I feel like ATL and LA both have the same issue of being so good on paper that they live in this weird simultaneous head space of feeling both intense pressure to succeed but also an inherent entitlement to success. They feel like they should and will win, but not in a confident way, in a desperate way where they feel like they just deserve success based on who they are and then they get too tight and worried about playing the game. Also it's just sports dude, the best team doesn't always win and if they did it would be pointless to even play the games to begin with.

But that's why you play the postseason! It's rare that the team with the best record wins.
For real though, the Braves won the division in mid-September and decided the last two weeks of the season didn't matter. In my opinion, this is what killed them - they went almost three weeks without playing hard and got complacent. The Phillies battled through the last month to keep the top wild card seed. Game 2 doesn’t exist in my eyes, they scored 0, 2, and 1. Wasted two good starts by Strider. Snitker has like two choke jobs (LA & STL), three non competitive beatdowns (1 vs LA and 2 vs PHL), and 1 WS. Our 88 win WS squad had heart and an edge that this year’s talented squad lacks.

Yes, totally agree. Post season performances, especially in a short series, takes nothing away from the 162 games over the entire season. As a Braves fan, we really enjoyed a great 2023 season. To answer some of these questions as a Braves fan:
    1. The Phillies aren’t some scrub bottom feeder, that is a loaded roster built for the last 5 years to compete for championships which they have yet to win in that time frame.
    2. Yes it sucks, I hate it, but we move on and keep playing baseball next year. Its all we can do. I guess we are just the sons of summer, we fill up the ballpark and play our best ball when its ungodly hot and humid.

I agree with all of this.... this isn't heartbreak.....heartbreak was being a Braves fàn in the 80s.....heartbreak was the highs of going to the series for the first time in forever in '91 & '92 and coming up short.....baseball is all about rhythm, and for the past few weeks, the Braves offense was slowing as the Phillies started getting hot.... I think our big offense kinda disguised a less than stellar pitching staff, and when the bats went quiet, it got exposed. But, we have the league MVP and a historic season to be proud of, that's a long way away from heartbreak, we'll get 'em next year...like my dear old Dad told me, "ya win some, you lose some, some get rained out."

I don't like the fact that Valdez is a batting machine right now and JV is a coin flip.... I don't like the fact that Baker is still relying on Montero instead of Stanek...
I am very very concerned for this playoffs against Texas... If we managed to go to the WS well then I'm gonna be concerned about something else... And btw, I hate to be the guy with the negative attitude, but I think that if we faced the braves in the final this would be 2021 all over again... We didn't have strong starters back then, only urquidy made an excellent work... And Valdez was a batting machine back then... We had García... We don't even have him now... And Christian Javier was a super clutch reliever but we had to use him so much that braves finally got him in probably the two most important game of the final... soooo IF, and this is a big IF we beat Texas... Believe me I wouldn't wanted to face the Braves... Probably in 2022 I was confident enough that we could have beaten the braves probably even swept them in the final... But in 2023? Hall of fame level lineups and pitching that was second to none only to disappear when it mattered most. We broke that in 2021 and followed it up w 2 insane regular season division titles. We thought we broke the curse and took that crown off our head. The Phillies just firmly took that crown and shoved it back on our heads w attitude in a way that only leads to a rage induced fan base. I believe this Atlanta team is too good to not go back to the post season in the coming years, and this type of embarrassment we just endured is the perfect scenario to respond to. Either we strike back next couple seasons or we forever bury our franchise reputation further into the realm of being perpetual chokers. It is now do or die from here on out.

These men gathered one bright day in Philadelphia and decided to prepare for battle, to bring victory to their home, and free the MLB from the grasp of an evil empire known as the Atlanta Braves. These men each signed their name to a binding contract, guaranteeing their allegience to the great Philadelphia organization. These men are brothers. Heroes. These men, these delegates, by position, are:
    Pitchers:
    Aaron Nola
    Craig Kimbrel
    Cristopher Sanchez
    Dylan Covey
    Erich Uelmen
    Gregory Soto
    Jeff Hoffman
    Jose Alvarado
    Matt Straham
    Michael "No-Hit" Lorenzen
    Orion "The Kid" Kerkering
    "Red Power" Ranger Suarez
    Seranthony Dominguez
    Tijuan Walker
    Zack Wheeler
    Catchers:
    Jacob Tyler Realmuto
    Garrett "The Bear Jew" Stubbs
    Infielders:
    Alec Bohm
    Bryce "Staredown" Harper
    Bryson "Utley Jr." Stott
    Edmundo "Edmuuuuuundooooooo" Sosa
    Rhys Hoskins
    Trea Turner
    Outfielders:
    Brandon "Swampthing" Marsh
    Cristian "The Pistol" Pache
    Jake "Caveman" Cave
    Johan "The Rookie" Rojas
Nick "Nicky C" "Mayfair Nick" Castellanos
    Designated Hitter:
    Kyle "Schwarbomb" Schwarber
    Manager:
    Rob "Philly Rob" Thomson
    GM:
    Dave "Da Bomb" Dombrowski
    Owner:
John "The Only Billionaire people actually like" Middleton
In 87 years our youth will look back and think:
Four Score and 7 years ago, our forefathers brought forth on this city, a team like no other, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all Philadelphians are created equal, and fuck the Braves.
I pledge allegience, to the teams, of the great city of Philadelphia, and to the people, for which it stands, one city, under God, in loyalty for it, for the Birds, Phils, and all
    God Bless Philadelphia.
    Go Phightins!!!!

