/10): The analysis were ok (Mikasa’s cutaway gag was pain), but the fight was decent on my rewatch. I don’t have an issue about the frame rate usually but it’s not great here, but not enough to make me disgust. I loved Mikasa’s comeback with her thought process, the shot of Mikasa cutting Blake’s hand off before the death was amazing. But then the death and aftermath ruined the end of the animation. I liked the choreography quite well, but there was mostly repetitive stuff and some bits were empty. Thunder Shroud is fkn amazing though holy shit. 13- Shadow vs Ryuko (6/10): Analysis was meh, but the fight was fortunately decent enough. I liked Shadow’s character here and even though I didn’t knew a lot about Ryuko, she was off to me. I decently liked the choreography here and I liked the shot of the Scissor blades above the earth and the sayonara line was a good call back to the previous Shadow fights. But the fight has some bad sound design, expressions and a bad death. 12- Batman vs Iron Man (6/10): I liked the analysis, the fight was fine. There was standout moments like the neck crack, the "Bust this" line, the bat shaped holes and the shot of the Soul Hammer. Choreography was cool and same for the VAs. Batman is out of character though and the fight had miss of potential. 11- Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man (7/10): It was decent. The analysis portion was weird to me and the Boomstick dad story sucked, but the fight was great. I liked the animation (especially the stop motion part), the choreography was cool and I liked the death and they handled it well too. Though it’s too short and it’s the episode with the most miss potential of the season. It was just too weird for me, but I appreciate the attempt here. Def underrated and should be rewatched. 10- Korra vs Storm (7/10): Korra’s analysis had a weird pacing, but it’s mildly enjoyable. Storm’s was better obv and good. The fight was pretty good. I liked Korra overall, the fight had a good escalation and the death was pretty good. The fog scene was good, the hand drawn stuff was great and the effects were great! Storm used little of her powers and some moments were janky but I can’t dare to remember. 9- Steven vs Star (7/10): The analysis were decent, though Steven’s was weird and not as good as Star’s. The fight was charming. I liked the setup and the VAs sold their performances. The only problems were the death (Steven grows fkn boo**), the hand to hand fight on the rainbow was weird and the end felt like it was rushed. Though the choreography was great, the transformation scenes were awsome and the horde fight was cool. Also, I really like the setup. I don’t watch both shows and it just felt in character for both of them. 8- Link vs Cloud (8/10): As a Zelda fan, I have some beef because I hate when they say: "Oh, but Link is the same guy through all of his incarnations." Shut up, he’s not the same. Every Link is different and the weapons around the franchise can’t be obtained by one Link. Ik that it’s for giving the character every abilities that they can have access to, but it’s just not it with Link. If they wanted the strongest Link, they should have put a Link to the past or BOTW Link. Outside of that, I liked the episode (even if it was a Link L). Decent analysis for Link (talk about his story pls), Cloud’s was weird and it comes from my friend who’s a FF7 fan. The fight was really good though. They could have used a bit more of Link’s arsenal, but it was good. Good choreography, good usages of their stuff, good transformation, Mipha spoke (I love Mipha so that was a neat touch that they used the line of Mipha reviving Link) and the death was really good. The pot scene was funny and the bike scene was cool. Some moments were janky like Cloud falling from the mountain and Fierce Daity was blowned out wayyyyyy too quick. Link literally becomes god by wearing this mask, but Cloud just whoops his ass. It’s not like he didn’t do that against Sephiroth’s strongest form or anything. But this episode is still great. Final Breath is fantastic. 7- Heihachi vs Geese (8/10): After I watched the Story of Tekken after Kazuya was revealed for Smash, I loved Heihachi’s analysis better on rewatch. Geese was good too. The fight does it all though. It’s really good. There’s some jank, sure. Like it’s slow in some points, but it’s really good regardless. The interactions are funny, the hits are impactful and the death was gruesome. The track is great too. I like the back & fourth at the end and Geese’s combo was amazing. 6- Madara vs Aizen (9/10): The preview’s ass. But the rest is so good holy shit. Madara’s analysis is the best of the season imo. Nothing major is wrong here and the cutaway gag was the best too. Aizen’s analysis was still good, though the cutaway was not great. The fight, after the preview, is amazing. The setup is probably the worst of the season and the start was jank af. After that, it’s all great. Well, there’s some things, like after transforming into his 3rd form, Aizen is missing his wings and the actual death wasn’t the greatest. But the VA, the escalation, the transformations, the fkn meteor and more are all good. Also, Hollow Dreams is fkn godlike, there’s only one track above it for me, but it’s amazing. 5- Po vs Iron Fist (9/10): I liked both analysis, they were great. The fight was so good. They got both characters personalities well, the fighting portions were cool, the One Inch Punch was impactful af, the dragon fight was stellar and the death was really good, if only it really was a good death. Still amazing fight. 4- Dio vs Alucard (10/10): perfect Halloween episode. I enjoyed both analysis equally, but the fight man, it’s great. There’s some stuff that is wrong, but the VA, choreography and everything really is so cool, creative and brutal. The death was so good and the Jojo memes were inserted in creative and good ways. Alucard is portrayed as this creepy ass mf monster that legit gave me chills. 3- Mickey vs Yoda (10/10): This fight was spectacular. The analysis were fine and the cutaway gags were…something, which holds this episode a bit. But the fight, it has barely nothing wrong. It’s really good and the climax is the best of the season. It has the best incineration death of the season. And it was funny with good interactions with the characters and both Yoda and Mikey were portrayed well. The only problem in the fight was the hot dog bit, but it’s just a nitpick here. 2- Goku Black vs Reverse Flash (10/10): This is my favorite episode of the season (no wonder, Goku Black is one of my fav fictional characters ever), but it’s not the objectively best of the season. Everything is perfect, the setup is in character, the progression is well handled, it’s funny with all of the deaths, the "It was me Barry" meme was well implemented in the animation and the track and the death were hands down the best of the season imo. Eobard’s analysis is really good and fun, if only Goku Black had the same treatment. After the karen joke though, I enjoyed the rest of it. I like this episode so much that I listen to Reverse Rosé everyday and watch the fight at least 1 time per day. 1- Saitama vs Popeye (10/10): Everything is perfect here. The analysis are amazing, the fight is amazing and everything comes together. Just, wow. I can’t really explain it, but both you and Nemesis explained it well. I loved that they used their 3 primary form of animations for the fight to reflect the years of Death Battle. This is probably my favorite season of Death Battle (I’ll see).

