Some friends had these growing up and loved them Never understood why the Razor scooters became popular when these already existed and were way better in every way
I fully fully agree! I've been telling people this as well! In the 80s I roll these and what was cool about the mag wheels is one day I figured out if you ride on them without the tire, as I had two blown tires, you would have the world's first drifting experience! You could slide for 20 ft while hitting a corner and then soon all of the homies started trying it! But these things were even more awesome with actual tires on them and I could fully see these taking over again so much cooler than razors LOL
Also, I just looked how much these old vintage bmx scooters go for now adays.... OH MY... cheapest is 150+... Boy I hate that I got rid of all my cool stuff!
Had the same. Joined the Marines in 92 and it and my blue 86.5 GT pro performer 'disappeared' from the garage. Little brother claims he didn't steal/sale them. Little brother is fos. Im still upset.
Ultra Sonic works awesome for cleaning carburetors, motorcycle parts, and other stuff… a cleaning solution, heat, and vibration works extremely well to clean stuff
I learned the air trick when my buddy bought a pair of hoffman love handles. The 1 inch bars were hard to get grips on. Local bike mechanic showed us, then sold us a blow gun so we could put grips on at the gas station
I use an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning off glass after cold working before I hit it with fire again so it maintains clarity. Works for freaking everything
Since none of us had an air compressor handy but we ALL had hairspray, we used that on our grips. If not hairspray, Windex... also, what's the use of the gyro without the Potts mod?
Shout out to the early Incycle crew at San Dimas, CA. Lala was the manager and shit was tight. Learned the air trick there because I was always there and they would let me in the back to fix my bike. Now Incycle is all road and gravel they gave up on us.
I saw recently on a bike shops website they do ultra sonic cleaning for drivetrains, so as someone who owns a bike shop I was intrigued and looked up ultra sonic cleaners. its like 150 canadian pesos for the model in this video and like 60 for 1 gal of fluid
Learned air trick as a teenager when I was a bike shop regular from 13-18 years old. Almost 40 now so 20+years. Clean build I agree on the white gyro. Bummer that front brake kills gyro spinability. Looking forward to see the solution in the future
The ” air trick” oh wow. I learned that at Axler’s bicycle corner, Agawam Ma. Dave axler (owner) and Christian Ellsworth (mechanic) would install grips with air for free for us. Sell us” bomber” number plates And stickers. P.s. I have a Yo! Scooter. It waa blue also. I stripped the paint. I think it has a gyro?!?
I've got a Mongoose 16" Scorchin. Made for the Asian and Australian Market. Picked mine up, complete and original, but pretty run down, for $120 lol. Just have to decide on colors for it. Got some Chromo bars, decent stem, 990 brakes and locking levers, and an Odyssey gyro. Also gonna try and convert the mag wheels to ceramic bearings, for more speed per kick. Even have the original kick stand lol.
I think these old-school scooters I grew up with and 80s I always wanted one I had a friend that had one he broke the front window and gave me his don't know how to do is buy a front wheel done I had me that sky blue with a white tires mongoose it's crazy that those will probably be the biggest thing next to vintage BMX bikes yeah dude I'm looking forward to this
1) Phu is it Possible to “Metal Shop,” Current Razor Scooter to Use “Skyway Scooter Mags? 2) Can Welder Make own Aluminum or Cromely Heat Treated tubes. Scooter to use “Scooter Skyway Mags?” 3) SCOOTER MAX WEIGHT 220 LB? How can you make Scooter for Heavier Rider? 4) Will Skater Kids Laugh at Old Gen X bust out 80’s Scooter? Maybe Go Weekdays or Early Morning? 5) Can You Make Electric Scooter into BMX Freestyle or Park Ride? 6) Opinion on a “Fat Boy BMX, “ Revolution to use at Trick Park? Are they only “Hi Tin ,” or is there Aluminum frames? (should Just get 20 Inch with 2.4 Tires?) I’m Short Asian 5’4 250lb?
