In 1993, Rich Little, who voiced the Pink Panther in the original cartoons, was approached to reprise his role as the pink feline in The Pink Panther (TV series). However, Little did not recall voicing the character at all and turned down the offer saying giving the panther a voice would ruin the character. Producer David H. DePatie felt that giving the panther a voice would "compromise the integrity of the character." But once the producers saw Matt Frewer fill in the lines for the panther, it was fantastic and they accepted it.
I always thought jim carey was a matt frewer fan or somthing and based his stuff off him cause they do resemble each other an sound alot alike but it seems like Jim Carey based his whole career off max headroom. I don't understand how Matt frewer isn't bigger than he is.
Matt Frewer was on an obscure and underrated but well acted Star Trek next generation episode as a hapless time traveller. In my opinion that puts him many leagues ahead of Jim Carey anyday!
There was a ton of predictive programming in that show. Authoritarian police that will turn on you if you are not live-streaming. Body parts for sale to extend life. The cashless pen swipe to buy things using credits (bitcoin). and on and on and on. Block chain technology finally is going to give us the ability to politically vote at home using an electronic device. In the show they voted using the TV.
Max Headroom should be the style of the new Shodan in System Shock 3. That would be amazing. You just can do CGI as lifelike and yet artificial like Max. He was the best Artificial Being inside a computer ever imagined.
Max Headroom survived being dated by striking a perfect dated tone from the beginning. Using typewriters to control computers was a hell of a bold choice that keeps you in it, just a little surreal from the onset. It's magnificent.

Dzonemp I do too...unfortunately Matt doesn't really want to be associated with it at all for some reason. He refused to be a part of any of the interviews of the cast for the box set. And when you approach him in person and ask him to sign a Max Headroom picture he refuses (at least he did to me).
I totally agree with how he said that the show was ahead of its time. Especially when he said all the "big brother" government watching you stuff. Which has even more association/tangibility after all the US government stuff the past few years.
That's where it all started on Channel 4, the movie 20 minutes into the Future was made by Crysalis Visual Programming for Channel 4, it was funded by HBO. They wanted a background story to Max Headroom before the show started, so that you weren't completely confused by what you saw.

But now here I am 6 years later and it seems like hardly any time has passed!
It was only 12 episodes?? Why Do I feel like I watched Max alot more then that?? Feels like he was everywhere, for many years. And, Taken is an amazing show.
At the time the series was cancelled, some thought it had apparently "given people ideas". One episode made reference to broadcast signal intrusion as "zipping", and not long after, someone signaljacked two Chicago TV stations.
A brilliant character idea but would not have been as successful without Matt's incredible talents. He knew what he looked like as he performed if that makes any sense to you. Very valuable.
The entire Max Headroom show consisted of only 12 episodes........YET it was decades beyond it's time in accuracy as far as subject matter and story line. It was released on DVD about 6 or 7 years ago and I watch the entire show about once a year. Great show.
Frewer was always a great actor, and highly underappreciated by the masses. This interview is old, but TAKEN was a great series and he shined BRIGHT in it. I want someone to bring frewer back as max headroom and do the show up proper. STEAMPUNK it up people!

Never saw this series - in the UK we only had the Video-DJ style Max headroom show, where he did short comedy skits and introduced music vids. It was hilarious, definitely a ground-breaking style & a huge miss when it vanished from the airwaves. Long may "Max" continue in his acting career!

jim stole his style a lot though both are Canadian and that accent is very special...Jim watched a lot of cartoons his whole life and stole Frewer's style but indeed over acted...respect for Matt! underrated actor I find!
When he auditioned for Max Headroom he just improvised a joke and a bunch of nonsense to Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton. Apparently they were rolling around with laughter and gave him the job straight away. In fact if you watch the first series he did for Channel 4 in 1986, you can hear Jankel and Morton laughing and talking in the background. They were present for all the shots of Max Headroom, even though they didn't write the scripted lines.
@Generik LNC...The funny/ cool thing was...Back in the early/mid 80's, when Max first appeared, MTV wanted everyone to believe that he was a computer generated "being" brought to life via some bigtime Mainframe. This was about the same time the first "Apple PC" first came into existence...Eveyone believed it, so he was the "Etherial first CGI!" I only came to realize he was a real person, sometime in the mid 2000's and thought he was, in fact, Jim Carey!?! What a let down & I didn't do any drugs back then, nor now!! LOL!!
I saw him on the Skytrain in 2014. Great actor. Loved him in Intelligence by Chris Haddock. He also played a small role in Monty Python Meaning of Life

The LONG wait for a dvd-version was finally over! Max was/ is a great serie- maybe not as "high-tech" and graphic as the current computer generated blue screen stories, but great to watch again..... and again...... and again.
I was so upset when they took his character out so fast of the Dawn Of The Dead remake. His talent was so superior to all the other actors in that movie. The only thing I could figure was that the newer writers were actually ignorant of who Matt Frewer was and how much of a huge fan base he had, or that because he is such a widely known and talented actor that maybe his costs were higher so they nixed him first.
I would love to see Max Headroom make an appearance on the CBS show Scorpion. None of the team would know who he is except for Cabe Gallo. He's the only one old enough to remember him.
It's amazing that he ever played Sherlock Holmes (in four Canadian TV movies) as he seems more known for comedy. I know everyone has their favorite Holmes, but he was the first actor I watched as Holmes before even I watched the old Brett and Rathbone interpretations.
I remember actually watching this on TechTV back in 2002. I thought it was weird how Martin called it "a new re-incarnation" Seems like it made Matt Frewer think they were doing some kind of new reboot of the show and not just showing old re-runs.

The "Live from Network 23" documentary which is very comprehensive, except no actor interviews or actual footage, has comments disabled. All I'd like to say is we're finally all caught up with "20 minutes into the Future..." The show's traditionally created graphics to simulate cgi are like Disney's original TRON or the BBC's H2G2 series from the same era. "Barracuda" from the MH production team says in the "Live" docu from 20-years after the series was made that, were it being made at the time, use of a wearable or Blackberry (all but defunct now 20-years after the docu was made) would allow Max and Edison to dialoge and explore his/their "humanity" directly. The advent of 24-hours news a scant 5 year prior, and the subsequent proliferation of Fox, MSNBC, and now the likes of ONN and myriad online "news" outlets has brought the dystopia of Max Headroom to fruition. Watch the episodes on War as entertainment, and TV worship, and Media controlled reality, and ask yourself how it has come to this when we were "warned". I'll tell you, we were all too busy laughing to be as scared as we needed to be. Now, the Reality-TV personality is trying again to assume controll. Don't laugh, but don't freeze in a state of panic either. Act.
This guy has a great voice, and an amazing jaw line.

Act.