Honestly, Season 8 was probably my favorite season so far. That's a personal thing so feel free to disagree. Here's my personal ranking of the season... also feel free to disagree. 1. Dio vs Alucard: Okay... so outside of a few minor problems. This is a borderline perfect episode. The analysis was perfect, the animation was stunning. The voice acting was superb and the hand drawn stuff was excellent for the most part. Outside of a few poor voice deliveries on Alucard's end I have no complaints at all with this episode, and I did not expect to be my favourite. But it did... so, there you go. 2. Saitama vs Popeye: While an absolutely amazing season finale that I am still deciding whether or not is better than Goku vs Superman... I can't help but feel it falls into the same category as Goro vs Machamp as being focused on one character for the most part and not the other. This really does feel more like Saitama ft. Popeye than Saitama vs Popeye. Aside from that, I love the animation changing, the hand drawn characters somehow look incredible with the 3D backgrounds and that ending with Saitama was excellent. 3. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash: I'm just going to sum up this episode in a few words. Those being: This would have been number one, if it had not been dragged down so much by Goku Black's awful analysis. And I thought Steven's was bad. 4. Yoda vs King Mickey: Miles vs Static was a pretty good Season Premiere, but it is about time we got a Season Premiere as amazing as this one. The voice acting was my favorite of the season in general, the animation barely had any jank outside of a few moments, and they made great work of Mickey's facial expressions despite him having a permanent smile on his face. Could've done with a bit of a better analysis though 5. Heihachi vs Geese: I personally found Geese saying 'Predictable' over and over again to get annoying really quickly, but I did like when Heihachi turned it around. I like the moments where they camera zooms out while they fight, the moment where they stop to take a breather and Geese's death with the only hand drawn stuff in the animation 6. Po vs Iron Fist: This one could have been better in some aspects, but it certainly delivered. They don't at all treat Iron Fist with disrespect and hype up Po, because Po is the 'better' character and no one seemed to give a shit about Iron Fist. They treat them both with equal respect and even have Iron Fist respecting Po, which I was worried they wouldn't. The fight had plenty of funny moments, the spirit world and fight between the dragon's was awesome and I'm really happy the first animated film character got a great episode. 7. Link vs Cloud 2: You were right, this is easily the best remaster they have ever done. A lot of Link's arsenal was used in a creative way, and despite Cloud shitstomping Fierce Deity Link, I still really liked that they used Deity Link in the first place, and the stunning shot of Cloud in front of the moon at the end. 8. Steven Universe vs Star Butterfly: Outside of Steven's analysis, I think this episode is really underrated. Steven's voice actor doesn't get nearly enough credit, even though I thought they sounded pretty good. And while they didn't go over the top with the creative potential, I don't think it needed to. The army battle was pretty good, they managed to make the scene with Star at the end particular violent looking with what's supposed to be remnants of watermelons, and I personally really love the backing track. 9. Madara vs Aizen: I have many problems with this animation, and they all come from Aizen. But some of these problems are understandable, like Aizen's bottom half being animated weird. But why is he sunburnt? Madara doesn't have these issues. Aside from that, the fight is amazing with some sublime voice acting and a really cool seen between Madara's clones and Aizen's dragon's. Just wish they could've cleaned up the framerate with the dragon's. 10. Batman vs Iron Man: I swear to god if they bring Batman back again and don't at least give him the dignity of not fighting a Marvel character the episode is getting an automatic 0/10 no matter how good the episode is. Kidding aside, this episode had plenty of good moments with Iron Man, and I like a few scenes with Batman, including the end where they fight with no suits and he just dominates Tony. I just wish Batman had more to do and use more armor than he did. 11. Shadow vs Ryuko: I didn't let this episode bother me too much like it did with other people, since I'm not really a Kill La Kill fan. But I can understand butchering the characterization of a character people love so much would piss them off. I've been there before, trust me, it's not a happy place. The sound design and facial expressions for Ryuko leave much to be desired, but it looks really nice, the voice acting is really good, even if Ryuko doesn't much act like Ryuko. And I actually like the choreography in this episode. Analysis could've been better though. 12. Korra vs Storm: Despite having Korra land a majority of the hits and Storm barely fighting back in the animation, did anyone actually think 'Oh Korra might win here'. Though this episode still gets points for being the best Avatar episode by far, and Nem's cameo in the animation. 13. Lex Luthor vs Dr Doom: Ranked above Randy vs Kool-Aid Man simply because a large majority of it is the fight that people came to see, and not based around a joke that no one finds funny. Though it's the most... eh matchup of the season. 14. Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man: This is certainly a matchup I think get's way too much hate, and the reasoning for the hate is so stupid. But I'm not going to get into that, you and Nem already did a good job in covering why painting the Death Battle team off as monsters for this episode just isn't cool. But I can't excuse the Boomstick's Dad shit being a large portion of this episode. When the fight is actually Randy vs Kool Aid Man, it's great though. 15. Akuma vs Shao Kahn: Yes it's janky as all hell but to me, this one was more just boring than awful. I like the analysis. 16. Blake vs Mikasa: While certainly better than Akuma vs Kahn in some areas, I can't get past the shoddy analysis and the framerate of the animation. And I'm not a fan of the death, it worked out for Saitama vs Popeye since it involved a character who could literally pull shit out of thin air. But here... nah it sucks

Akuma vs Shao Kahn is my least favorite episode post-rooster teeth simply because it was the matchup that got me into versus debating beyond death battle. It was my first MU idea. It was actually my most wanted death battle for about 8 years so seeing it butchered like this is just tragic to me. Update: Still hurts my soul over a year later.
Genuinely, this is probably one of my favorite seasons of Death Battle. Had some stellar episodes with Saitama vs Popeye, Yoda vs King Mickey, and Dio vs Alucard, and some refreshing good/great episodes like GB vs RF, Link vs Cloud, Shadow vs Ryuko, and Madara vs Aizen. DB definitely needed this after how burnt I felt after Season 7 so it’s nice that we got a season this great. It had its stumbles here and there but all in all, I love this season. Let’s hope Season 9 is ever better.

MachoMan vs koolaid man is weird to rank, putting it as/against normal episodes, it falls a little flat. But as its own thing, it is phonaminal, i really enjoy it and hope DB takes more risks and expiriments.

I'm not gonna lie I think season 8 seriously pushed the limit of the level of consistant quality I thought this show would have. Having 4 episodes I concered for being 10/10 is just incredible I only really think of like 2 episodes I don't actually like and won't ever want to revisit again. I guess I'll do my list here, I only really got super interested in paying attention more to death battle this season so I guess this should be fun. WArning a lot of positive notes since I'm easy to please lol. 16- shao khan vs akuma, obvious jank and kinda crap animation is obvious, on some positives the analysis actually made me interested in akuma as a character but ehhhh this one just does not impress. I do think some animation looks nice and I love the concept for the finisher with shao khan stopping the raging demon but the execution looks so bad. 15- lex vs doom- wow a matchup of comic book characters I don't care for. The animation is fine, I like the attempt with the villain monologues althrough I think it just drags out the fight but nothing stands out to me past that. Its like the definition of nothing special death battle, 5/10 with some things still dragging it down for me. 14- mikasa vs blake should be lower but its one of those rare times I actually know and like both of the series so its kinda cool. The frame rate doesn't bother me too much so its just kinda meh on blakes part, real crap on mikasa part, somewaht decent middle with a fun fight with some real jank and a disappointing end. But god damn thunder shroud slaps so hard it literally raises the whole fight by a solid point, I listen to the song so much it just has to get a mention 13- heihachi vs geese I do not care for at all. Don't know the characters and the analysis does nothing for me to remotely stand out, the fight is kinda cool in some parts and utterly unremarkable in others. Usually I like characters with cool flashy powers so two old men aren't doing much for me I guess. 12- macho man vs kool-aid man is a fun experiment and I do think making more of the cast present for the comedic episodes can be fun but not at the cost of the quality of the actual fight which was the case here. Also basing it around an unfunny joke also sucks. I feel weird ranking it at all, but overall not a bad idea just needs better execution. 11- steven vs star yeah this is weird, I don't really like either character the fight is mostly good but its not stand out or anything. I don't have much to say I just feel nothing watching it. I do at the very least feel like they used the characters abilities well. 10- king mickey vs yoda- the analysis is one of the best ever... and the actual fight just sort of takes me out. I feel like thats only an issue for me but between mickey always smiling, yoda detailed modeled next to mickeys, yoda doing shadow jutsu and shooting lasers and weird effects in some parts I just can't help but always feel trown off. The music is brilliant and the character lines are fantastic, most of the fighting is actually mostly fine but idk. Just my issues I guess. 9- po vs iron fist- is freaking awesome I feel like if I had a greater connection to the characters I'd enjoy it more and I do think the ending is a bit weak but aside from that the fight is just all around great. This is the point where really great fights happen and I don't have much to say without going into specifics but yeah the multiple locations and different use of their abilites and enviorment really makes this fight as well as just positive vibes. 8- shadow vs ryuko gets my massive bias for edgelords going and succesfuly convinced me to watch kill la kill at some point. I love the usage of their different abilites, the hand drawn parts are great, I laugh at all the funny moments, I love the speed of the fight, the Alumni mode looks incredible. Somewhat weak end but ryuko's scream sells the impact well and I guess the poor characterization isn't going to be an issue for me until I watch kill la kill lol. Oh and chaos unravaled is just as fantastic as thunder shroud for me I listen to it so much. Does suffer from some weak sound design for hits at parts though. 7- iron man vs batman- this fight grew on me so hard its insane. I love the music, the different suits tony gets to bring out, kinda sucks batman only gets hellbat but I can live with it. Their voice actors are doing an amazing job and really sell the dynamic of snarky tony and stoic batman. Despite it not being much of representation of their full universe busting power they manage to get across the sheer power of their abilites incredibly well. Tony winning with his smarts over just having a better suit is also really welcome. 6- storm vs korra... thank fuck this wasn't rey. I'll be honest a ton of this is pure bias but I love korra and I'm just so happy this wasn't "haha korra bad f u". The effects of all the elements and the scale of the fight is amazing, the music is fucking incredible and suits the fight well, both of them get to use their powers in incredible ways and really sell their strength. The fight going into the spirit world is a great choice and cabbadge guy being there is the single way I thought they could actually make that joke funny again. 5- madara vs eizen- ngl I have not watched naruto and bleach and with how complicated their plans are I did not understand much of the characters anyways but man its a fantastic animation, the illusions are a fun gimmick for the fight, I'm not as crazy for the music like others are but its good. I feel like I didn't get as great of a pictures of the characters I would have liked but the quality is just too good for me not to palce it so high. 4- Link vs cloud is so so so so good. The beginning isn't so hot but once we get off of the motorcycles this fight is damn near flawless. The music is insane and works perfectly for the fight, I love the usage of links more obscure abilities, cloud really sort of works here as more serious cool guy reacting to all the crazy shit like link cloning himself or emerging as a mask diety without batting an eye. Link breaking the pots is really funny, all the expressions his copies are just fantstic. And man oh man that finisher with the menu popping up for omnislash v5 and the whole sequence is perfect and lands as one of my favourites of the whole series 3- reverse flash vs goku black. What can you even say. We begin with what I think are near flawless episodes. Aside from somewhat crappy analysis for goku black the entire thing is amazing, their personalities clashing, all the brutal ways the use their powers, the music... its all near perfect. The time travel is such a good gimmick for the fight and it capitalizes on this full well with both characters being so petty on just murdering each other over and over. 2- saitama vs popeye is a fantastic episode, the animation transitions, all the toon and anime physics clashing, the sheer impact of the fight both physical and emotional for saitama. Popeye not being able to read the death punch and later answering with the spinnich punch might just be the hardest I laughed mid death battle. There is only one problem and that is that after the whole speech from saitama at the very least he could have gotten and few more hits and die with a smile... like this it feels like its cut short. But this is just a one thing I dislike but compared to everything else its not even that important 1- dio vs alucard is pretty much perfect in my eyes. Their abilites, blending 2d hand drawn and 3d, voice acting, music, I get excited every time I rewatch it over and over... you can't contend with this. Its going up there into my top 5 of death battles of all time. And more important than it all it did something impossible. Something literally nothing else was able to do ever. It made me think for a second about giving jojo a shot. Because after years of being trashed with jojo reffrence and "watch jojo" I sworn I'll never actually do it and this fight made me hesitate on that for a single second lmao.