I born in 80 so I was around for these. Never liked scooters, not then and not now but Phu is entertainment so I'm here. A friend of mine back then, his dad worked for Pepsi and for whatever dumb reason Pepsi had these stupid scoots. They were yellow and ugly af
I leave bikes scoiter etc...clean up good...touch up paint all colors close...craft store..hobby lobby etc..i turned alot of crap into gold just takes time...n wud have painted gyro white n white or color tires
Those were the worst. The bearings always sucked, took way too much effort to push those wheels, and the frames were too heavy. You give that to a kid now and he’s like where’s the throttle?
Ummm, why have the gyro if its not able to be used? The front cable will hit the frame. You need a Pots mod bolt in the stem to run the cable down through the forks.
Some friends had these growing up and loved them
Never understood why the Razor scooters became popular when these already existed and were way better in every way
I've been pondering on these relics lately.
The universe will show you things.
No coincidences.

Shout out Ethan for the help yesterday!!!
I had two of these back in the early 90s. Things took so much pounding! Love it. Sweet episode dudes.
Also, I just looked how much these old vintage bmx scooters go for now adays.... OH MY... cheapest is 150+... Boy I hate that I got rid of all my cool stuff!
Just found 86 savage scooter all chrome with green grips and steam and white mags and acs rotter $25 at thrift store 🔥
1yr ago I learned the air trick for installing grips from YOU PHU! 🙏 Thank you!
I have a purple General from 86 or 87. I'm the one and only original owner since I was 12
Had the same. Joined the Marines in 92 and it and my blue 86.5 GT pro performer 'disappeared' from the garage. Little brother claims he didn't steal/sale them. Little brother is fos. Im still upset.
1:48 ultrasonic cleaners are good for cleaning your chain muc off make one called the Muc off Ultrasonic wash tank 👍🚲💨
Ultra Sonic works awesome for cleaning carburetors, motorcycle parts, and other stuff… a cleaning solution, heat, and vibration works extremely well to clean stuff
I love watching your videos, your vibe is awesome don't sweat the haters! The true ones know what's up
I’m glad you did this scooter! I’m currently working on one and I’m hoping to get that exact one from a buddy of mine! Love the video Phu!!
Nice wrenching. I picked up a dyno scooter similar in color. Love the 80s scooters takes me back to younger years. Now almost 50
I learned the air trick when my buddy bought a pair of hoffman love handles. The 1 inch bars were hard to get grips on. Local bike mechanic showed us, then sold us a blow gun so we could put grips on at the gas station
My sister and I had a blue and pink set as kids loved these
I love old school BMX scooters! I have two pink Yos and one black chrome Yo Deluxe, plus a General. I saw the thrift store price tag: 12.99!
I had an all white 87 GT ZOOT SCOOT. I traded some black skyways with metal hubs for it.
Yeah maybe . I always envied my friend's Scootex ! (Scooter with a BMX theme !) Back, then, I probably did not have the skills to beg for one .
The gyro is so the bars can spin. How can it spin with the front brake line basically straight piped?
Exactly right .with the dirty food sink. 7.29sec . dirty fucker
It can't, that's why he asked about a long hollow wedge bolt. Originally called the Potts mod.
I use an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning off glass after cold working before I hit it with fire again so it maintains clarity. Works for freaking everything
Forgot to slap nickels inside the ends of those AME grips to prevemt the bars poking through
My man! Two wheels and the old school feels 🍻
I never knew those were a thing, that’s awesome as hell
Since none of us had an air compressor handy but we ALL had hairspray, we used that on our grips. If not hairspray, Windex... also, what's the use of the gyro without the Potts mod?
Any ideas where I can get a mag wheel for my Street Jammer?
Nice Triumph Thruxton in the background.
Shout out to the early Incycle crew at San Dimas, CA. Lala was the manager and shit was tight. Learned the air trick there because I was always there and they would let me in the back to fix my bike. Now Incycle is all road and gravel they gave up on us.
