Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet-a country about the size of Nevada that’s home to more than twice the number of plant and animal species as the United States and Canada combined. Yet its wild spaces-rich in gold, timber, and fertile soil for large-scale agriculture-are also among the world’s most threatened. In 2008, when Ecuador became the first country in the world to enshrine a revolutionary concept called the “rights of nature” in its constitution, conservationists gained perhaps their most powerful tool for protecting wild spaces. Today, that tool is being put to the test as advocates race to preserve habitats and the remarkable species they support.

The people of Ecuador are struggling under so many pressures right now, so I'm not surprised that nature often comes last. I commend these people for trying to improve the situation for the people and the environment at the same time.

I'm so impressed with what's happening in equador and that they have the support of its government! Especially when you consider the size of the country and its economic struggles! In my opinion, they are far wiser than the rest of the world when it comes to environmental protection. The western world would laugh at the idea that it has legal rights. Well done Equador. I hope these programs and ideas spread around the world. Without nature, we cannot survive ....

i cant put into words how incredible the work eco minga and reserva are doing. when callie broaddus said that they discover a potential new species on every new expedition. if that doesnt put into context what we are and could potentially continue to lose, then nothing will. i can only hope ecuador continues to enforce and expand its environmental laws, and that every other nation on earth does the same.

What a question! I will still watch this now, but from the outset I have to ask: Have the right? Nature makes the real rules. And I'm not just talking about life. The natural laws of the universe are absolute as far as we are concerned. In this universe we will only ever be able to take the power that the laws of the universe allow for. Where protecting the living world is concerned, the part of the universe able to observe itself, we are part of it. Until we have the technological means to complete divorce our existence from the living biosphere of planet Earth - Asking whether life has the right to be protected is like asking if we have the right to be protected. And even then life has innate value which we have no right to judge. The might maybe, but presently still at our own peril. i.e. A boorish, foolish might. The full realization hasn't set in generally and is resisted by foolishly tenacious illusions of grandeur.

I love your channel so much. I keep tearing up when I see the beautiful animals and plants. It reminds me of when I was a free diver. I used to deep free dive and I paid over $1,000 to get years of diving lessons and earned my license for free diving as well scuba diving. I got to dive with other scientists off of Morale Bay and San Francisco. My favorite diving spot is off of Morale Bay it's hard to get access to the private spots and it was expensive. Usually I joined a group of divers and we shared the bills for the boats and equipment. It's a little less expensive to free dive so I loved being able to choose. Morale Bay has some beautiful exotic fish and coral life, it's a bit hairy at the bottom of the rocky areas and those are my favorite spots to dive. It looks like a fantasy world in an alien water world. I lost my heart to those undertows and surfs. I loved getting into an undertow and riding the waves underneath the tow. It's different than suffering a wave because it's literally a rolling wave that doesn't touch the surface. Dolphins like to ride the undertow for fun and they showed me how to do it. They were amazing creatures but I was very couscous about being around them. They have a bad reputation of being too curious about human beings. It is not safe for both of us to interact too much. I only allowed an hour of physical activity with them and I would slowly get farther away until I got back to my boat. If I could go back and take photos and share them with everyone online I would. The last dive I did was in 2001 February 10th at 1 pm off of Morale Bay from the base of Morale Bay rock. I researched the wildlife that made their home around the rock for an aquarium museum for aquatic life. It was a private research that I got paid for. I miss the ocean as if it is a person. I do believe to be a diver like myself you have to have a unique relationship with the ocean it's literally a feeling of comfort for me to be in the water and diving as deep as possible to bob in the depths between twilight and dawn. The sunbeams look like streams of threads that shoot down in different directions and it shows shadows from the clouds like vails from an ethereal bide that morphs into beautiful forms. The more I visited the area the deeper I fell in love with it. I think it's a common experience for other drivers, it's what brings us back. It's like the ocean devoured my soul and never let go, it loves me because I respect its majesty and power. I will always have half of my soul in the ocean and the other half is always with me. 😊❤ Here's a poem I wrote for my love of the ocean. "My Lovely Blue - The peaceful blue skies reached the bottom of the ocean view, there's where my heart forever lays. I am married to its waves and undertows. The ocean is full of dreams from an ethereal world, majestic and power."

Let's do our part by eliminating animal products.
The loss of wild areas to animal agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of vital wildlife.
Considered the most comprehensive analysis between farming and the environment, without meat and dairy consumption, global farm land use could be reduced by 75%. An area equivalent to the U.S., China, EU, and Australia combined---and still feed the world.

@Xanthate1845 The exploitation of non-human animals is the most ecologically destructive.
Animal agriculture creates more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire world's transportation sector combined.
It is humbling that the elimination of animal products is the most effective, cheapest, healthful, and compassionate way for an ecologically sustainable environment for all.

    Please stop spreading doubt.
There is no such thing as sustainably exploiting fellow animals in agriculture.
Let's not wait for others to align their actions by going vegan.
The greatest loss of vital native biodiversity is animal agriculture.

    • @monicasong427
      @monicasong427 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@tanglemangle3091 In the beginning of the documentation, the 3 industries called out causing the most destruction to the environment was coal, timber, and unsustainable animal agriculture.
Animal agriculture creates more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire world's transportation sector combined. (WHO, 2006)
Veganism was not stated as the only solution. However, the elimination of dead animal products is the most important factor for ecological sustainability.
We seldom realize the cheapest foods are also the most healthful and sustainable for the environment by consuming legumes, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, herbs & spices, and fungi.

Utter sophistry. Does an ant have rights? If so, what about the anteater? The lion that eats the ant eater? Plants? They are also living things. What about the Vegan? Do they have the right to slaughter wheat? Massacre mushrooms? Commit genocide against greens? Only human beings can have rights. It literally requires the ability to understand the premise of rights to possess them.
