    I was a bit worried about the gray, but then let’s face it, this is art. It needs some color, it need not be natural all the time. I love your work. Awesome

      Thanks. I feel the same way about it. I have so many natural colored pieces on my walls already that I really like having a gray one in the mix.

    That was brilliant. Had to watch to the end to see your vision because at first I expected it to remain raw wood however it turned out beautiful.

    Like your work very much you have a great talent and gives me some ideas.
    I chose to only use oil or wax to finish my work. The gray came out very well.
    Like the sanding you did. Good work.

      Thanks Jelena Jaksic :) My hope in posting videos like this is to give others inspiration and help them recognize the beauty in wood. The art is in the wood but I try to do my best to bring it out and put it in a context where others can enjoy it as much as I do.

      Sometimes when I look at old weathered wood I feel like there's an old soul in there. Its interesting that trees represent ancestors in your culture. I feel like they deserve much respect and I'm glad that your culture gives them the respect they deserve :)

    Great project. Very creative. I'm not crazy about the grey stain. My tastes are more towards a lacquer or spar urethane (great for outdoors) to really bring out the grain of the wood.

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks :) Yes, I know a lot of people aren't into the grey stain. I usually prefer to leave the wood all natural or use a flat polyurethane. I tried something a little bit different on this one and even though it wasn't the most popular choice of color I still enjoy having a grey piece in my collection of mostly wood colored pieces. But I think I'll stick with more natural finishes in the future.

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I have to give the wood most of the credit. The wood is the art and I only try to put it in a context where others can appreciate it as much as I do. Yes, I was goofing around with my green screen (for the bit at the end) yesterday and hopefully when I get a more powerful computer I'll be able to use it a lot more. As it is my computer struggles to edit green screen work. I need more RAM and a better graphics card to do the kinds of things I'd really like to do with it.

    • @meanqueensuperscrimper8908
      @meanqueensuperscrimper8908 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the wood is good, but you brought out the best of it, you spotted the potential. Some artists working with wood sand out all the best bits, you leave all the craggy bits in which lets the wood speak for itself. You enhance the real character of the wood.

    • @scottoconnor

      scott oconnor Yes that's so true..i am living in the mountains of Montenegro and have plenty of olive wood around but to be honest although i used to be around dangerous machinery i am very very scared of the chainsaw i don't know I am living alone and possibly thinking of what I'm going to do if I have an emergency with it.Yeah living alone makes you think like this unfortunately.i make some small scale sculptures from wood mostly non commercial using hand tools but the project i am working on currently is based on composites.Thanks again and all the best to you..

      I actually never counted the pieces in the frame until you mentioned it but since there are 12 it could actually work good as a clock. I don't know if I'll ever do it but will certainly consider it esp. if I could find the right clock hands and numbers.

    I gave you a thumbs up on creativity but putting the gray stain on. I feel took away from the wood it self. The shape and style looks great!!

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the thumbs up! I guess one of the reasons I chose gray stain is that most of my pieces are brown colors and I just wanted something a little different. The nice thing about stain is I can always lightly sand it later and tone down the gray or mix up a little light brown and stain over the gray to add some brownish tones to it.

    IMHO mounting on a backlit (color changing?) white plexy might be cool too. Especially in thin cracks of the center piece.

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually this is a good idea. I may consider using plexiglass as a backer for the cracked wood in the future, especially if a lot of the cracks go all the way through the wood.

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I've never tried it but in the future I might. I would rather do that than use a gray stain. It might give it a more natural gray look than stain.

    At 13.13 it reminded me of an ancient paw print found in mud - that was after thinking the middle shape reminded me of some landline, like the Fiji Islands (Viti Levu) yes I googled it haha - maybe you could do a series of islands, or not. Nice work anyway, enjoyed the video :)

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its funny, now that you mention it I can kind of see a paw print too although I didn't really think of that before. I just googled Viti Levu too and if this piece of wood reminds someone of a beautiful island like that then this project was a success :) Now you're making me want to go there and visit.

      Ich mag die graue Farbe sehr, aber ich merke, dass das nicht jeder tut. In zukünftigen Videos denke ich, dass ich hauptsächlich naturfarbene Stücke machen werde. Danke fürs zuschauen.

    Well Sir Scott, Be very careful...... if you stare at this piece.... you may see the Dragon Eye blink and then you can lose your mind waiting for it to do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes it is quick and other times it will take days or weeks or never for a person the second time or never at all for who is not worthy!!!!!!!!! Some see the Dragon Eye blink while another person will not see it blink but both were staring at the Dragon Eye at same time because that is how Dragon Magic works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope all is well in your Kingdom Sir Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you've discovered the secret behind the magic of the dragon eye! Those who are fortunate enough to see it blink.....not just once, but twice will have the blessing (and be under the protection) of the dragon for years to come.....for this is how the dragon reveals it's love for those who are pure of heart :)

    Hello. Everything was ok until you choose that awfull grey paint. In my opinion no paint works on this kind of wood. It ruins all. I would use lacquer would put value much better to the wood. Even burn and grind wood after is better. You might try to see how it go. Regards.

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was actually oil based gray stain but it was thick so it kind of did look like paint. I should have probably diluted it way down to begin with rather than applying it at full strength. Burning it and grinding it would have been a good idea. I'll keep that in mind for future projects. Thanks for your input.