That haircut was your first mistake Phu!
I saw recently on a bike shops website they do ultra sonic cleaning for drivetrains, so as someone who owns a bike shop I was intrigued and looked up ultra sonic cleaners. its like 150 canadian pesos for the model in this video and like 60 for 1 gal of fluid
Them Schwinn yos were dope
This was really cool!❤ never seen one of these 😮
I had a curb surfer that got stolen that thing was a lot of fun
Had that same scoot.
Mine was black chrome. Had a large spoke front wheel. Smaller mag wheel. Why. Dunno. Worked well. Schwin I believe.
My brother used to work at a bike shop. They used air or aqua-net hair spray. 😊
Learned air trick as a teenager when I was a bike shop regular from 13-18 years old. Almost 40 now so 20+years. Clean build I agree on the white gyro. Bummer that front brake kills gyro spinability. Looking forward to see the solution in the future
I have always wanted a sonic cleaner for cleaning carbs
The front cable goes threw the stem but on the forks it has to loop around and pull on the brakes backwards
Old school gooseneck has a Solid Bolt in the center, preventing that solution.
@@johnnypoo3166 so put 1 in
What you think of the Batavus city stepper ?
I've got the exact same scooter that my parents bought me in 87 also got a couple curb cruiser scooters
Where did you source that gyro? Was it a reproduction piece?
Website is down I’m trying to purchase the jet fuel bars and forks
I had that same scooter when I was a kid.
Love the og paint! Cool scooter!
I would have went white tires it still looks kool.

Its nice but why put front brakes then you cant spin the gyro

Plese do a episodes on a teal 1986 87 mongoose decade for the old school cats
Memories! Internet babies slept on this 80's-90's trend. Had to be there to appreciate the beating these things can take.
I was going to be sponsored by dyno/gt in 1999, it fizzled out and I got a real job…
Is it better get a complete bmx or make a custom bmx of ur own
Depends
1) Phu is it Possible to “Metal Shop,” Current Razor Scooter to Use “Skyway Scooter Mags?
2) Can Welder Make own Aluminum or Cromely Heat Treated tubes. Scooter to use “Scooter Skyway Mags?”
3) SCOOTER MAX WEIGHT 220 LB? How can you make Scooter for Heavier Rider?

Whos watching shawn ryan show 7:15?
Hair spray for the grips
I miss my Yo!
Been using isopropyl alcohol since 1990.
so these were the original internal routing
I leave bikes scoiter etc...clean up good...touch up paint all colors close...craft store..hobby lobby etc..i turned alot of crap into gold just takes time...n wud have painted gyro white n white or color tires
This is what a scooter should look like in 2023..
He’s not wrong. A wheel is a circular object on an axle🤔
What's the point of gyro if the front cable doesn't have a Potts mod?
I would have slammed that stem and bought a taller pair of the reissue gt bars.
I like to slam quill stems to keep the headset tight. I dont know if it really works but it def looks better.
The front lable makes the back kabel a wast of time
Had a few..but only a few like them or will pay big bucks...
lots of snobby mtb riders use ultrasonic cleaners to clean their chains cus it works amazingly. im hating but i want one too lmao
Hard
🌵
It defeats the purpose of the gyro because that front cable.
Any one in to guns knows what a sonic cleaner is. Oh your in california sorry
Those were the worst. The bearings always sucked, took way too much effort to push those wheels, and the frames were too heavy. You give that to a kid now and he’s like where’s the throttle?
Why kids today are pussies.
Safest easiest way to learn how to ride a bike .
are you guys filipino?
"Mags" is short for MAGNESIUM. those are PLASTIC.
I always put a nickel in the grip end and use hairspray to install the grip.
Nope. These scooters weren't even liked or loved back when they were new back in the day.
Nope
Front brake cable won’t allow bars to spin.
Ummm, why have the gyro if its not able to be used? The front cable will hit the frame. You need a Pots mod bolt in the stem to run the cable down through the forks.