Blake vs mikasa was kind of obvious who would win. I didnt even watch AOT or RWBY and I could easily say blake, a superhuman could beat someone a normal person could beat in a fight. Most of the RWBY matchups are copouts
I personaly consider Dio vs Alucard as my fav season 8 episode mainly beacouse when it was anounced I started watching Hellsing Ultimate and i fell in love with it to the Point i consider it being my favorite anime ever. The fact that the episode is amazing On it's own only gives me more reasons to love this episode. Plus takahata 101 is voice acting Alucard and that is based AF for a hellsing abridged fan like me

I think my main problem with Goku Black vs Reverse Flash was that it was pretty one sided that RF would win, I just lose all interest when it’s so obvious who is going to win a Battle. I totally love the passion the editiors and animators had for the Battle, but I never had the feeling of “Wow Goku Black might actually win”, which I think is something that’s better than a fight that 90% of people will already know the winner of, for example I think Akuma vs Shao Khan was a great evenly matched fight for BOTH characters, although the animation was dogshit like you said and the ending was just dumb and made no sense whatsoever. Like I said, the passion and the fight itself was great, but the fact that Goku Black pretty much had NO chance in winning kinda ruined it a little for me, I understand Death Battle is only there for how good the fights are, but going into a fight immediately knowing the winner is kinda not as fun as being mixed on who you actually think will win, but that’s just my opinion 🤷♀️🤗💜
Here I took pole be happy at the end of the fight is being yeah I won the fight and not worrying about the guy because he figured that they both can enter and leave the spirit realm pretty much at will so that the guy he bought will be back after he's rested and recovered
I keep forgetting how boring Akuma vs Shao Kahn is. Its probably in my least favorite episodes of all time. Considering how AMAZING this fight could have been. I wanted Akuma to win but I find it so disgusting Akuma dies like a bitch. Akuma would fight till every limb and organ was teared out. How the hell do you make two of the most brutal fictional fighting game characters boring?! They honestly deserve a prize for fucking it up that bad! Since everything was in their favor and they didn't just fumble the ball, they took the ball and handed it to the other team and let them get the point.

Honestly I think season 8 was the shot of the arm death battle needed. The matchups were refreshing, most of the battles I think are either good to some of my favorites of the season and the analysis were almost all good. Season 7 lowkey made me feel exhausted of the show but I think this anniversary season really turned me around.
Like death battle is far from perfect but I can’t say that they don’t try new things.
Guess the anniversary pressure kept them to ensure quality for the most part.

No real bad episodes, this was just the weakest. The banter was fine, but it killed the pacing
15: Akuma vs Shao Kahn 6.5/10
It has a really good shot for every janky exchange, I thought Kahns voice acting got better near the end, but in retrospect, it should have been sprites
14 Blake vs Mikasa 6.5/10
The frame rate is kinda bad, but the writing sinks this one, probably the 2 worst analysis of the season

The most impressive thing about this season for me, was that my 2nd favorite episode of all tme being Alucard vs Dio, which I had never heard of hellsing, and knew dio existed but knew nothing about him, and this is only behind my number one fight I've wanted for years being homelander vs omni man which are both characters I love

16. Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man is a really experimental episode that sadly didn't work for me at all. With these types of episodes you're either gonna love it or hate it and even though I don't outright hate, I definitely fall more in line with the negative opinions. The Boomstick's Dad stuff was lame as hell and I'd honestly have preferred for it to not be in the episode at all if we meant we could've gotten a full length Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man fight. As a result of that entire subplot that didn't even do anything for me, the analysis felt really barebones and the fight wasn't any better. It's visually really great and the stop-motion is phenomenal and gives me a lot of hope for a LEGO episode to happen, but aside from that it just felt really underwhelming and the analysis segment in the middle of the animation was awful. Overall this episode suffered from trying way too hard to be weird and I didn't really care for it overall. 4/10.
15. Akuma vs Shao Kahn is a really mixed episode. The analysis was great and some genuinely funny jokes instead of the typical boring slapstick of a lot of other episodes. The fight meanwhile was just bad overall. The first half was alright with some decent combos and not-so janky animation for the most part, but as soon Akuma goes Oni and we get that stupid shot of him weakly hitting Kahn the fight is just terrible all-throughout. The animation is so janky that it gives Batgirl vs Spider-Gwen a run for its money and the death absolutely sucks. Overall this episode is completely carried by the analysis and some decents combos towards the start. 5/10.
14. Blake vs Mikasa feels a lot like a modern Cartoon Fight Club episode in the sense that the animation was really good, but the analysis is just nothing for me. I couldn't care less about this matchup or either character, and the analysis definitely reinforced that for me. It was just boring and the jokes are among the worst in the whole show. The fight meanwhile was actually pretty great in my opinion. The framerate didn't really distract that much and I thought the choreography and animation was way more dynamic and fluid than Akuma vs Shao Kahn. The track was also really good and enhanced the fight a lot for me as well. The bad writing definitely carried over from the analysis because it really seemed like Liam was having an off-week when he wrote this script and the ending as a whole was really bad. The death is hilarious and Blake being super fucking happy about losing her arm is one of the dumbest moments in the series. So yeah, it's a great fight ruined by the terrible writing, particularly in the analysis. If this was me 2 years ago then I probably would've given it an 8, but the analysis of a Death Battle is a super important part of an episode despite what I used to think and because of it, this episode is just okay overall. 6/10.
13. Kora vs Storm is good, but its probably the episode I have the least to say about because of its average quality overall. It's still good, but it doesn't really stand out that much compared to the rest of the season. The analysis was enjoyable, Storm's more than Kora's for me, and the fight was decent. It didn't do anything super crazy but it still had solid action, fluid animation, and great effects. The death was kinda goofy, but Nemesis' cameo is absolutely top tier. So yeah, its easily the best Avatar episode since its the only good one at all, but it's probably the most OKAY episode of the season overall for me. 7/10.
12. Lex Luthor vs Doctor Doom is honestly really underrated. I have no idea why I thought it was a masterpiece back in the day, but I still have a soft-spot for this episode. The analysis wasn't funny at all, but it still did a great job at covering the characters and it had some superb editing. The fight however starts really rough. The opening gun-fight is boring, the blade to stick fight is decent but kinda slow, and the 2D molecular prison scene drags on for way too long and is easily my least favorite part of the fight. However, when Doom breaks out and does the foot-dive spam the fight goes uphill a lot in my opinion. The foot-dive combo itself is aggressively badass and has an amazing feeling of speed and impact. Apparently this scene was originally supposed to be just one foot dive that Lex would've caught and then gone into the scene where he slams him into the ground, but I'm glad that the animators went the extra mile and made it a memorable scene. The rest of the fight is decent overall and doesn't feel nearly as slow. The Injustice 2 supermove was really cool and the death was fantastic. Overall I think I was definitely a victim of hype from what the crew was saying on the cast at first, but in 2022 I think that this episode holds up pretty decently. 7/10.
11. Shadow vs Ryuko is pretty good, but its also no where even close to as good as I remembered it being. I remember having this episode at like a 9.5 or a 10 at first, but looking back I'm not too sure why. I don't know, I guess I was just on copium the whole time because of how they were hyping this season up. As for the episode itself, the analysis is pretty good aside from Wiz being a pedobear, and the fight is really solid. The animation is visually amazing and the action is really fluid and well-animated. My biggest problem with this fight that holds it back from greatness though is the sound design. A lot of the hits feel like they have no impact due to the really poor sound design that most last S7 and early S8 episodes had for some reason, and it just kinda took away from the fight for me. I still really like the fight overall and sayonara bit at the end was really neat too. I don't know how much copium I was on when I said that the ending rivaled goddamn Ironman vs Lex Luthor and Snake vs Sam in my old comment, but I still thought it was a really nice moment to give Shadow some justice after Shadow vs Mewtwo. The actual death is mid as hell though. Overall this episode didn't hold up super well, but I still really enjoyed it. 7/10.
10. Steven Universe vs Star Butterfly is also a really good episode. The analysis was decent but I kinda zoned out for it, and the fight was really fun. The custom sprites are immaculate compared to the last cartoon fight that used custom sprites and the character moments and action were really fun. The hand-to-hand fight was really janky and doesn't go even close to as hard as the storyboards, but the rest of the fight was really solid. The Pink Steven transformation though was amazing along with the line delivery, and that segment of the fight overall was really great aside from the mid incineration death. Overall this episode held up really well and easily blew away the shitty CFC episode. 7/10.
9. Heihachi vs Geese is a pretty great episode. The analysis was really enjoyable aside from the stupid Elon Musk bit that honestly rivals Super Saiyan Karen with how unfunny it is, and the fight is really solid. It isn't anything super intense, but it's still a really great martial arts fight with a ton of personality. The action is really fun and fast paced and it honestly goes pretty hard towards the end with the amazing fight on top of the volcano. The predictable line was pretty funny and Heihachi turning it against Geese was a really cool moment. The death was also really great and had some amazing hand-drawn elements, followed by an awesome shot of Heihachi punching the screen. The track is also incredible and easily up there for me despite the steep competition this season. Overall this episode is simple and the fight is pretty short, but it's really effective and I think they really hit it out of the park with this one. 8/10
8. Batman vs Ironman is honestly a super underrated episode. Is it a 10/10 like I previously said it was, hell no! Is it perfect, absolute not! But do I still love it, hell yeah! This episode is an absolute blast for me. The analysis for both was fantastic and even though it set some high expectations for the fight that weren't lived up to in every way, it was still a great analysis that I enjoyed a lot. The animation is also really solid. Visually it looks stunning and the custom sprites for the suits are god-tier. The action is a lot more simple than I would've liked, but it's still fun as hell with some amazing moments like the Hellbat taking on the entire House Party Protocol, the bust this line, the stunning shot of the laser in space, and Batman hitting Ironman with the Watchtower which is so stupid and goofy but I love it. The ending is also really great where Bruce and Tony face-off with no suits and Tony kills Bruce with the nano armor. Overall this episode definitely had a ton of lost potential, but it's still a great time and a super fun episode overall.
7. Link vs Cloud 2 is fantastic. The analysis was definitely not a high point for me however. Cloud's was decent aside from some weird pacing, but Link's was really boring and honestly one of my least favorite analyses in the season for me. The fight meanwhile is where the episode truly shines. Even though the scene of Cloud falling wasn't funny and dragged on for way too long, the rest of the animation was top-tier and really set a standard for the Blender fights on this channel that's unfortunately been pretty mixed as more episodes have come out. The animation is super fluid and visually looks amazing, especially towards the end with that shot of Cloud in front of the moon. That shot looks like it came straight from an actual videogame cutscene. The sword-fighting is really great and definitely shows the Blender team's strength in melee weapon combat and the animation uses a ton of powers, giving it a massive one-up to Mario vs Sonic 2 in that regard. The fight between the four Links and Cloud is amazing and so is the Fierce Deity Transformation. The death is also great with some super solid sound design. Overall this episode is easily the best of the rematch/remake episodes and it was a great way to end the first half of season 8. 9/10.
6. Yoda vs King Mickey is a little overrated, but still an absolutely incredible premiere. The analysis is really good and it uses LEGO Star Wars footage which is based as hell, definitely makes up for the Marshall cutaway. The fight meanwhile is absolutely fantastic. The action is super-fluid and well choreographed and the character interactions are great and show off the personalities of both really well without any forced memes and overused stereotypes like what Rewind Rumble did with Mickey Mouse. The ending of the fight though is absolutely the highlight for me. The music goes absolutely hard and makes it one of the best climaxes to any episode we've ever gotten. The killing blow is a bit weak, but with how amazing the buildup was and how charming the aftermath was, I don't even care. Overall this episode was an amazing way to start the season and a great showcase that the Nathan vs Lara/Batman vs Black Panther days are over for now. 9/10.
5. Po vs Iron Fist is one of the best sprite episodes of all time. The analysis is great, especially Po's. It brought back so many childhood memories for me and it's easily one of my favorite analyses in the season. The fight is a ton of fun and I absolutely love it. Aside from the ending, the writing for Po is absolutely on-point and his voice acting is some of the best in the series. The character interactions between the two really made this fight stand out, especially in the finger hold scene which was quite possibly my favorite scene in the episode. The action itself is fluid, fast paced and has some really solid sound design unlike some of the previous sprite battles in the show at that point. The bamboo staff is super well-choreographed and not only leads into my favorite scene of the episode, but also the amazing climax in the spirit realm with some of the best hand-drawn art in the whole series. The kill itself was really bad and the aftermath seemed super out of character, but overall this episode was a really refreshing matchup that went absolutely hard. 9/10
4. Madara vs Aizen is honestly pretty underappreciated in my opinion. I fucking loved this episode and rewatching it, it's so much better than I remembered it being. The analysis was excellent and it got me interested in both characters with probably my favorite cutaway gag in the season along with Boomstick wanting to get lubed up of all things. The analysis was also one of the longer ones which I appreciated. The fight is also top-tier and even though there's some slight jank towards the start, it didn't bother me nearly as much as some people and I still really enjoyed the start of the fight overall. After the sneak peek it definitely gets even better and as it goes on the fight just goes absolutely hard. I loved Po vs Iron Fist for the character interactions, but this episode absolutely excels with its crazy, over-the-top action and I loved it. The fight used the characters' powers really well, the hand drawn elements are some of the best in the series and the custom sprites and continue showing off far the sprite team has come since season 8. Overall this episode surprised me and I think its by far one of the best sprites battles we've ever gotten. 10/10!
3. Dio vs Alucard is a borderline perfect episode. The analysis was fantastic and similar to Madara vs Aizen, it felt like it went a lot more in-depth compared to other analyses which I really appreciated. The fight meanwhile is an absolute masterpiece. The animation is stunning, the voice acting is incredible, the action is on-point, the writing is fantastic, everything is just perfect in this animation. Both characters get some of the best lines in the entire series and there's some really great moments like the two having a sword fight with the arms of the Big Ben. The ending also incredible with Dio's voice actor going absolutely hard and an amazing death to close off the absolutely top tier fight. Overall this episode is yet another showcase of how the sprite team has just been on their a-game and the total domination in quality of the 3D fights is now over. 10/10!
2. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash is the single greatest sprite episode in the series. Although the first three minutes of Goku Black's analysis are garbage, I don't even care because the rest of his analysis is good and Reverse Flash's analysis is absolutely fantastic. The fight meanwhile goes as hard as humanly possible in pretty much every way. The set-up is really great and shows off the assholerly of both characters flawlessly. Then Eobard lands his first hit on Black and it sends him flying through buildings in a super raw moment of power that doesn't even come close to what Goku Black does to him immediately after by sending him crashing through the Earth, out the other end and straight the moon, and then all the way back. The fight has a really great dynamic showing both characters' power and speed and has some of the best characterization in the series. Then the they both start traveling through time and the fight just goes absolutely hard. The fight between Eobard and all the clones is just so crazy and over-the-top along with the entire sequence of the two time traveling and killing each other over and over. Then we get the climax which somehow goes even harder. This death is hands down the greatest death in any sprite fight and the 2nd best in the entire series, only rivaled by Hulk vs Doomsday for the number one spot. Overall this episode just goes absolutely hard and it is one of the greatest things that Death Battle has ever made. As much as I love Po vs Iron Fist and Yoda vs King Mickey, the action in both of those episodes isn't anything too crazy and over-the-top, but this episode not only has the amazing character interactions of those two, but also arguably the most insane action of any episode to date. 10/10!
1. Saitama vs Popeye is my new favorite Death Battle episode of all time. It took 5 years, but Hulk vs Doomsday was finally topped. This episode is just absolutely flawless. The analysis is one of my favorites in the entire show and is one of the many examples of how Death Battle actually gets me to care about the analysis unlike Rewind Rumble which is basically just an animation show at this point. The actual animation itself is god-tier. The hand-drawn art style looks amazing, especially with those 3D backgrounds. The fighting itself is amazing and animated super well with some really solid sound design unlike the last finale. One of my favorite things about this episode is how the fighters constantly change the animation style as the fight goes on. Even though the sprite scene was really short, the transition from hand-drawn to sprites was a great moment and the transition back gives us the absolutely stunning scene of Saitama lifting a whole chunk of the Earth and ramming Popeye straight through it. Then we get to the 3D scene and even though a lot of people didn't like this bit because of the Popeye model, I thought the Popeye model was funny and it didn't distract me nearly as much as most people. The action itself is phenomenal, it's fast paced, intense, has infinitely better planet destruction than Hulk vs Broly and has a hilarious moment with Popeye's spinach punch. The track also goes absolutely hard, Balderdash is probably my favorite track in the whole series with how intense and emotional it is towards the end, adding to this episode's absolutely flawless climax. The scene of Saitama finally realizing that he's gotten a good fight is an absolute highlight of the entire series and quite possibly the most emotional moment in any episode of all time. The aftermath is also really great and funny as well. This episode is just the absolute greatest way to end any season of Death Battle, fuck Galactus vs Unicron, this is it right here! 11/10!!!
I said a similar comment on Nem's S8 retrospective but since I feel him and Biff's stuff go hand in hand in my opinion, I'm gonna go over my personal ranks again for this. From best to worst.
Dio vs Alucard (10/10. What more needs to be said. One of the greatest sprite fights in DB history, if not the greatest. It's just perfect. With a really good analysis too and one of the most convincing verses arguments they've ever given. This ep was a good day to be a massive Jojo fan.)
Goku Black vs Reverse Flash (10/10. Another one of the greatest sprite fights of DB history with another great analysis.... On RF's, not GB. But its literally miniscule imo, the whole rest of the episode more than makes up for it.)
Saitama vs Popeye (10/10. What more need I say. Fantastic handdrawn, fantastic characterization, this is one of the best finales in the show. Up there with All Might Guy and Gokuman)
Link vs Cloud '21 (10/10. I don't care about the Cloud analysis or the fact that Link lost or is possibly wrong. As a Zelda fan, it made me so so fucking happy with how right they got Link and the Zelda references in this fight. And for the knowledge I do have of Cloud, they nailed him as well. Accompanied with one of my favorite tracks in the series. Amazing fight.)
Heihachi vs Geese (9/10. Ill try to mostly stop with the long thoughts from here on because the rankings speak for themselves. But really good episode, could have been a surprise 10/10 if it was just a tiny bit better in some areas. Plus Kings of Iron fucking slaps.)
Po vs Iron Fist (8/10. Much as I love KFP and Po, I actually don't feel that strongly over this ep. But I can't deny it's really good.)
Yoda vs Mickey (8/10. Another ep I don't feel too strongly about but can't deny its great area.)
Steven vs Star (7/10. This ep just makes me feel fuzzy and nice. I mean, this is coming from an MLP fanboy and someone who really digs cutesy and fun yet dark-ish presentation in cartoons, like the track of this ep kinda mimics. Im just a cartoon enthusiast in general. And while I don't like Steven Universe and fell off of Star VS halfway through, I still enjoyed this battle a lot. Were it not for the bad Steven analysis or the Mewberty talk, could have been an 8.)
Korra vs Storm (7/10. Could be prone to a possible 8 with how surprisingly good this episode is. And that's it, that's all I got.)
Madara vs Aizen (7/10. One of the rare DBs where the result actually kinda dropped it for me, sadly. And I've never watched Bleach or Naruto, but with all I've heard of Aizen, I just can't see this battle not going in his favor. But that's really one of the only things I dislike over the ep, besides some few animation error things.)
Batman vs Iron Man (6/10. I don't hate thus ep. 6 is 'above average' to me. But Batman coming back yet again, and the fight being kinda underwhelming and the other small errors in it drops it a bit. But its still fine.)
Shadow vs Ryuko (6/10. Could be prone to a 5 if you convinced me. Which kinda sucks but I like the episode well enough, I suppose.)
Macho Man vs Randy Savage (5/10. No feelings at all about this one, it's a very nice honorable love letter to Randy and I like the Wiz and Boomstick banter in the fight, but the dad B plot really brought it down.)
Blake vs Mikasa (4/10. 4 is just 'below average' to me. Which means I can still find a single handful of things I like in it. I really like how Mikasa feels like the protagonist, the stratagy, a few really good looking shots. But the boring analyses, the frame rate and other such bring it down. But I'm happy for people who do love it.)
Lex vs Doom (4/10. A nice nap. But seriously, this one is so boring to me but it's still got a few things I like, I guess. Whatever, Im starting to get burnt out, short reviewing them all was a mistake.)
Akuma vs Shao Kahn (2/10. It's got very few things I like. I don't mean to shit on the SFM team, I really don't. But they need to stop taking hand to hand fights. That's it.)
Phew, thats it. And as for my thoughts on the season as a whole, I loved it. I'll need to rewatch S2 to compare but this season could be in the running to be my favorite season and one where I think DB has finally found their footing again. The only episode that I think is bad is Akuva vs Shao. Thats it. Everything else is below average and beyond. And it recaptured and also made me realize how much I love verses stuff. I said this in my comment on Nem's vid, but this season made me feel like I was rediscovering it all over again like I did in middle school. And not for the verses debating mind you, but for the animation potential, the potential care and passion characters I love could get, the writing, all of it.
And I think half of that rediscovery of love for verses is half thanks to you and Nem, Biff. Being an aspiring writer, and someone who really appreciates and grew up on animation and cartoons, Ive learned so much watching you and Nem and this season in general. On writing and character analysis. And I still have a lot to learn, only being 20. But I just wanted to say, if you, Biff, or anyone has read this far, thank you. Thank you and Death Battle for helping me rediscover my love for verses and helping me further my hopes of becoming a better writer. You guys are now two of my favorite small time YTers and I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's to Season 8, and hopefully just as many highs in Season 9.