Other than Strider, the Braves pitching was banged up at the end of the season, so giving up all those runs was not a surprise. Frankly, it's disappointing that the video didn't mention that fact - kind of lazy. Speaking of lazy, the lack of hitting, was inexcusable. I guess that age old saying, "Good pitching beats good hitting" still rings true to this very statistically-driven decision making day.

  • @ashtoric

As a Phillies fan I had no doubt in my mind we would win that series. The Braves are not built for the postseason currently like us, yet they were cocky enough to think they were because of regular season accolades. You can blame the Dodgers’ failure on injuries and the loss of players like Urias (although one total hit between Freeman and Betts is pretty pathetic too), but the Braves had the same powerhouse train going from the regular season and couldn’t get it done.
I would also love to say that to anyone thinking all the offdays is the reason why, PLEASE lose the division next year then, be a wild card team having to use 2 of your top starters (sometimes not even, if you had to use them right before the season ended in games 161 or 162), then play game 1 of the DS with your #3 starter while the entire bye-team’s rotation and bullpen is well rested. Completely pathetic. I would love to win the division and have a bye round going into my first series to have the best possible chance of winning with homefield advantage.
Braves fans just gotta admit their superstars are pathetic in the limelight. That 2021 team is drastically different from what they shove out on field now, and ironically enough, the 2021 remnants are the only ones that produced anything substantial, in Albeis, Riley, and d’Arnaud.

The Braves offense carried a mediocre pitching staff through the regular season and they got exposed by a team more built for the playoffs. I say this as a braves fan. At least I have uga to look forward to unlike my friends who go for auburn. 😂

Here’s my theory, Braves need to trade Acuna because he’s the reason they don’t win championships, here’s the stats. Since Acuna got called up, 4 nlds eliminations (18,19,22, and 23) and 1 nlcs elimination (2020) when he was injured that’s when they win their WS, WITHOUT Acuna

It reminds me of 22 previous seasons thrown down the drain. It’s kind of the norm in the playoffs for the Braves. They did manage to win two World Series. That’s why 2021 was so shocking - because we were already accustomed to the opposing team celebrate on our field. At least last two years it was on the road

iTalk, this is nothing new for the Braves. From 1991-2005 they won the division every year and only got 1 world series win. Starting in 2002, they lost in the first round of every postseason appearance until 2020. Overachieving in the regular season and choking in the playoffs is who the Braves are. Those of us who have been fans for long enough know this.

As a Mets fan, it scares me that a team like the Braves can bow out of the playoff like this two years in a row to a Phillies team that finished so far behind the Braves. The NL East division is turning into the AL east. Two years in a row both divisions sent three teams to the playoffs.

Not often do I give out likes on videos or comments where I’m not butt hurt over selective stat picking for content so cheers mate! Love the video!
The Phillies earning their success are truly a perfect one sentence summary of the Phillies the past year and a half. This Braves series hurt because I’ve been a huge fan of this Braves team for awhile. Truly one of the best front office operations I’ve seen in my lifetime. But the entire series felt like excuses, playing scared, overconfidence, and some of the worst of the Braves came out, both Arica and the fans. I don’t mind the banter, it’s good for the game. Stars show up and fans engage over it. But it seemed to take over the entire series but the reality is the Braves didn’t show and it’s just excuses.
I’ve always wanted the Braves to be good. As a Phillies fan I want to play them, lose to them, and beat them at their best. This wasn’t their best.

Braves fan here. Great video overall, and I agree this series was embarrassing and humiliating. Arcia especially didnt help the reputation of Atlanta fans being soft by acting like a child in the dugout, or not just embracing the trash talk and playing the villain by playing harder the next game. Everybody in the lineup save for Riley, D’arnaud and Albies were asleep at bat and a break is no excuse for that, like Strider said. But I don’t think the historic season we had is totally washed away from the loss. You made a lot of great points and the Phillies deserve the praise, but it was still an incredible regular season. It’s hard not to feel like it was all for nothing, but I’m still holding out hope we’ll do a great season in 2024 and hopefully keep it up in the post season.
