Since then there have been no 155th captured, they have all been "KIA" and that brigade has functionally ceased to exist.
On a more individual level the other reason is that "All Wars Will End" one day and you want to be able to go back home and look at yourself in the eye and still be able to call your self human.
Not only Face ID. Night vision, reflective patches, thermal range finders, peeing on a tree, thermally reflective blanket (it will reflect cold sky and will attract attention as an abnormally cold object) - EVERYTHING that has a different visual/thermal signature from the surrounding environment.

Hey, great lessons ! I work as a crisis planner in a city in southern Belgium and there are a lot of those lessons that are transferable to crisis situations. Great to hear you're still fighting !

It IS the literal definition of a hero. 2 - he survived and often it's the most meticolous, observant and disciplined that survive (and that video proves it). 3 - as I understood it (I'm not a frequent watcher), he chose of the best and safest jobs to do there: drone warfare unit.
He is kind of right in that sense. How I interpret it is that you won't know if it is your final moments until you die. Treat every situation as if you are coming out alive.

As a pogue whose worked with infantry, very few of them take any interest in what we do, but the few of them that have seem to have a vested interest in becoming masters of every aspect of combat. They want to know about our jobs because it can help them be better at theirs. I wish more people had the mindset of cross-training, not doctrinally mandated like soldier first, but simply as a survival skill

Plus, the deployment will go by a lot faster!

As a little history nerd i have to clarify something. I dont know how the russians handle their barrier troops nowadays, but you equivalated them to soviet barrier troops in ww2. But back then, even after the famous order 227 ("no step back"), barrier troops used verbal commands and maybe warning shots the vast majority of times. The myth of retreating troops getting gunned down by their own mgs is just that, a myth. Even the soviets were not that wasteful. Order 227 was mainly enforced on commanding officers who ordered an retreat or disobeyed stand your ground/attack orders.
It's really funny how someone who was a part of the war in Ukraine still has same myths in their worldview as anyone else. Other insides of war are great nonetheless.

When I was in the Marines in the early 80’s the minimum expected was two jobs above, threes better. That said I was not in combat. So theoretical. Appreciate it.
Great lessons, ya it’s hard to find a group anymore to get with and keep the training going. I’m in Texas and there are groups but they are hours away from me. It would take almost a day just for driving.
On that last point, cell phone manufacturers should have a 'combat mode' much like we have airplane mode now. It's going to only be in higher demand in the future. Maybe an app that has access to almost all permissions so it can shut off anything that could get you killed: Face ID, IR flashing in general, traceable gps signals and phone pinging, lights or sound from notifications, etc. The NSA might hate it, but that's only a bonus.
@leonardblazevic9440 Ideally not, but it's become inevitable. The fact they haven't confiscated them all shows they believe there is value to be had in them. They can be used for communication, navigation, photographs, notes, and calculators. Not to mention de-stress entertainment during downtime. Even if they tried to take them all, I'm not sure they could.