Without a doubt, this is my new favorite season of the show. It was a very pleasant surprised following what is without a doubt my least favorite season, and my top 10 is now absolutely dominated with episodes from season 8. I'm really hoping they can carry this momentum into season 9 and give us some more great stuff. Doesn't necessarily have to reach the insane highs of things like Saitama vs. Popeye, Link vs. Cloud, Dio vs. Alucard, or Goku Black vs. Reverse Flash, but this season singlehandedly reignited my faith in the show's quality, and I'm very optimistic about what's to come.
Well, for now, season 9 has yet to make a bad episode; their worst was Boba Fett vs Predator which was still pretty decent. And then they made episodes like Omni-man vs Homelander, Tanjiro or Spongebob vs Aquaman which were amazing.
Biff... great video as always. This one has to be one of my favorites you have done in awhile. Hearing you talk about how some episodes gave you some of the greatest reactions with your friends reminded me how much this series meant to me and my friends too. And you were one of the reasons why I started doing reactions to the 2nd half of season 8. Shadow vs ryuko is a great episode, it just had some of the toughest competition in a season.
After the bad line my favorite villains have been on I'm so glad that Dio could finally be the one to break the streak of episodes I have a ton of issues with the other episodes, I wish so badly that Ganondorf could have an episode nearly as good since he's my favorite antagonist of all time but sadly not, but Dio oh so makes up for it, I honestly have a hard time choosing between Dio vs Alucard and Saitama vs Popeye, on one hand it's Saitama vs Popeye but on another hand Dio vs Alucard gave me what none of my favorite antagonists on Death Battle gave me so far, it's such a hard choice for me but I love those 2 episodes.
Just gotta throw in about the Yoda and force illusion clones scene, the way Mickey lowers his blade as if in absolute defeat in the face of what he's facing against, someone who just caught his attack and seemingly summoned a dozen clones as lighting and power swirls around him is chilling.
22:25 As stellar as this episode was, it just felt very underwhelming. Partly for the reasons you stated but also as a 150th episode. This episode just didn’t feel like it hit the same climactic feel as the previous two anniversary episodes(Megazord vs Voltron and Mario Vs Sonic, both of which are two of my favorite episodes of all time). To me this episode just didn’t do that for me. That’s probably a me thing but idk.
Goku vs super man 2 was the 50th episode, so that's the other milestone, not megazord vs vultron
so the 3 milestones were all meh except for the concept and potential

Now, before I move on to express a few other things about Season 8, I have a slight correction to make (don't get me wrong, that video of yours is absolutely phenomenal and you should be proud of it). When you mentioned in the Batman vs Ironman segment how Batman fought in the Hellbat like a brute (which I admit, is an argument that has merit) (yes, there were other things in this video where I disagree with you, but I get where you're coming from with them), you literally just showed a clip of Batman unleashing a swarm of bats to counter Ironman's Household Protocol, which on your review of the episode you acknowledged that it was an actually good strategic move on Batman's side. Oops. Probably should have picked literally any other moment with the Hellbat to prove your point.
Also, the reason why Alucard was missing those shots st the start of the fight probably was because, as we see in the exactly next shot, one of the knives Dio threw got Alucard in the eye, and that most likely messed with his aim.

These were 10 great years of Death Battle. Here is to Season 9, and here is to many more great years of fun, inspiration, passion, vs and, last but not least, Death Battle, the show that brought us all together.
I’m so glad that the anniversary season was this good. Really excited to see season 9 in 2 months or so! I wanted to rank this season too, so I did here!
16- Kahn vs Akuma (3/10): Both analysis’ where pretty good, but the fight was asssssss. Janky, eh choreography, shit death, Kahn overall sucked and lack of abilities. I don’t really want to talk about it because it kinda disgusts me. Akuma was cool though.
15- Lex vs Doom (4/10): it’s a boredom. Godlike editing, but the analysis themselves were aight. The fight was boring. Decent choreography and there’s some good moments like the foot dive scene, the reveal of Super Lex with the first 15 seconds after the reveal scene and the preview wasn’t bad. Though it was boring all throughout and the dialogue was not good with them mumbling about how great they are. Death was cool too ig and Apex of Doom is the worst track of the season.
14- Blake vs Mikasa (4/10): The analysis were ok (Mikasa’s cutaway gag was pain), but the fight was decent on my rewatch. I don’t have an issue about the frame rate usually but it’s not great here, but not enough to make me disgust. I loved Mikasa’s comeback with her thought process, the shot of Mikasa cutting Blake’s hand off before the death was amazing. But then the death and aftermath ruined the end of the animation. I liked the choreography quite well, but there was mostly repetitive stuff and some bits were empty. Thunder Shroud is fkn amazing though holy shit.
13- Shadow vs Ryuko (6/10): Analysis was meh, but the fight was fortunately decent enough. I liked Shadow’s character here and even though I didn’t knew a lot about Ryuko, she was off to me. I decently liked the choreography here and I liked the shot of the Scissor blades above the earth and the sayonara line was a good call back to the previous Shadow fights. But the fight has some bad sound design, expressions and a bad death.
12- Batman vs Iron Man (6/10): I liked the analysis, the fight was fine. There was standout moments like the neck crack, the "Bust this" line, the bat shaped holes and the shot of the Soul Hammer. Choreography was cool and same for the VAs. Batman is out of character though and the fight had miss of potential.
11- Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man (7/10): It was decent. The analysis portion was weird to me and the Boomstick dad story sucked, but the fight was great. I liked the animation (especially the stop motion part), the choreography was cool and I liked the death and they handled it well too. Though it’s too short and it’s the episode with the most miss potential of the season. It was just too weird for me, but I appreciate the attempt here. Def underrated and should be rewatched.
10- Korra vs Storm (7/10): Korra’s analysis had a weird pacing, but it’s mildly enjoyable. Storm’s was better obv and good. The fight was pretty good. I liked Korra overall, the fight had a good escalation and the death was pretty good. The fog scene was good, the hand drawn stuff was great and the effects were great! Storm used little of her powers and some moments were janky but I can’t dare to remember.
9- Steven vs Star (7/10): The analysis were decent, though Steven’s was weird and not as good as Star’s. The fight was charming. I liked the setup and the VAs sold their performances. The only problems were the death (Steven grows fkn boo**), the hand to hand fight on the rainbow was weird and the end felt like it was rushed. Though the choreography was great, the transformation scenes were awsome and the horde fight was cool. Also, I really like the setup. I don’t watch both shows and it just felt in character for both of them.
8- Link vs Cloud (8/10): As a Zelda fan, I have some beef because I hate when they say: "Oh, but Link is the same guy through all of his incarnations." Shut up, he’s not the same. Every Link is different and the weapons around the franchise can’t be obtained by one Link. Ik that it’s for giving the character every abilities that they can have access to, but it’s just not it with Link. If they wanted the strongest Link, they should have put a Link to the past or BOTW Link. Outside of that, I liked the episode (even if it was a Link L). Decent analysis for Link (talk about his story pls), Cloud’s was weird and it comes from my friend who’s a FF7 fan. The fight was really good though. They could have used a bit more of Link’s arsenal, but it was good. Good choreography, good usages of their stuff, good transformation, Mipha spoke (I love Mipha so that was a neat touch that they used the line of Mipha reviving Link) and the death was really good. The pot scene was funny and the bike scene was cool. Some moments were janky like Cloud falling from the mountain and Fierce Daity was blowned out wayyyyyy too quick. Link literally becomes god by wearing this mask, but Cloud just whoops his ass. It’s not like he didn’t do that against Sephiroth’s strongest form or anything. But this episode is still great. Final Breath is fantastic.
7- Heihachi vs Geese (8/10): After I watched the Story of Tekken after Kazuya was revealed for Smash, I loved Heihachi’s analysis better on rewatch. Geese was good too. The fight does it all though. It’s really good. There’s some jank, sure. Like it’s slow in some points, but it’s really good regardless. The interactions are funny, the hits are impactful and the death was gruesome. The track is great too. I like the back & fourth at the end and Geese’s combo was amazing.
6- Madara vs Aizen (9/10): The preview’s ass. But the rest is so good holy shit. Madara’s analysis is the best of the season imo. Nothing major is wrong here and the cutaway gag was the best too. Aizen’s analysis was still good, though the cutaway was not great. The fight, after the preview, is amazing. The setup is probably the worst of the season and the start was jank af. After that, it’s all great. Well, there’s some things, like after transforming into his 3rd form, Aizen is missing his wings and the actual death wasn’t the greatest. But the VA, the escalation, the transformations, the fkn meteor and more are all good. Also, Hollow Dreams is fkn godlike, there’s only one track above it for me, but it’s amazing.
5- Po vs Iron Fist (9/10): I liked both analysis, they were great. The fight was so good. They got both characters personalities well, the fighting portions were cool, the One Inch Punch was impactful af, the dragon fight was stellar and the death was really good, if only it really was a good death. Still amazing fight.
4- Dio vs Alucard (10/10): perfect Halloween episode. I enjoyed both analysis equally, but the fight man, it’s great. There’s some stuff that is wrong, but the VA, choreography and everything really is so cool, creative and brutal. The death was so good and the Jojo memes were inserted in creative and good ways. Alucard is portrayed as this creepy ass mf monster that legit gave me chills.
3- Mickey vs Yoda (10/10): This fight was spectacular. The analysis were fine and the cutaway gags were…something, which holds this episode a bit. But the fight, it has barely nothing wrong. It’s really good and the climax is the best of the season. It has the best incineration death of the season. And it was funny with good interactions with the characters and both Yoda and Mikey were portrayed well. The only problem in the fight was the hot dog bit, but it’s just a nitpick here.
2- Goku Black vs Reverse Flash (10/10): This is my favorite episode of the season (no wonder, Goku Black is one of my fav fictional characters ever), but it’s not the objectively best of the season. Everything is perfect, the setup is in character, the progression is well handled, it’s funny with all of the deaths, the "It was me Barry" meme was well implemented in the animation and the track and the death were hands down the best of the season imo. Eobard’s analysis is really good and fun, if only Goku Black had the same treatment. After the karen joke though, I enjoyed the rest of it. I like this episode so much that I listen to Reverse Rosé everyday and watch the fight at least 1 time per day.
1- Saitama vs Popeye (10/10): Everything is perfect here. The analysis are amazing, the fight is amazing and everything comes together. Just, wow. I can’t really explain it, but both you and Nemesis explained it well. I loved that they used their 3 primary form of animations for the fight to reflect the years of Death Battle.
This is probably my favorite season of Death Battle (I’ll see).
I wish the fight of saitama and popeye have been more long after saitama got exited, i wish he would enyoy more more battle after that but it ended in... one punch... GODDAMMIT THEY TRICK ME

Honestly, Season 8 was probably my favorite season so far. That's a personal thing so feel free to disagree. Here's my personal ranking of the season... also feel free to disagree.
1. Dio vs Alucard: Okay... so outside of a few minor problems. This is a borderline perfect episode. The analysis was perfect, the animation was stunning. The voice acting was superb and the hand drawn stuff was excellent for the most part. Outside of a few poor voice deliveries on Alucard's end I have no complaints at all with this episode, and I did not expect to be my favourite. But it did... so, there you go.
2. Saitama vs Popeye: While an absolutely amazing season finale that I am still deciding whether or not is better than Goku vs Superman... I can't help but feel it falls into the same category as Goro vs Machamp as being focused on one character for the most part and not the other. This really does feel more like Saitama ft. Popeye than Saitama vs Popeye. Aside from that, I love the animation changing, the hand drawn characters somehow look incredible with the 3D backgrounds and that ending with Saitama was excellent.
3. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash: I'm just going to sum up this episode in a few words. Those being: This would have been number one, if it had not been dragged down so much by Goku Black's awful analysis. And I thought Steven's was bad.
4. Yoda vs King Mickey: Miles vs Static was a pretty good Season Premiere, but it is about time we got a Season Premiere as amazing as this one. The voice acting was my favorite of the season in general, the animation barely had any jank outside of a few moments, and they made great work of Mickey's facial expressions despite him having a permanent smile on his face. Could've done with a bit of a better analysis though
5. Heihachi vs Geese: I personally found Geese saying 'Predictable' over and over again to get annoying really quickly, but I did like when Heihachi turned it around. I like the moments where they camera zooms out while they fight, the moment where they stop to take a breather and Geese's death with the only hand drawn stuff in the animation
6. Po vs Iron Fist: This one could have been better in some aspects, but it certainly delivered. They don't at all treat Iron Fist with disrespect and hype up Po, because Po is the 'better' character and no one seemed to give a shit about Iron Fist. They treat them both with equal respect and even have Iron Fist respecting Po, which I was worried they wouldn't. The fight had plenty of funny moments, the spirit world and fight between the dragon's was awesome and I'm really happy the first animated film character got a great episode.
7. Link vs Cloud 2: You were right, this is easily the best remaster they have ever done. A lot of Link's arsenal was used in a creative way, and despite Cloud shitstomping Fierce Deity Link, I still really liked that they used Deity Link in the first place, and the stunning shot of Cloud in front of the moon at the end.
8. Steven Universe vs Star Butterfly: Outside of Steven's analysis, I think this episode is really underrated. Steven's voice actor doesn't get nearly enough credit, even though I thought they sounded pretty good. And while they didn't go over the top with the creative potential, I don't think it needed to. The army battle was pretty good, they managed to make the scene with Star at the end particular violent looking with what's supposed to be remnants of watermelons, and I personally really love the backing track.
9. Madara vs Aizen: I have many problems with this animation, and they all come from Aizen. But some of these problems are understandable, like Aizen's bottom half being animated weird. But why is he sunburnt? Madara doesn't have these issues. Aside from that, the fight is amazing with some sublime voice acting and a really cool seen between Madara's clones and Aizen's dragon's. Just wish they could've cleaned up the framerate with the dragon's.
10. Batman vs Iron Man: I swear to god if they bring Batman back again and don't at least give him the dignity of not fighting a Marvel character the episode is getting an automatic 0/10 no matter how good the episode is. Kidding aside, this episode had plenty of good moments with Iron Man, and I like a few scenes with Batman, including the end where they fight with no suits and he just dominates Tony. I just wish Batman had more to do and use more armor than he did.
11. Shadow vs Ryuko: I didn't let this episode bother me too much like it did with other people, since I'm not really a Kill La Kill fan. But I can understand butchering the characterization of a character people love so much would piss them off. I've been there before, trust me, it's not a happy place. The sound design and facial expressions for Ryuko leave much to be desired, but it looks really nice, the voice acting is really good, even if Ryuko doesn't much act like Ryuko. And I actually like the choreography in this episode. Analysis could've been better though.
12. Korra vs Storm: Despite having Korra land a majority of the hits and Storm barely fighting back in the animation, did anyone actually think 'Oh Korra might win here'. Though this episode still gets points for being the best Avatar episode by far, and Nem's cameo in the animation.
13. Lex Luthor vs Dr Doom: Ranked above Randy vs Kool-Aid Man simply because a large majority of it is the fight that people came to see, and not based around a joke that no one finds funny. Though it's the most... eh matchup of the season.
14. Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man: This is certainly a matchup I think get's way too much hate, and the reasoning for the hate is so stupid. But I'm not going to get into that, you and Nem already did a good job in covering why painting the Death Battle team off as monsters for this episode just isn't cool. But I can't excuse the Boomstick's Dad shit being a large portion of this episode. When the fight is actually Randy vs Kool Aid Man, it's great though.
15. Akuma vs Shao Kahn: Yes it's janky as all hell but to me, this one was more just boring than awful. I like the analysis.
16. Blake vs Mikasa: While certainly better than Akuma vs Kahn in some areas, I can't get past the shoddy analysis and the framerate of the animation. And I'm not a fan of the death, it worked out for Saitama vs Popeye since it involved a character who could literally pull shit out of thin air. But here... nah it sucks

Akuma vs Shao Kahn is my least favorite episode post-rooster teeth simply because it was the matchup that got me into versus debating beyond death battle. It was my first MU idea. It was actually my most wanted death battle for about 8 years so seeing it butchered like this is just tragic to me.
Update: Still hurts my soul over a year later.

Genuinely, this is probably one of my favorite seasons of Death Battle. Had some stellar episodes with Saitama vs Popeye, Yoda vs King Mickey, and Dio vs Alucard, and some refreshing good/great episodes like GB vs RF, Link vs Cloud, Shadow vs Ryuko, and Madara vs Aizen. DB definitely needed this after how burnt I felt after Season 7 so it’s nice that we got a season this great. It had its stumbles here and there but all in all, I love this season. Let’s hope Season 9 is ever better.

I'm not gonna lie I think season 8 seriously pushed the limit of the level of consistant quality I thought this show would have. Having 4 episodes I concered for being 10/10 is just incredible I only really think of like 2 episodes I don't actually like and won't ever want to revisit again. I guess I'll do my list here, I only really got super interested in paying attention more to death battle this season so I guess this should be fun. WArning a lot of positive notes since I'm easy to please lol.
16- shao khan vs akuma, obvious jank and kinda crap animation is obvious, on some positives the analysis actually made me interested in akuma as a character but ehhhh this one just does not impress. I do think some animation looks nice and I love the concept for the finisher with shao khan stopping the raging demon but the execution looks so bad.
15- lex vs doom- wow a matchup of comic book characters I don't care for. The animation is fine, I like the attempt with the villain monologues althrough I think it just drags out the fight but nothing stands out to me past that. Its like the definition of nothing special death battle, 5/10 with some things still dragging it down for me.
14- mikasa vs blake should be lower but its one of those rare times I actually know and like both of the series so its kinda cool. The frame rate doesn't bother me too much so its just kinda meh on blakes part, real crap on mikasa part, somewaht decent middle with a fun fight with some real jank and a disappointing end. But god damn thunder shroud slaps so hard it literally raises the whole fight by a solid point, I listen to the song so much it just has to get a mention
13- heihachi vs geese I do not care for at all. Don't know the characters and the analysis does nothing for me to remotely stand out, the fight is kinda cool in some parts and utterly unremarkable in others. Usually I like characters with cool flashy powers so two old men aren't doing much for me I guess.
12- macho man vs kool-aid man is a fun experiment and I do think making more of the cast present for the comedic episodes can be fun but not at the cost of the quality of the actual fight which was the case here. Also basing it around an unfunny joke also sucks. I feel weird ranking it at all, but overall not a bad idea just needs better execution.
11- steven vs star yeah this is weird, I don't really like either character the fight is mostly good but its not stand out or anything. I don't have much to say I just feel nothing watching it. I do at the very least feel like they used the characters abilities well.
10- king mickey vs yoda- the analysis is one of the best ever... and the actual fight just sort of takes me out. I feel like thats only an issue for me but between mickey always smiling, yoda detailed modeled next to mickeys, yoda doing shadow jutsu and shooting lasers and weird effects in some parts I just can't help but always feel trown off. The music is brilliant and the character lines are fantastic, most of the fighting is actually mostly fine but idk. Just my issues I guess.
9- po vs iron fist- is freaking awesome I feel like if I had a greater connection to the characters I'd enjoy it more and I do think the ending is a bit weak but aside from that the fight is just all around great. This is the point where really great fights happen and I don't have much to say without going into specifics but yeah the multiple locations and different use of their abilites and enviorment really makes this fight as well as just positive vibes.
8- shadow vs ryuko gets my massive bias for edgelords going and succesfuly convinced me to watch kill la kill at some point. I love the usage of their different abilites, the hand drawn parts are great, I laugh at all the funny moments, I love the speed of the fight, the Alumni mode looks incredible. Somewhat weak end but ryuko's scream sells the impact well and I guess the poor characterization isn't going to be an issue for me until I watch kill la kill lol. Oh and chaos unravaled is just as fantastic as thunder shroud for me I listen to it so much. Does suffer from some weak sound design for hits at parts though.
7- iron man vs batman- this fight grew on me so hard its insane. I love the music, the different suits tony gets to bring out, kinda sucks batman only gets hellbat but I can live with it. Their voice actors are doing an amazing job and really sell the dynamic of snarky tony and stoic batman. Despite it not being much of representation of their full universe busting power they manage to get across the sheer power of their abilites incredibly well. Tony winning with his smarts over just having a better suit is also really welcome.
6- storm vs korra... thank fuck this wasn't rey. I'll be honest a ton of this is pure bias but I love korra and I'm just so happy this wasn't "haha korra bad f u". The effects of all the elements and the scale of the fight is amazing, the music is fucking incredible and suits the fight well, both of them get to use their powers in incredible ways and really sell their strength. The fight going into the spirit world is a great choice and cabbadge guy being there is the single way I thought they could actually make that joke funny again.
5- madara vs eizen- ngl I have not watched naruto and bleach and with how complicated their plans are I did not understand much of the characters anyways but man its a fantastic animation, the illusions are a fun gimmick for the fight, I'm not as crazy for the music like others are but its good. I feel like I didn't get as great of a pictures of the characters I would have liked but the quality is just too good for me not to palce it so high.
4- Link vs cloud is so so so so good. The beginning isn't so hot but once we get off of the motorcycles this fight is damn near flawless. The music is insane and works perfectly for the fight, I love the usage of links more obscure abilities, cloud really sort of works here as more serious cool guy reacting to all the crazy shit like link cloning himself or emerging as a mask diety without batting an eye. Link breaking the pots is really funny, all the expressions his copies are just fantstic. And man oh man that finisher with the menu popping up for omnislash v5 and the whole sequence is perfect and lands as one of my favourites of the whole series
3- reverse flash vs goku black. What can you even say. We begin with what I think are near flawless episodes. Aside from somewhat crappy analysis for goku black the entire thing is amazing, their personalities clashing, all the brutal ways the use their powers, the music... its all near perfect. The time travel is such a good gimmick for the fight and it capitalizes on this full well with both characters being so petty on just murdering each other over and over.
2- saitama vs popeye is a fantastic episode, the animation transitions, all the toon and anime physics clashing, the sheer impact of the fight both physical and emotional for saitama. Popeye not being able to read the death punch and later answering with the spinnich punch might just be the hardest I laughed mid death battle. There is only one problem and that is that after the whole speech from saitama at the very least he could have gotten and few more hits and die with a smile... like this it feels like its cut short. But this is just a one thing I dislike but compared to everything else its not even that important
1- dio vs alucard is pretty much perfect in my eyes. Their abilites, blending 2d hand drawn and 3d, voice acting, music, I get excited every time I rewatch it over and over... you can't contend with this. Its going up there into my top 5 of death battles of all time. And more important than it all it did something impossible. Something literally nothing else was able to do ever. It made me think for a second about giving jojo a shot. Because after years of being trashed with jojo reffrence and "watch jojo" I sworn I'll never actually do it and this fight made me hesitate on that for a single second lmao.

I personaly consider Dio vs Alucard as my fav season 8 episode mainly beacouse when it was anounced I started watching Hellsing Ultimate and i fell in love with it to the Point i consider it being my favorite anime ever. The fact that the episode is amazing On it's own only gives me more reasons to love this episode. Plus takahata 101 is voice acting Alucard and that is based AF for a hellsing abridged fan like me

I think my main problem with Goku Black vs Reverse Flash was that it was pretty one sided that RF would win, I just lose all interest when it’s so obvious who is going to win a Battle. I totally love the passion the editiors and animators had for the Battle, but I never had the feeling of “Wow Goku Black might actually win”, which I think is something that’s better than a fight that 90% of people will already know the winner of, for example I think Akuma vs Shao Khan was a great evenly matched fight for BOTH characters, although the animation was dogshit like you said and the ending was just dumb and made no sense whatsoever.
Like I said, the passion and the fight itself was great, but the fact that Goku Black pretty much had NO chance in winning kinda ruined it a little for me, I understand Death Battle is only there for how good the fights are, but going into a fight immediately knowing the winner is kinda not as fun as being mixed on who you actually think will win, but that’s just my opinion 🤷♀️🤗💜

I keep forgetting how boring Akuma vs Shao Kahn is. Its probably in my least favorite episodes of all time. Considering how AMAZING this fight could have been. I wanted Akuma to win but I find it so disgusting Akuma dies like a bitch. Akuma would fight till every limb and organ was teared out. How the hell do you make two of the most brutal fictional fighting game characters boring?! They honestly deserve a prize for fucking it up that bad! Since everything was in their favor and they didn't just fumble the ball, they took the ball and handed it to the other team and let them get the point.
